QUOTE (Dugadelphia @ 12-Nov-2004, 05:47 PM)
Likewise, I am not so fond of the Civil War era songs...I realize there are multiple artists represented in that phrase, so let's just say I do not care much for the genre.

We'll just have to agree to disagree on that point. I have "Dixie" and "The Battle Hymn of the Republic" on my Favorites list.

It really is great on Celtic Radio that all you have to do is wait a little while, and something will replace the occasional number you don't care for.
I don't dive to turn the sound down for anything really -- I find a little of the Irish Tenors goes a long way for me, but that's a style thing, and not that they aren't good performers. I prefer the Scots stuff anyway in general.

I am not crazy about Heather Dale. I find her song lyrics (which I understand she writes) are too "literary" and overworked sometimes, especially the Arthurian ones, and don't leave enough unsaid; and lovely as her voice is, she doesn't do much with it expressively, so I find some of her extra-long songs getting a bit tedious. I don't mean it as a bash -- there's a lot of thoughtful content there. More as a critique of a few elements that could very well change over time.

I understand why Rise isn't for everybody. I just find them striking and unusual.

I don't like hearing songs that are only bagpipes blaring through my computer. I know that is a chunk of the music here, but I hear a few nice songs and turn the volume up only to hear bagpipes blasting and must turn down the volume. That is my only dislike.

I can't reallly go by artists but by individual songs. The song I detest the most is the "Braveheart" song done in techno style. Hate it!!!

That's great Annabelle! Add me to the list of folks who don't like Aselin, Charlie Zahm or Heather Dale. Other than that I'm fine. And I can't get enough of the bagpipe stuff. Hmm...guess there's no accounting for my taste, is there? lol.gif

I dislike a very very few and my dislike list will never include Charllie or Heather. Isn't it great that we are all different. It keeps the world a more interesting place.

I love this thread! (Despite the fact that you're all wrong!) smile.gif Just kidding.

I actually REALLY like Aselin's voice...and find it totally interesting that there are so many who dislike it! I'm also REALLY warming to Heather Dale's stuff, which would have been on my dislike list a couple months ago. However on to the stuff I don't like!!!

I'm not a big fan of Charlie Zahm. But I absolutely really dislike the Irish Tenors intensely. I find that there are plenty others who can do the songs they do, and much better.

At first I didn't like Charlie Zahm, but he grew on me. I love his version of "Lord of The Dance".

I didn't care one way or the other about Rise either until I won their Posing As Human CD (thanks, Paul!). I dig the folk-pop sound of some of their songs.

I'm with you on that. When I saw that I won a CD, I was totally ecstatic. Wasn't sure how I felt about the band, but knew I would give it a listen. They're not my favorite, but I do like their music now. smile.gif

Well, are we not all different!!

I love Tam Lin, in fact I bought the CD because of it this week. I know some members of the Melbourne Scottish Fiddle Club.

In this version it's the background fiddles that make the tune so good. These includes Chris Duncan, whom I've met a few times, he was tutoring at a celtic music summer school I attended.

I love the bagpipes, in fact all pipes, more the merrier.

I HATE Lord of the Dance, all versions, it blasphemous - Jesus didn't "dance on the cross!!" (and yet it's sung in churches here! - go figure)

One would think it would pose some logistical problems at the very least...::shuts up before she gets herself in trouble::

I like all of the above, but not over and over again. There are artists I cannot get too much of, but others do not like: Heather Dale, Stan Rogers, Mark Saul, Twinflame.

I've forgotten who said the above, but you probably know who you are. I like all of the ones listed above, except Mark Saul and Twinflame.
Twinflame isn't that bad, and I've found that if it comes on and I'm not in a bad mood, usually I sit through it. Of course, to all those out there who like them, I can understand why, it just isn't to my taste.
I don't dislike all of Mark Saul's music, but his mixol....something cd is a little to techno (in my mind) and not something I like that much. Those are the only two that really came to me, and it isn't really a dislike of the artist but of particular songs. On the other hand, I absolutely love Heather Dale and Wolfstone....

I personally love Twinflame! I have all their CDs! I am not crazy about Heather Dale though. I love one song of hers and that is Mordred's Lullaby and I love that song immensely. Other than that, thanks to Highlander Radio who featured her one evening and I got to listen to several of her songs, I am not impressed with her as a whole. I just do not like her voice. It has no emotion in her for me. I do not even like the tone of her voice!

I actually appreciate the fact that CR has featured artists and plays a set of their songs so I can get an idea if I like the group or not.

I am not a fan of the Rankin Family, Rise or Charlie Zahn either.

Funny how we all have different tastes! smile.gif

I think for me a perfect set on Highlander would be my faves,

Twinflame-6 Billion Gods
Gary Stadler & Stephanie-Garden of Dreams
Loreena McKennitt-Mummer's Dance
Steven McDonald-Sons of Somerled
Enya-Anywhere is
Mediaeval Baebes-Undrentide
Kim Robertson-Dance To Your Shadow
Freud-Worlds Of Wonder
Libera-Salva me

So I am not going to get into what I do not like because even the music that does not fit my theme is still so much better then the mainstream music that is out there
today like rap music! So I am thankful for Celtic music & new age music.

Hi CelticRose biggrin.gif Maybe I will see you at a Twinflame concert sometime?
