Maggie
'Hinny' is an expression from the Newcastle/Northumberland area of England (near the border) and is broadly equivalent to our 'hen'.... a term of endearment to a girl or woman.

I don't know about Movin though....   although as we often leave the 'g' off our words like runnin, walkin, shootin, fishin etc....  could it be moving?  :D   What's the context and I may be able to come up with a suggestion!

Yes, 'goat' is got - it's how we pronounce 'got'!  Noat for Not etc...   It used to be that when you typed in Lallans, you used apostrophes to denote a missing letter, but this has now been dropped.  For instance we used to write wall as  wa', now it's just wa.

Some expressions in Lallans are specific to the West Coast, some to the East.

The Doric is the Scottish language as spoken around Aberdeen or, as we in the Central Belt call it 'Furry Boots Toon'...   cos when an Aberdonian asks where you come from - it sounds like 'Furry Boots ur you fae'  :)

If you listen to Billy Connolly's videos or CDs, you would get a clear idea of the cadence and rythm of our speech patterns.  The people on the West Coast have more sing-song accents than us on the East, and Westies also say ours is a harsher accent!

I think it is important that we do not let the old words and phrases die out..    My Dad was a highlander, and his family spoke English as their second language.  In fact, my paternal grandfather had quite a job to remember to talk in English! I have very little Gaelic, only the few stock phrases, but I equally believe that our Lallans speech patterns and special phrases should not die out either.
