Do you have a full description of the entire outfit? No way to help if we don't know what type of outfit he's looking for. You could also check my shopping page on the site a lot of possible options there.

Be warned though buy it state side and mark up is usually a lot from what I have seen and buy it direct from Scotland and end up paying a good size customes tax so be aware of both these when shopping.

complete highland outfits are quite expensive, even in scotland. I've been searching for a sgian dhu for my boyfriend last christmas and I just typed my request into google which came up with a lot of good results.
It depends on what you are searching for.
here are a few sites for online order:
kirk wynd highland house
ecossais - edinburgh
scotland gifts - they also have complete gent's dresses for order

good luck in your search.

Another possibility is Shop Scotland Not sure how much he deals with kilts and outfits and such but found him to be fairly good pricing wise awhile back when I was looking for some Tartan Material to use in a Clan Plaque I did for a close Scottish friend of mine. Ended up using two different Tartan Scarves which did the trick perfectly as the regular material was about $60 a yard at a lot of the places I looked. But try the site above you might get lucky.

Thanks Scottish2 and Aon! I think maybe my husband is just pulling my leg?! He knows how "cheap" I am, and if he asks for an expensive outfit, then perhaps I will let him be! He has been quite adamant up untill now about NOT wearing the kilt! :p

You can also try the highland dancing supply stores. I got a great deal on my kilt almost 4 years ago.. $22/yard -4 yards-double width. it was on special due to xmas holidays. they had a surplus in my tartan (cunningham-royal). then I had a lady (dance mum) make it for me. I think that total cost was under $200.
my best friend is getting married this year and purchased a kilt, long plaid, and a few other accessories which came to over $500 plus he had to pay $91 in customs tax.
i purchased my material through tartan town -they're on the web somewhere *.com i think- normally their prices are around $45/yard.
i know any sort of jacket like the prince charlie is quite expensive no matter where you look. i'm just glad i'm not a male dancer.
good luck...and if you know what he's "looking" for, let us know. we'll go on a manhunt for the best price!

ps- i've seen those tactics before.. don't let them sway you.. get it for him anyways.. xmas maybe? *teehee*
