Dear Wizard of Fowls,
The Gaidhlig Signage in Inverness Petition is open to all to sign, if they so wish. I'm actually from New Zealand and signed enthusiastically.
All petitions from www.petition.com are "internationally signable" that is, open to anyone to sign, as far as i know. I'm not endorsing any other petitions however.
Ethical considerations naturally will apply to every individual, so picking and choosing "worthy" and or personally appropriate causes is essential, if not self-evident.
Tioraidh,
Raff |

Dear Celtic Radio Members,
Forgive me if this has already been posted:
Recently the Scottish Highland Councillors have turned down an opportunity to have Gaidhlig aswell included on signage in Inverness. There is still a chance to turn this around.
To all those concerned for the welfare of Scottish Gaidhlig in the Highlands of Scotland I urge you to sign the DUAL-LANGUAGE SIGNAGE PETITION below:

I think what you have spotted is quite correct, Paris was probably named after a celtic tribe in Gaul, now France. Thankyou for your research.

Slainte mhath Elspeth,
I have Maclennan ancestry on my mother's side from Tyneside, originally from Kintail, Highlands. Tyneside was a common place for Maclennan women to meet up with their fisherman husbands who had left Kintail on fishing trips.

Maideann mhath,
Just to spice up your search about Campbells, The clan Cambell are known for accepting the hospitality of the McDonalds for 2 weeks and then repaying the favour by turning around and slaughtering all McDonalds in sight. There are songs about it. There are campbells in different regions of scotland.

Maidean Mhath........ My clan connections are Marr, Ross, Maclennan and Grant. The Marr's are old friends and allies of the Gordons, often mentioned as a sept, though not really given the dignity they deserve.....
If you look at old maps of Scotland you cant help but notice: Brae of Marr - the name officially recorded for the stomping grounds of the Mar's, Marr's, Erskines and Im sure their good and powerful friends the Gordons too. (Bobbing John Erskine who was from France but married the duchess of Mar, Mar being the premier earldom of scotland dating back to when earls were known as Mormaors). Braemar castle is similarly linked to this region. Now although the Mar or Marr clan motto is Je Pens Plus " I think more", the Usurper John Erskine Earl of Mar didnt didnt carry out his ancient responsibility of bonding powerful clans properly, nor finishing battles properly, being the opportunist foreigner that he likely was and hence as you know the Jacobite Rebellion failed. Scotland in ruins, taken over by the English, mars and marrs were suddenly forgotten, and they either went to your esteemed Gordon Clan for protection or left for the colonies. Erskines have retained their Earldom of Mar, but its worth knowing that although alot of Mar/Marr land was confiscated to weaken dominance of Mars, another branch of the original Mar family actually were granted back much of their lands by Queen Victoria.

Maideann mhath,
Baring in mind we all have about a million ancestors if we go back 25 generations, I think researching genealogy is important to get a picture of your recent ancestors, and the bulk of your ancestors..... the funny thing is that your great-great grandmother could have been Japanese for all you know, yet by the time intermarriage has occured over 5 or so generations, her characteristics will likely be consumed by your recent ancestors..... Instinct is always a useful rule of thumb when dealing with ancestry - it can lead you better than conventional genealogy at times.

Hallo! Im from NZ, and leaving Caucasses and Germanic blood aside although I'd love to think i've got Irish and Welsh and Cornish ancestry in fact they are predominantly Scottish, with some English, at least within my recent ancestors.
Here's a wee question? Does anyone know much about the midlands english and the settlement of staffordshire....my Grandmothers maiden name was Gadd and it goes back to the 15th century but may have been changed from Jones. Any ideas??

Maideann Mhath, I think Seltic pronunciation is fashion and Keltic is more true to the Gaelic - Ceilteach. I heard Keltoi was the original tribe that from Northern Eastern Europe (Finland, Ukraine, Belorussia etc) Therefore the pronunciation might best be Keltic, after those people.

Maideann mhath Celticwoodsman..........
saru wa hane ga nai kedo tobu, Hebi wa ashi ga nai kedo aruku...........
This is a Japanese proverb meaning monkeys have no wings but they fly, snakes have no legs but they walk.
The idea being that all have different strengths and weaknesses, sometimes surprising strengths from unexpected places.

Hallo, Ciamar a tha leibh? 'S mise Raff as an Sealainn nuadh....Feumaidh mi canain de m' clann..... Tha m' clann an clann Rosaich, an clann Ghill' Innein, an clann Grannt agus an clann Marr.
Im from NZ, and as you can see im proud to pay homage to my clan ancestry. I greet all gaedhlig speakers with particular warmth.....despite my own Gaedhlig not yet being so strong.
Pagan for me signifies culture, a bond with nature and people, good things pre-christian and post-christian, muffins and cider, Gaedhlig, clann affiliations, grounded spirituality, warm natural colours, being close to one's soul, personal unfixed religion, modan, rejoicing in and being proud of a full, rich life, that links past present and future. I think Pagan means rejoicing all the good things in life.

Hallo, Ciamar a tha thu? S'mise Raff. Tha mi as an sealainn nuadh.... Im Raff from New Zealand.
Well i would just like to say I love Chopin too. I have his nocturnes collection aswell......by Claudio Arrau.....do you know this performer?? I think he does the best rendition of Chopin. The Mazurkas are also beautiful as are the waltzes and etudes. Arrau also plays Shumann and Grieg beautifully too so i could recommend those definitely.
