QUOTE (susieq76 @ 21-Mar-2005, 01:32 PM)
Well, I can speak to that all too well, unfortunately. My daughter is the result of a rape. Did I think about abortion? Absolutely. I was traumatized, horrified. But then I saw the first ultrasound. You could really only see a heartbeat, and as detached as I was emotionally from this child at that time, I could see a heart beating. I decided at that point that someone would love her, even if I couldn't, and she deserved that. Heck, I was adopted, so I can speak from experience there as well.

When I saw her again at my 3-month ultrasound, I fell in love. I cried and cried. It has been hard at times. But she has been the biggest blessing I could ever have imagined. I cannot speak for other women who have been in this situation, only tell my story. I also cannot imagine what it would be like to give up a child for adoption, and have the utmost respect for people who choose to do so. I can say, without a doubt, that I am eternally grateful to my mother for deciding to continue with her pregnancy and place me with a family who could give me what she might not have been able to.

As for Shadows' questions - I do not presume to speak for the Almighty, and so cannot answer whether these decisions are God's will or man's will.

Also, for your second question about forcing the unwanted on those who would abuse them. The situation is that normally those who would abuse children will not decide to abort their children if given the opportunity. So, it is a moot point in that they do not take "advantage" of these laws. They would not be described as "unwanted" in that sense. Even though given the opportunity legally to abort their children, these people do not do so.

I'm so sorry you had to go through that experience and my heart goes out to your dearest, but I am also happy that you found love and goodness out of such a terrible circumstance. *hug* I think it's great that you have that mentality about others out there being able to love these children even if the mothers can't. Because I know personally 2 couples who would be the most awesome parents in the world but out of some tragic genetic imperfection, they can't conceive a baby. So I strongly agree with that statement. If someone finds he/she is not capable of handling a child, the shouldn't just give it up blindly because that fetus can become someone great. In the end, that mother may fall in love, such as your touching story tells. =)

Hehe okay, thanks for the clear-up. =) And yes, I know that many Americans and Canadians think that and thus justify abortions...but I'm saying that we should take the safer assumption, that's all. Of course, when it comes to choice, it's hard to argue against victims of rape because I can only imagine how it must be like. So...in the end, you can't really take away that choice...but I just feel like some women take that choice so casually as a way to be free of "burdens".

I got The Chieftans - Live from Dublin. It's the first...well no, I've gotten a Celtic harp CD before....but this is the first Irish band I've bought a CD from so far. They sound really good...I'm hoping to get their CD that has to do with Bells...or something, I can't remember the exact title. It's very christmasy and I'd love to have it during the Christmas season. Yup...anyone else like/have their music?

I can't tell if you're being honest or sarcastic, because if you're being honest I find that's a very cruel thing to say about deformed babies...they don't choose to be that way so why should we "dispose" of them? Also, who says they don't have souls? We can neither prove they do or they don't scientifically, so it is best to go with the safest assumption - that they do.

However it seems you're being sarcastic...but I don't know...can you clear that up?
