"Hey! There he is!" I shouted to the police in the building. "Look! He is messing with the cab we came in."

It looked like the cab driver had fallen asleep, and there was the tuxedo guy, messing around the taxi we had arrived in. The Inspector alerted the other police in the building, and radioed the sergeant who was out waiting in the car. As the police poured out the door, the sergeant arrived blocking off the exit for Mr. Tuxedo. Lucky thing I had glanced out the window when I did.

One of the officers caught the man who had tampered with our taxi, handcuffed him and brought him towards me. Madam, is this the man who was following you?

Yes, he is one of them, but he he isn't the one who took my passport. Can we please go back to the Castle so that I can get my papers and my valuables? I am worried that someone will attempt to break in while I am gone! I could not hide the fear and worry in my voice.

The Police Inspector walked up to me, tipped his hat and said, I am sorry Madam, but I do believe I owe you an apology. I thought you had concocted this wild tale, but it appears there might be some truth in it after all. I apologize for doubting you.

No apologies are needed, I responded, I am having a hard time believing it all myself!

Then the Inspector turned to the men and ordered the suspect to be formally charged, and for them to take him inside to process the prisoner. Then he turned to me and Firth, Let's take a nice little drive back to this Castle of yours and see if I can find any clues that will lead us to your abductors, shall we?

Firth and I sat in the back seat of the Patrol Car, while the Inspector and one of his officers rode in the front seat. As we sat there I felt very self conscious regarding the length of my dress, and I tried to pull it down a bit. Firth I am afraid of that place! I wish I had never even heard of that Castle!

In the realm of faerie-

Iz, thanks for saving me m'dear.... It seems like forever since we have been back to your home....
We need to tie up some lose ends. We need to find Jack and Anne. She is in grave danger..... I can feel it from here.... I sence that she was not under her own control...as is she were an instument to do someone elses bidding. We must focus on this....

Isabeele give Zeb the "mother "or 'wife" look. That you zare going to stay here and rest look.

This has to done Izzy. You know it does. Once this is finished I promise I will come back here with you, and take my rest. Now, what do we need to do first?

A change of clothes would be good, and inventory the events that have passes last evening. We should have held on to the girls passport, but it will be funny when she returns to the states and it's in her postal box. LOL!!! We still have her clothes at the car... which we need to pick up... But I'm sure Connor has done that already......

Seated in the back of the police car I couldn't help but notice how short that dress was that I had bought Ann. Her incredible legs went all the way down to her ankles, and I was having trouble focusing on anything else. It looked to me like the Inspector was re-adjusting his mirror a little excessively as well.

I was not very fond of the idea of returning to this castle, and hoped we could get in and get out of there as quickly as possible. The place gave me a first class case of the creeps. It seemed that Ann realized the seriousness of what had happened last night and she seemed to be concerned as well.

I was sweating again when we pulled up to the castle. The inspector shut off the engine, and we stepped from the car.

I noticed in the side mirrors that two other patrol cars had followed us and were pulling up to the castle as well. One car went to the left of the castle and the other pulled up around the to the right of the castle. Four officers stepped from each vehicle and began immediately to snap photos and dust for fingerprints.

I gasped! Someone had barged right on through the front door of the main entrance, like they owned the place! The police officers commented about no sign of a forced entry and I told them that in the course of the evening I had gone outdoors with my friend, and perhaps I had left the door unlocked? No, wait, I went out through the kitchen door, which mean the front door must have been jimmied some how.

The inspector began directing his men to scour the area carefully, leave no stone unturned. They descended on my front doorstep like a swarm of bees to honey. AS I stepped around them, I screamed!

I can't believe it! How could anyone do that! I cried....

As I stared and pointed they all looked down... there on the floor were big muddy footprints...all the way across my avocado green shag carpet! The intruder had left a trail of prints from one end of the hall to other, then up the steps leading to the bedrooms upstairs... a muddy trail even a bllind man could follow!

My carpet is totally ruined! I wailed.

I could hear a bit of clatter coming from the kitchen. It was the kitchen staff, looking a bit hung over, cleaning up from the party of the night before.

The inspector walked over to some of the somewhat sober staffand began interviewing them to find out if they had seen or heard anything unusual while we were away.

The two women ((I think we are unknown to the present, and am I right that the castle is Corgarff? I couldn't access that article anymore)) rode onto the foreyard of the castle and looked at the masses of police present. They dismounted and walked into the castle hall, knocking at the door carefully.
Lierin looked at one police officer. "Uncle Sheamus, what the f.. eh.. what in all worlds are ye doin' here??" The Constable turned around and smiled. "Lierin, hen what a surprise. Another haircolour?"
She walked over to the man, greeting some of the other officers, and she was greeted back. "Moira, this is my uncle Sheamus MacDonald. Uncle Shea, this is Moira I met her recently and she spent a few nights wi' me." The purple haired young woman smiled broadly and then concentrated onto the two strangers. Both certainly not from here, no weatherproof jackets and the dress of that woman was far too short and fitted her too well that she could be british. "Hey there, I guess ye're two are no from here, I'm Lierin, yer neighbour. I guess yer that American woman who won the lottery? I live across the Balmoral grounds on the slope of Lochnagar." She smiled and extended her hand to the couple.

((just as an info.. Lochnagar is a mountain wink.gif ))

"Lierin, Moira; glad to meet you, this is my friend Ann and my name is Firth. It's nice to meet some normal people around here, seems that everyone we've met so far has been something other then what they appear."

We shook hands, then watched as the police started to move through the castle. I didn't like this place at all, and wanted more then anything to get Ann and get the hell out of there. She was feeling it as well, I am sure, because she was standing so close her shoulder was almost pushed into mine. I laid one hand on her forearm to sort of comfort her. The touch was electric.

The girl who had just introduced herself certainly had interesting colored hair, I couldn't quite put my finger on the exact shade it was, but it was definitely interesting. She spoke so softly, and directly that I had a strong feeling of tranquility in her presence, but it still wasn't enough to quit the feeling of dread coming from that monstrous old structure in front of us.

Back at the station, Mike had been sitting in an interrogation room for perhaps an hour, thinking that it was a good idea to bring (what he called his "get out of jail free" card) his State Department ID tag with him and leave his CIA ID, as well as all of his civilian IDs, with the station chief at the Embassy.

Finally, the door opened and two officers walked in. Mike said, "You guys are making a big mistake."

One of them asked, "Why do you say that?"

"Evidently, you haven't looked through my wallet closely. In it you will find a US State Department ID with my name, Thomas McLoughlin, on it. That means that I am a diplomat, and you are detaining me illegally."

Crap, thought the two officers, a diplomat. One of the officers said, "OK, we'll check the ID in your wallet and then verify it with the US Embassy. If it checks out, we'll let you go."

"That's all I want."

Howdy Lierin and Moira, I am Anne, pleased to meet you! I waved at them. I don't mean to be an impolite hostess. I would invite you two in, but we had a bit of trouble here last night. The police are here to conduct an investigation of the incident.

I am only going to be here for a short while longer. I just came to pick up a few of my things, and then we will be leaving this place. I hoped I had not been too bold to say "we" it just sort of slipped out of my mouth.

"Nice tae meet ye two, too. Weel, if yer headin' oot I can't change it. But feel free to hop by whenever yer aroond. I live just up from Balmoral Forest, ye have tae follow the signs there and up the road. Can I ask ye what happened last nicht? If it disny appear tae be rude that is. Ah'm an author of some books about local history and legends an' I always strife fer inspiration" Lierin replied in her thickest Hielan' brogue and noticed that the lock of the door had somehow been damaged. One officer just appeared to want to try and close it and she looked behind the door to try and figure out how this weird lock would work... and as realisation dawned on her, her eyes grew wide...
"No!" but too late, that wee daftie had closed it and now tried (in vain) to open it again.
"Bugger" she jumped to the young policeman and shoved him away. "Well done, yer wee..." she held the word in and let her fingers run over the lock. "Interestin' the officer here just locked us in... and it looks that the hole fer the key has been damaged...or it always had that weird form..." She had a very troubled look on her face...

We were standing just inside the door, talking with Lierin, trying to explain a little of what had happened. I was talking, Ann was starting to look more nervous with each passing minute. Our intention had been to just come in, grab Ann's cat, some clothes and the photocopy of her passport, and get out.
I was listening intently to be able to make out the girls accent, it had been a long time since I had been exposed to one quite so heavy.

"Last night Ann had intended to have a party here, but it seems that a bunch of different folks showed up and caused a real ruckus." I didn't want to go into too much detail, I figured she was one of the country folk that lived around here and would just think I was crazy if I went into too much detail. Still, I felt an odd sense of comfort, and said much more then I would normally have told a stranger. "Anyway, it seems that the house was broken into and we don't know what may have transpired. But in the course of events, Ann's Passport was stolen, and one of the reasons we came back was to collect the photocopy she had made, before we head off to the consulate in Edinburgh to have it replaced."

It was at that point I noticed her jump, and say something unintelligable, then I heard the door slam shut. Ann squeezed my arm, and held on.

These old castles sure are drafty!! I exclaimed as my startle reflexes made me jump. The wind slammed the door behind us and I was as nervous as long tailed cat in a room full of rocking chairs!

That Scottish woman is a bit odd looking, and I can't understand a single word that she is saying, but she seems nice enough. I just hope that she is harmless, too. I wonder what strange language she is speaking? Firth seems to understand her well enough, maybe he can translate for me.

The men in the corridore are photographing Big Foot's muddy trail through the house. I suppose that since there are no prints leading out of the castle, then our intruder must still be here in the castle somewhere...the Inspector mused and rubbed his chin, looking thoughtful. Let's give this place a thorough going over, men!

Is it okay for us to go upstairs and gather my belongings? I inquired.

Sure thing madam, but please let one of us escort you - that could be where the intruder is hiding! the officer responded.

No that's okay, Firth can escort me just fine, I said as I gave Firth's arm another little squeeze. He knows how to deal with these mean old bad guys!

That Santana song is stuck in my brain, driving me crazy...You're my reason for reason, you're the step in my groove...

((hehehe, I really doubt that the next village (called Corgarff, because I just transferred this castle to Corgarff, so we have an exact location) has more than the wee old village-policeman but ah well, no bother with that..)) The castle is not IN corgarff but on a steep slope above it...

Lierin saw the troubled look on the face of that couple in front of her and grinned... "Can ye understand me better now? she said with an accent that came close to something like a scottish version of Oxford, still accompanied by heavy rolled R's and the glottal stop ((silent T)).
"I've never been tae this castle in years, look, ye seem to be afraid to go roond here alone, so why don't we accompany ye and Firth tae yer rooms. I mean, eight ears hear better than four, as well as eight eyes see more than four." She smiled friendly and went over to the entrance of the elevator before she stopped and went back. "Ooh, before I forget, I have a wee welcoming package fer ye." She pulled a package of shortbread fingers and a sixpack of Irn Bru out of her bag. "Welcome tae bonny Caledonia," she said and grinned handing both over to Anne. "Instead of Bread and Salt, these things are things utterly Scottish."

I couldn't help but look at Ann as if she were completely out of her mind. What was she saying stuff like that for, I thought it was a pretty good idea for one of those police to go with us. This castle made me so nervous I could hardly stand it. My stomach was in knots and I had to control the urge to just turn and leave.

I knew better, but it still made me feel good to think she had enough confidence in me to say that I could take care of any bad guys. I hope she was right. I still had her arm in hand and we started up. When we reached the bedroom where her things were, the door was slightly ajar, and on entering the room, the cat was curled up on the bed sleeping.

We went in and she closed the door behind us.

I was so enthralled with Ann's attention that I hardly had noticed the two others that came up with us. Ann was clutching the shortbread in her hand and turned to face me.
