Gun Owners of America E-Mail alert
8001 Forbes Place, Suite 102, Springfield, VA 22151
Phone: 703-321-8585

Friday, March 19, 2010

It may be that by the time Monday rolls around, the House of Representatives will have voted on the anti-gun ObamaCare bill.

By now, your Representatives have heard all the reasons why gun owners oppose the bill.

If there are any Representatives who are still wavering, it won't be more facts and figures that will sway them. No additional information will convince them... except for one.

It's the answer to this question: "What does November have in store for my reelection bid?"

Please make one last communication with your Congressman. A lot will be riding on this vote!

ACTION: Please make one last contact to your Representative, urging him to vote NO on ObamaCare. Ask your wife, your relatives, your neighbors, your church -- everyone, short of your dog -- to do the same.

CONTACT INFO:

Phone: toll-free at 877-762-8762; or call the regular number at 202-225-3121.

Enlighten me -- why do gun owners in particular oppose the Obama Health Care bill?

I resent the forum being used to urge members to vote a particular way about issues. This is a political DISCUSSION forum not an opportunity for members to campaign for votes or issues they personally want passed. If they want to advertise then pay for it!! Please don't commandeer the forum to ask members to vote a particular way unless the forum BELONGS to you or you've paid to advertise on it. I don't believe anyone should have the right to exploit forum readership by asking members to vote a specific way on any issue. My grievance for what its worth to anyone.

Come November, you may be assured that I will remember who in congress was a reactionary obstructionist. I wrote to my congressman and told him that when I was urging him to vote in favor of health care reform.

Good grief! There is too much censorship being advocated by some of you.

You get a new member in the forums, and you want to immediately report him and shut him up before he has even said anything - instead of welcome him or hear him out - and now, here you are wanting to tell folks what they can say and can't say in a political forum. Err, I think a lot of politics has something to do with voting - unless you are a NAZI, Communist, or despot loving socialist.

What is this becoming? ... the shutup Celtic Radio forum?... Ye all go too far.

Take a deep liberal smell of your own arse, wake up, and be a little more tolerant and embracing of the diversity around you - even if it personally smells to you.

Your kind-hearted neighbor,

You will notice, Your Crudeness, that clarification was what was requested here. In most cases, that would be taken to mean an invitation to write more, rather than the contrary. cool.gif

If you will read carefully, what Antwn was objecting to was the reproduction of campaign literature sent out by one PAC and biased in one direction. I could reproduce just as much campaign literature from the other side. But what this forum is about is discussing our opinions, not parroting some mass distributed piece of professionally written and biased campaign advertising. Mac does charge for advertising you know. That's part of what supports this site. This was tantamount to stealing advertising space, which might be compared to shoplifting. No one cares if you go in a store and buy something, but try walking out without paying and see how kindly you are thought of then. Express all the opinion you want, just don't try advertising for free.

As for the other matter you mentioned, I made it plain that I was basing my opinion on past experience. But then, I don't expect anyone who defends the KKK to think much of my opinion.

If your not intelligent enough to be able to tell what is advertising and what isn't, then you are far beyond any enlightenment I could give you. Far be it from me to deny you the right to wallow in the muck of your own ignorance.

I remember when I first joined this forum it could probably be best described as "Sacrifrice of the Shrub" in regards to Georgie Bush! I think whomever is in power seems to get da boot! Anyway, though my posts were more conservative and not always met with the warmest responses, I enjoyed the banter!

It's hard not to get fired up sometimes, but I think it's healthy to be reminded that there are other opinions...even though they might be wrong tongue.gif

Thank you Scotsman!

This is what was posted (above), a direct solicitation to vote a specific way on a particular issue, along with contact info! There is more to that than mere opinion, if it were opinion I would not worry about it, since that's what a discussion forum is for, but its not for unpaid advertising or soliciting members to vote a particular way. No one is trying to censor opinion. I hope that's clear. Also, this isn't my forum either. I have no authority here, just making a request. I think the vitriol in response is not justified. Do people really want regular posts asking people to vote on particular issues specifically pro or con? That can be arranged. Maybe we could alert various PACs and political parties to post incessantly on the forum asking for your vote for/against their pet issue. What do you think the forum would degenerate into....I mean more than it already has..... wink.gif I'm sure they'd love the free advertsing! They pay top dollar for it elsewhere, and here they have a market of 26,000 plus members they reach for free!! See what I'm getting at? Can we nip it in the bud now? All I'm askin'.

I see your point, but honestly I think it's more than that. I think Antwn is right that the opinion of an individual member is one thing, but a call to vote or otherwise act, with the contact information for that use included, is quite something else, and might in fact even be taken as an official endorsement on the part of the site and not the member.

It's not like we haven't had many many announcements for tea party events and the like already, and put up with them, even though those are also taking advantage of the site for a a kind of advertising.

Your kind-hearted neighbor,
Englishmix

This is an unmoderated forum, advertised as "enter at your own risk." I figured with my extensive dealings with politicians over well in excess of three decades I could handle it.

The information posted here is all of a political nature and ALL politics promotes one political idea or another. All politics encourages a particular action based on your political persuasion.

Nothing posted here is advertising and is supplied to interested members by e-mail, in this economy, most non paying.

I am only posting my political beliefs as do others. Are there those here who are worried? I have never told anyone what to say to their elected officials, only to call them. GOA and The Patriot Post each have a different reason to oppose the HC bill. It now appears by some polls 80% of Americans oppose it also. I had always assumed some of you supported the HC bill. I know know that at least one did.

Those 80% are why "We Will Remember in Nov."

I just spent the day, before leaving for Nevada, with my grandchildren ages 4 to 14 and I certainly "could" draw some comparisons.

Slàinte,

This is the substantial message of your post:

You most certainly ARE directly instructing people what to say to their representatives here, to the extent you have any power to induce anyone to say anything. You are urging them to tell their representatives to vote "no," and you are specifically endorsing the coercive approach that uses the future vote as a crowbar. If what you mean by this is that you yourself can only advise, not coerce, then yes, you're telling the truth. But by providing contact info you are doing nothing less than any of the ads we hear and see in the media, and that goes beyond expressing political conviction. It's a pity you are not being paid for your efforts, if indeed you are not being paid -- you are a most effective party tool. But maybe the site ought to be paid for carrying your ads just the same.

I don't recall anyone posting specific exhortations to action with contact instructions for protesting against Bush policy -- I may be wrong, and I know there are individuals who may amuse themselves for hours scouring the archives for such. Good hunting -- a lot of murky water has gone under the bridge since then.

If anyone did do that, however, I would find it an equally inappropriate use of site space.

Since when did "paid advertising" become a requirement for advocating for or against a particular issue or candidate? If one can't advocate for their particular policy or cause in this forum, then where?

I would assume that if the "management" of the website felt this, or any other thread, violated the site's TOS or advertising policies they would have said something by now. censored.gif
