Howdy all, If any one is interested, I have 8 open invites for gmail which is Google's swanky email service. 1 GB of diskspace (think about never deleting another message) and an interesting concept of applying labels to your email instead of sorting them into folders. I wasn't sure initially what I was going to think about the labels but it's grown on me. Now I find myself wanting to label my work mail which isn't exactly of feature of outlook/exchange.
So, if you want an invite (the only way to get an account currently) post or PM an email address you'd like your invite sent to. If you're posting your address, you might want to obfuscate your address ([email protected] => bob AT bob.com, [email protected], etc). If you're on hotmail or yahoo and I send you an invite, check your trash/junk/spam folders because they tend to get delivered there.
First come, first served.

There is a reason they go to your junk mail box... because that is what it is. Be ready for mucho spam and targeted emails.

I don't think google is adding extra spam... Doesn't hotmail has publicity as well?
For me google, is much more serious and spam free than msn, so, so gmail will be. Anyway, I hope I can tell it to you by my own experience soon.
I don't use Goggle, Hotmail, Yahoo, AOHELL, or any of those people traps. My main email is through my ISP ( innernet) and I purchased a resellers account real cheap that allows me total control over what comes and goes through my email. it also gives you 3 (count them) 3 web-based email options to use. And I can give out unlimited email address's to boot! Total control over the anti-spam and pop-ups also.
All this corporate, easy to use, supposedly people friendly stuff is gonna come back and bite ya where ya sit. Mark my words.
Goggle is in it for the advertising money, your privacy will suffer.
As for spam and such, I've had no issues with either account (one's for commerce and personal use, one's for a few listserve's I'm on). Had one for three months now the other for a little over a month. Spammers haven't found either address unlike other accounts and I've read good things about their spam catching filters.
I know some of the geeks are up in arms about the possibility of google searching your mail and privacy concerns but it's not like any of the other free providers can do the same. One of Google's rules for their company is "Don't be evil" and so far, they've done a good job of it, at least as I see it. Some of the adwords that come up are rather amusing I think. Pop-ups are a non-issue with google, they use text ads (not flashing, dancing images) which tend to relate to what is on the page. Spam, so far they (Google) haven't done it and until they give me a reason to be concerned, I won't be. As an added bonus, they don't add advertising signatures to your messages like Yahoo! or Hotmail. But if you don't like or agree with the TOS, don't use it.
Personally, I use lots of different accounts for different reasons. I still have my dialup's address because it made a nice transition from my university account. Same name, just a diffferent domain. Broadband provider allows for 5 I think. I have a free account from Novell's myrealbox domain. I used that as a drop box for my students at the community college, they can send their stuff there for me to grade. I have a pair of hotmail accounts that are spam catchers, plain and simple. My Yahoo! account allows me to hit their content (groups and such) and used to be my primary commerce account. I also host my own site so I do run a mail server here (currently mercury but I'll be running postfix soon on the recommendation of my DBA) and could also have unlimited accounts but not having to deal with administration is worth it for me. Plenty of other ones that I use and they all have their purpose and their pro's and con's.

Just read ALL the fine print if you decide to use these NICE services, most allow 3rd party infringment in some shape or form. It may take months to show up but it is there.
