Hi there - I'm so glad to have found this site. I was looking for good music and found a gathering place instead! I've missed sharing my love of this music with others since moving from Indiana to L.A. ...but I heard there's a Celtic center or something a few streets away...so I'm getting my courage up to crash an event there and see what's up biggrin.gif i'm a luddite when it comes to posting or navigating the net so cut me a bit of slack if i seem slow ... i'll get it eventually. now i just have to find a pub with some lively music and everything will be allright thumbs_up.gif

Howdy. Glad you found the place! My younger son and his wife are your neighbors, sort of. They moved to the Bay Area the first of this year. I know, it's a good long drive from LA to San Francisco, but it's closer than NC. Anyway, sit back, relax and enjoy the music and company. And welcome.

Hello and welcome biggrin.gif I'm sure the others on here will chuckle that I need to ask a silly question, but I'm afraid I do! Why is LA referred to as the Emerald City?

zeryx, uh...that's a good question - not silly at all! I guess I always thought it was because it's sort of like OZ and the land of make believe or something like that. things aren't what they appear to be and there are lot of flying monkeys trying out for next guest role on Law & Order smile.gif

carolina, yes - if you can drive there in less that a day, i consider it a short distance smile.gif my friend jason just started grad school at wake forest, isn't that in north carolina?

thanks for the computer tip Sister, good to know, i'll keep them on speed dial - or the equivalent of that on here

and Lady... small world! where are you from in indiana? i'm from Nashville and Bloomington...lovely part of the country, miss it a lot, although not right now ...hear you guys are having a blizzard?

thanks again for the great welcome everyone! oh yeah, and i'm a girl, but my favorite character since i was a kid has been frodo, just incase anyone was wondering about my avatar. where did everyone get all their cool images?

Dia is Muire dhuit hologramrose! (hello and welcome),

We're glad to meet you and hope you like it here. As you have seen already, we have many nice folks here and people that not only share a common interest in Celtic music, but people who are interested in one another. If you ever have a prayer request or any reason to ask for help, please don't hesitate to make a request. In all the years I've belonged to many forums, I have never seen one that could be so closely described as a family! It's a blessing to have you part of it and I look forward to reading your posts when you have time.

Blessings and health!

Thanks! Yes, I haven't posted anywhere that was so immediately as friendly as this.
(what does your name mean)?
Is that Gaelic?
Now that you mention it, yes, I do have a prayer or good-wishes request. It's for my neighbor, John. He's had to go back to New York for a few months for chemotherapy - he was diagnosed with cancer and he's just 31. He's a fighter - but everyone could use good thoughts sent their way. So thank you again, I really appreciate it!
Hey I just noticed you're on my side on the coast smile.gif

Hello from the Navajo Nation in Northern Arizona! Glad you found this place and glad you are finding it friendly! We are a varied group here at Highlander Radio! I know you will find your time here rewarding!

Welcome aboard and have a great day!

Hello again, HR!

I will be more than happy to keep John in my prayers, and I believe many others will, too! I know so many people who are fighting cancer at the moment and so I'll add his name to my prayer list. As time permits, please let us know how John's doing - also, if you could, please let him know that someone else is keeping him in his prayers - I think one of the best things about prayer is that the person knows that someone is praying for them - that's a good way of showing love! thumbs_up.gif

And the name - yes, it's Irish and the original Muircheartach (Murtogh of Niall) could very well be related, or so my great-great grandmother always told my grand father. My ancestors were Scot-Irish, primarily Muireadhach, to which the original name-bearer belonged.

And lastly, yes, we are on the same coast - I read your initial post and was thinking that we both moved west - you from Indiana and me from Long Island (originally from KCMO). Sunny Sunnyvale is very beautiful - it's somewhere near to where TheCarolinaScotsman's son and daughter-in-law live - this is the "Bay Area", as they say. Nice to have lower heating and A/C costs, even though a three bedroom home will cost you close to $1M. Amazing what real estate can do...

Blessings to ye!

Welcome to our family!
It is so neat to learn where people are from and where and why they move all over the country. I'm in Mew Mexico and have been here all of my life. I can't imagine living anywhere else.

Welcome again and enjoy your time here!

then you must have been to my favorite pub in the world:

http://www.irishlion.com/

I haven't had time the past few years, but i used to go home just to celebrate my birthday with friends there each year. The huge wood bar was brought over on a boat from Ireland in 1860 and it still looks beautiful. One of the few places I've seen yard glasses.
The owner was always a bit drunk - he was also my landlord one year during college...my best friend Matt and i lived in one of his boarding houses. There was a door in the middle of the house that went down to this dirt basement but there were no stairs. He would raid the house periodically to make sure that everyone was keeping the common areas clean (which of course no one did). Our Chinese neighbors, Wei and Won, made rice everynight in this huge wok and would leave it in the sink until the roaches would swarm over it. One Saturday he came over to fix the front door and saw the mess. Matt and I hid as soon as we heard the ruckus start...he took every single pot, pan, dish, cup, fork that was in the kitchen, opened the door to the 'basement' and threw everything in - there was nothing left! Then he sat out in the yard and drank a few beers. We were rolling on the floor laughing for hours...until we realized we had nothing to cook our rice and beans in for dinner that night smile.gif

Hello hologramrose! Fàilte gu Celtic Radio! Welcome to Celtic Radio!

In my humble opinion, you have found one of the best websites ever. The people here are some of the nicest to be found anywhere on the net, and the music is simply out of this world.

So kick off your shoes, grab a mug of your favorite hot (or cold) beverage, turn up the music and have fun! I look forward to getting to know you better through your posts.

If you have any questions or problems, please feel free to ask anyone with the word "Guide" beneath their avatar. That's why we're here!

Again, it is so nice to have you with us. We are like one big family here, and we just love welcoming new members to the fold! I hope that you will enjoy your stay with us, and that you will come back and visit with us often. I feel quite certain that you will grow to love the place as much as I have.

Welcome to the family, my friend!
And welcome home! smile.gif
