Hmmm... I never saw a poem of Rabbie Burns here and I thought that was something to do...

Scots, Wha Hae

Scots, wha hae wi' Wallace bled,
Scots, wham Bruce has aften led,
Welcome to your gory bed,
  Or to victorie.

Now's the day, and now's the hour;
See the front o' battle lour;
See approach proud Edward's power --
  Chains and slaverie!

Wha will be a traitor-knave?
Wha can fill a coward's grave?
Wha sae base as be a slave?
  Let him turn and flee!

Wha for Scotland's King and law
Freedom's sword will strongly draw,
Freeman stand, or freeman fa',
  Let him follow me!

By oppression's woes and pains!
By your sons in servile chains!
We will drain our dearest veins,
  But they shall be free!

Lay the proud usurpers low!
Tyrants fall in every foe!
Liberty's in every blow!
  Let us do, or die!

Robert Burns (1757 - 1827)
perhaps some of you know the sung version by The Corries.

Aon, I really enjoy reading poems and songs by Robert Burns. He is one of my favorite poets.  One of my fav's---

A Red, Red Rose

O my Luve's like a red red rose,
Thats newly sprung In June;
Oh my Luve's like the melody,
Thats sweetly played in tune.

As fair as thou, my bonnie lass,
So deep in luve am I;
And I will luve the still, my dear,
Till a' the sea gang dry.

Till a' the sea gang dry, my dear,
And the rocks melt wi' the sun;
And I will luve the still my dear,
While the sands o' life shall run.

And fare-thee-weel, my only Luve!
And fare-thee-weel, awhile!
And I will come again my Luve,
Tho' twere ten thousand miles!

Hey, AD. Steve McDonald does a version of that poem on his "Stone of Destiny" CD. Has the perfect voice and puts just the right music to it. biggrin.gif

'Scots Wha Hae' had long been a kind of 'unofficial' national anthem for Scotland - very popular with Scots Nats and used as their theme song! But since the late 60s it has been overtaken in popularity by the song written by one of the Corries called 'O, Flower of Scotland'...

We just added a group called Smithfield fair and they perform 'Scots Wha Hae'. Give it a listen and request it. Nice version, I liked it!
