Faceless as ShortBit mention we're all just giving our suggestions. That way we can try and work a method that is acceptable to all involved including yourself. That way we acn all have fun and I realized when posting the first suggestion that you weren't talking hardcore but I also know that some of the folks here might be interested and some might not then of course there are the kiddies (And gals I mean the real kiddies) Those who might look even though their folks may not like it that is why I suggested the password protection while it might not keep all kiddies out it might discourage a good portion of them hence bring the jokes to the right group of people. We just want to make sure the forums a safe place for all involved am sure you can understand that.  :)

I'll not be back.

Where I live the 17 year olds have, believe it or not, heard (and use a lot more than I do)  the words EDITED BY BOARD ADMINISTRATOR.

I'm living in the real Scotland,  and like listening to real Scottish music. I was hoping this forum would have some people who are in the same position, but it seems it's all just Americans who want the shortbread-tin version of Scotland  - which NEVER actually existed!

Better fetch the detergent!

Faceless, I think we all are indeed interested in the "real" Scotland - but you must remember that this site is intended for "general audiences."  I have visited your website and I agree that Scottish Humor can be deliciously wicked ... I too mourn the loss of Dudley Moore.

One thing you must realize about us Americans - we are quite a diverse group. Not all here appreciate the raunchy sort of humor of say Richard Pryor or George Carlin, etc., and THAT IS OKAY.   I appreciate the fact that Paul and Dave work to keep this board an open forum for all to enjoy.

I also respect those who do not want to read Grown Up sorts of jokes. To each his own, I always say.

I agree even here (In America) the kids tend to use language that most should not, heck I'll even admit it I personally have a very nasty tongue when provoke. But not everyone is into this or into adult jokes.

Now as far as the joke I know I have made alternative suggestions to Paul which would possibly allow for jokes and discussions which are more of an adult nature. There is nothing at all unreasonable about making this suggestion. In fact at least here stateside I am sure most adults (Parents) would highly request almost demand it though I know they can't demand it but the folks involved have a right to try and help. That is all I am and have been doing trying to help on both side. Making alternative suggestion so you can have fun with any whom might be interested yet protect those who do not or should not be involved in discussions that are more of an adult nature which even you admitted were not appropriate for youngsters

I didn't mean to cause such a hassle.

I'm not talking about posting hardcore humour... just a few words and pictures that aren't suitable for 9 year olds!

There's nothing wrong with this this is a very fun forum and we want to keep it that way for everyone. If allowing some adult style discussion into the forum we want to be able to do it in such a way as to protect those who even you admit should not be allowed to read it as it isn't intended for them. UInless you do something to protect those youngsters they will get in. Even with protection those who know the computer (And I admit yopungsters now a days are even better them me and Paul in some cases  (cry) )but for those who aren't computer savey we need to protect them. I personally urge you to stay around and have fun. Just let us do what is needed to protect those who need the proper protection.

Wow, I know I have not been keeping up with this discussion, so I thank Scottish for stepping in! The first and foremost goal of this forum is to keep it safe for children, families and people out to have good clean fun on the internet. That is why we have a verification process to validate a members email address. We also have other processes in place in the event of a violation, where we can track the offenders IP address back to their service provider.

It is very possible that young Highland Dancers, musicians and other young interested individuals are reading this forum and we will not tolerate this sort of language for young impressionable ears. If there is a need for an adult password protected sub-forum, we can do that, but there would have to be a number of people interested in that and even then it would not be a ?free for all? ? we just are not willing to lower our values and integrity. As always, I thank Dave for his quick thinking in these matters! I know this might sound a bit old fashioned, but as a business model I think it makes perfect sense to believe in your values.

Faceless, while your views are certainly welcomed on this forum, we can not tolerate a user trying to purposely avoid the bad language filter in place. When you agreed to become a member of this forum you also agreed to the terms of service. We are going to remove the two references from your message, so in the future please abide by the terms of service. Thank you!

I will never understand why people that do not use profanity or do not want to listen to it are considered "out of touch" or not living in the "real" world, or are not "grown up".  Values are values and I stand by mine...unapologetically.  I am not a prude or an old fogey, I do not live in a cave and I am an adult.  Just because kids know and use those words don't mean I have to listen to them or use them.   Anyone has the right to use profanity and I have the right NOT to.  I also have the right to refuse to listen to it.  I am so tired of being put down by some foul mouthed...yes FOUL mouthed ...person because I have morals.

There... I feel better.

Shortbit!

Your back!! I have been thinking how I miss your posts on the forum. Did you get everything straightened away with the ISP? Or did it just start working again? Won't rule out that it was not something with my hosting provider.

Well, not to extend this discussion any longer than it is, but I think generally speaking, most of the clan activities and geneology discussion don't include foul language, so I feel we are well within are rights to exclude that sort of behaviour!

Grant it, I would be telling a lie if I said I do not curse when I hit my thumb with a hammer instead of the nail! Or when I think I just erased 10 years of work on my hard drive!

But seriously, here is a question for you all and one posed by Scottish. Should we leave this post here for people to read or would it be better off deleted?

I cast a vote for deleting this thread! I also apologize if I offended Short Bit or any others with my previous post. I just went back and reread what I wrote, and I really did not mean to hurt anyone's feelings or upset anybody, that was not my intention.

I vote for deleting it also... no reason to keep it around in my opinion.  I had my say, and now I just move on.  There are too many other topics that we can discuss.

As for getting back to the forum...My ISP..Kevin ... called your ISP and then called Sprint...then called your ISP again.  The problem was with your ISP's relay in Dallas but don't quote me... it was all Greek to me.  I am just the web designer..and I take their money for their internet access.

I say leave it in case someone else might want to post something inappropriate.  This way they can read all our post and see how we stand on certain issues.  I find that clean can be just as entertaining and enlightening as the other.  This is just my opinion.

I have to agree with Maggie.  Let thread stand so all know how we all feel.  My 17 year old (akferret) agrees.  Maybe she may be alittle old fasion herself.  She enjoys reading the forum.  Now lets all move on to bigger and better topics!!

I'll toss one thought into this though as I am in (Though don't follow) a lot of Scottish Groups on yahoo. And you would be surprised how many jokes (Both Clean and adult natured) go back and forth in a lot of tjose groups. So it maybe something we will have to deal with like it or not and that is why I suggested the possibility of removing this thread and deciding to allow or not allow adult style jokes on the forum even if it's in a password protected forum to try and protect the kiddies. In fact I am going to do a poll on this please all vote. And I will warn everyone I am going to post one adult style joke as an example only so please do not be offened.

Hello all. This is your system administrator! Well, we were going to delete this forum, but we see a number of you would like to leave it for others to view.

We have decided to officially close this topic, and as a number of you have suggested, move on to better topics!

Thanks for comments!
