Hi all & welcome to the board Eventide

Tha mi a' smaoineachadh gun d' rinn thu glè mhath cuideachd! biggrin.gif
I think you did very good too!

Ciamar a sibh a charaidean? Tha mi gur ionndrainn agus tha mi ag ionndrainn a' bhòrd cuideachd
How are you friends? I'm missing you and i'm missing the board too

Ach tha mi uabhasach trang an-dràsda gu mi-fhortanach sad.gif

Tha mi 'n dòchas gum bi mi air ais air a' bhòrd a dh' aithghearr
I hope to be back on the board soon

Ach gus an uair sin, tha mi 'n dòchas gu bheil sibh uile slàn fallain
But until that time i hope you're all fit & healthy

Hello eventide! Are you still having problems with saying goodbye and how to say yes and no?

Here are some common ways to say goodbye:

Tioraidh = Cheerio
Slàn leat = Health to you
Beannachd leat - Blessings to you
Chi mi a-rithist thu = See you later

Yes and no is a little more difficult. There is no one word for yes or no. To answer a question, you simply repeat the verb that was used in the question that was asked you for yes, or negate it for no. For example:

An do leugh thu an leabhar? Did you read the book? (Leugh is the verb and is the Gaelic word for "read")

To answer, you would say:

If the answer is yes:
Leugh = Did read

If the answer is no:
Cha do leugh = Did not read

Make sense?

Here is another example?

A bheil thu sgìth? Are you tired? (A bheil is the verb and is the Gaelic for Are/Am/Is)

If the answer is yes, you would say:
Tha = Am

If no:
Chan eil = Am not

Let me know if you need more than this.

Slàn agus beannachd,

Halò! Latha math dhuibh.

Hello -- Good day (to you) -------> all of you! smile.gif

Gabahaibh mo leisgeul.

Excuse me ----> for not replying sooner!

Mòran taing

Many thanks ---->for the advice!

Ma 's e ur toil e

please --------> we must continue!

Co-latha breith sona dhut <--- wish me
beer_mug.gif Happy Birthday

Latha math an-dràsda!

Good day/bye(for now)

***note: my learning source is from a book--for now. The most frustrating thing is NOT having all the words to express what I'm thinking... but I will keep trying and please feel free to inpart any comment, I welcome it! My plan is to visit Scotland in 5 years and while I know it is unecessary to learn this language, I recognize Scotland has a proud heritage, which I admire.

Hallo a charaid!
Hello my friend!

Fàilte air ais!
Welcome back!

Tha mi gu math, tapadh leat!
I am well thanks.

Agus ciamar a tha thu fhéin?
And how are you yourself?

Uill, tha i air a bhith fuar air an oidhche, ach blàth ri solas an latha.
Well, it has been cold at night, but warm during the day light.

Tha, tha mi ag ionnsachadh na Gàidhlig fhathast.
Yes, I am sitll learning the Gaelic.

But the going has been pretty slow. I havne't workd on my lessons for a while, but I have been working on translating the Litir do Luchd-ionnsachadh daily. I am up to letter 117. And since there are 320 or more now, looks like I've got a long way to go! biggrin.gif I need to get back to doing some lessons though, because I'm starting to forget some basic stuff I used to know. The litirs have been pretty good for my vocabulary, though!

Uill, feumaidh mi falbh a-nis!
Well I must go now!

Chi mi a-rithist thu!
See you later!

Halò Wizard...math do fhaicinn a-rithist biggrin.gif

Chan eil adbhar a bhith a' gearan, tapadh leat
No need to complain thanks

Tha mi toilichte gu bheil thu fhathast ag ionnsachadh Gàidhlig
I'm pleased you're still learning Gaelic

Agus tha mi a' dol leat - Tha i gu math doirbh unsure.gif
And i agree with you - it's fairly difficult

Ach bidh sinn flleanta lath'-eigin, tha mi 'n dòchas
but we'll be fluent someday i hope

Tha mi air a bhith a' leughadh na litreach bheag gach seachdain
I've been reading little letter each week

Tha i nas fhurasda na litir do luchd-ionnsachaidh laugh.gif
It's easier than letter for learners

Am bheil duine sam bith eile gan leughadh?
Anybody else read them?

Uill sin e an-dràsda. Beannachd leibh uile.

Tha mi cinnteach gum bi thu fileanta latha air choireigin smile.gif.

I am sure that will thu fluent day some .

Tha e ceart gu bheil na litrichean beaga nas fhasa na litrichean do luchd-ionnseachadh.

It is right that are the letters small easier than letters to learners.

Tha mi gan leugheadh uaireigin - na litrichean do luchd-ionnseachadh.

I am them reading sometimes - the letters to learners.

Ged nach eil mi a' tuigsinn gach fhacail, tha mi a' tuigsinn an ciall den litir gu leir.

Even though I not am understanding each word, am I understanding the meaning of the letter as a whole.

Tha iad gu math innitinneach, nam bheachd-sa, smile.gif

Are they quite interesting, in my opinnion (emphasized).

Tha i fliuch is gaothach an seo cuideachd.

It is wet and windy here too.

Bha ceilidh coisir ann an Uige a-nochd agus bha deagh thide againn.

There was a choir ceilidh in Uig tonight and we had a good time.

Ach nuair a dhraibh sinn air ais gu Port Righ bha droch shide againns wink.gif,

But when we drove back to Portree we had bad weathear ...

Bha sinn ionganntach oirnn nach bu dh' feum sin bata ...

It was a surprise that we didn't need a boat ... wink.gif

Hehe...Uill chan eil mi cho cinnteach a ghraidh, rolleyes.gif

mar eisimpeir mhothaich mi gun rinn mi mearachd anns a' phost agam mu dheireadh
I noticed i made a mistake in my last post

sgriobh mi - a' leughadh na litreach bheag
I wrote...

Ach bu choir dha a bhith - a' leughadh na litreach bhig
But it should've been....

Chan eil mi math air an tuiseal ghinideach idir idir sad.gif
I'm not so good with the genitive

Fhad 's a tha mi nam chuimhne, cheannaich mi leabhar ùr an latha roimhe
While i remember, i bought a new book the other day

'S e an t-ainm a th' air 'The Lazy Way To Learn Gaelic' le George Jones
It's called....

agus chan eil e dona idr
and it's not bad at all

Tha e gu math simplidh ach chòrd e rium
Fairly simple, but i enjoyed it.

co-dhiù, tha an t-àm agam falbh. Beannachd leibh uile. biggrin.gif
anyway bye for now

...Oh agus an ath-uine a tha mi aig na bùthan a Fhaileas choir. Ceannaichidh mi-fhèin bàta dhutsa wink.gif biggrin.gif
