I don't see a thread in here about these guys, but they have become my current favorite too now. Anybody here like them? They are based out of Houston and play the Highland festival circuit and such. Here are a few links to give you more information about them. Oh! And they just came out with a new CD called Rogue Trip! Yay!

i shared the stage with them a couple times back in 95 & 96 at the "bristol ren faire" when they were the "scottish rogues". the first time, my partner and i were due to go on stage, when the area lit up into a blaze of blaring bagpipes, scottish snare and bodhran...... as they came marching down the aisle ..... the bodhran player was shirtless the lasses went wild.... *L*.......

not sure if it is all the same personel now..... i have there first album
Scottish Rogues - 1995 it is out of print now.......

*sigh* it aint easy following a bagpipe band...... biggrin.gif

Hey Dundee! How wonderful! Yeah, those CDs are out of print but they just came out with a brand new one called "Rogue Trip." So if you want to follow them again, here goes:

If you want to hear samples of the new CD, click on the below link! I bought it as I think it is fabulous! Tell me what you think. I heard that "Off Kilter" is good as well as "Made In Texas." The latter is a LIVE album and I am not too fond of LIVE albums, but I may get it eventually. They have quite a following so I would imagine the gals went wild when one came on stage shirtless! laugh.gif wink.gif

The Rogues Rock!!!

I've seen them twice - at the Ohio Scottish Games. They will be there again this year. Alas, I will not!

They are very fun onstage. And the shirtless one had to be Nelson! Whatta character!!

I see from their website that they have some different members now. Notably missing is Lars, one of the founders of the band I believe.

I have the Made in Texas cd in my car player now!

Beerman! I agree in that pipes with rock music is great! I love it!

JP! I didn't know you liked The Rogues. yes, they have new members now. I ordered two of their CDs, Rogue Trip (their new release) and Off Kilter. Was going to get Made in Texas but I think I will get that in DVD instead so I can watch them play. I heard they were going to be in Ohio. Too bad you can't make it to see them. You gotta get their new CD though. It is WONDERFUL!

I've seen them the last two years at Scarborough Faire here in Texas and they were supposed to play at the Texas Scottish Festival this year that I missed because I was too sick to go. *sigh* I have the Made in Texas cd, it's really cool. I noticed some member changes this last time I went to the Faire so I decided to look them up online. It looks like they added a new member since I had seen them and some time after that one of the men (the really big man) died (I think he died protecting some people at a club as a bodyguard from some crazy gunman). It was really sad, he was young and I think he had a young family too. He died a hero to those he saved.

Hey Amy! I wondered about that guy and how he died. I notice on their website it honors him and I have been curious ever since. Thanks so much for explaining. Wow! really sad. I hear they are wonderful live. You are so lucky to have seen them. I hope they get out west to do some live performances. All the bands I like seem to go east for some reason. sad.gif

The fellow died at a club in Columbus, Ohio called the Al Rosa Villa - known for hard rock, punk, etc. I forget the name of the band but the most prominent person to die that night was a guitarist called Dimebag...something. A deranged fan jumped onstage and started shooting. Dimebag and the bodyguard you refer to were killed, plus another patron I believe. A Columbus PD officer came in and shot the gunman. A really wild and bizarre story.

Wow! That is a really wild, bizarre and terribly sad story. sad.gif

I have asked the gal that mans their website to donate The Rogues new CD, "Rogue Trip" to CR here. She said she would be contacting MacFive, so hopefully we will be hearing it on Highlander radio SOON! smile.gif

Yes it was the same club where Dimebag died. He was a really good guitarist.

And yes you have missed out, the Rogues are really good live, much better than the cds I think. It's a feeling you get I guess. The big man played the bodhran, right? Why I can't remember his name I don't know.
I wonder if they will recover from that loss, I know that's worse than someone leaving, much grieving.

Actually the big man that plays the bodhran is Nelson Stewart, and he is very much still alive!!!

Well, I have to add in my two cents...Love THE ROGUES!! I play them when running the vacuum or washing the dishes and my seven year old daughter loves to sing and dance along!

I wish to see them but don't think they be in AZ any time soon...perhaps a road trip is required!!!

Hope they do get their new cd over here to CR what better way to keep loyal fans happy and bring in new fans???

Dundee...how great that you have been able to play with and meet so many interesting musicians....that would be a fun perk of your passion for ren faires....

That is the big man I was speaking of and he is... BIG!!! 6'7 and 375 lbs according to the dallas morning news... that seems about right from what I remember about seeing him and the others live. He most definitely stood out. He did play the bodhran for the band here. He was not one of the core people though, although it seems that has changed often. Seeing the band before and seeing it after... their was a definite difference and it wasn't all to new people, it had more to do with the stage presence. Everything the newspaper said about him there seems about right from what others say and from how I remember him acting at the faire. Which is funny... cause I never even spoke to him, but ya know how you just get a feeling about a person? Anyway, I thought that might clear up the confusion.

I wanted to bring this thread back up to the top as they are one of my most favorite bands and I have been playing a lot of their music lately. I only have two of their CDs, admittedly, but "Rogue Trip" and "Off Kilter' are two fabulous CDs I play over and over and would highly recommend to any looking for new Celtic music! Hope you enjoy!

I'll add my two cents. The Rogues have been coming to the Maryland Ren Fest for the last several years and are a great crowd pleaser. They are especially favored for the Celtic weekend. Have all of their current CD's and will buy any new ones they produce.
