| Hello all... I teach English in the United States and part of my studies include the stories of King Arthur. The consort to Merlin is known by many names, one of which is Nymenche which I understand to be the Celtic version. Can any of you help me with the pronunciation of this name. I have not been able to find it anywhere written out phonetically. Thank you for any help you can provide. Janice |

| It's not his Welsh name! Sorry! Myrddin is his Welsh name. Like the town Caerfyrddin. "Merlin's Fort". It doesn't look like Nymenche is Gaelic either as the Gaelic languages avoid the letter Y. Possibly Cornish, but Cornish is very similar to Welsh so I'd be surprised if it were so different from the Welsh. |

| I don't think she was looking for Merlin's name, but Merlin's consort's name. I think Nimue is one of her names. Not sure how this one would be pronunced. As Siarls pointed out, Y isn't common in the various Gaelics (not sure about Manx though - really don't have much knowledge of Manx). |
