Solstice

The sun rises switfly, higher through the sky.
The days grow shorter, the nights longer.
We watch and wait for the days to come.
We gather together, a celebration of time.
In a circle we form, around an unlit fire.
We have brought wood from near and far,
oak and fir to light our way,
through the darkest of the night.
We lite our fire and bask in its light,
letting peace and hope fill our bodies, souls and minds.
We last the night, and leave in peace,
each taking with up a piece of hope.

"I will not lie me down this rain a ragin'
I will not lie me down in such a storm
and if this night be unblessed
I shall not take my rest
till I reach another shore."

No name for this one yet.

Day slowly ends,
night coming on.
The winds swirl,
blowing snow around.
The trees sway,
their branches bare.
A cool night,
the temperature low.
A small cabin,
in the woods.
A smoky plume,
drifting through air.
A sweet scent,
fills the air.
Through frosty windows,
light shines out.
The door opens,
welcomes you in.
Peace and joy,
are found within.

Lovely poems Simkus. I love the line "We gather together, a celebration of time."

Your un-named poem takes me to a place I always want to be.

Hmm, you're in Central FL? Did you write that one to escape the heat? smile.gif

Compassion is the sometimes fatal capacity for feeling what it is like inside somebody else's skin. It is the knowledge that there can never really be any peace and joy for me until there is peace and joy finally for you too.
- Frederick Buechner

If society prospers at the expense of the intangibles,
how can it be called progress?

I was born and raised in Phoenix so I have always been around the heat. However, I would often go north to a cooler place and have always loved it. That poem came about because I had a picture in my head that I needed to put down in words.
