Seventy-five members of Congress asked House leaders on Tuesday to shut down a loophole allowing billions in economic stimulus funds to go to some 300,000 construction workers who are in the country illegally.

“I believe that this figure may be low,” Rep. Cliff Stearns, R-Fla., tells Newsmax. Stearns adds, “We owe it to the American workers and to American taxpayers to ensure that their money does not go to employ workers in our country illegally.”

If my tax dollars are being spent on this I want the jobs to go to citizens or those in the US legally! We are fighting for our own survival and it borders on treason to give the money to felons who are here illegally!

I doubt Obama will veto the bill.

Patch,

I read about e-verify being nixed. It appears it's business as usual. It's about the economy - yes, because then the very things that fill their wallets are saved...but about helping the American people on Main St. ? No.

Construction jobs, which they are talking about, are not jobs that Americans will not do.

This administration appears to be far worse than the bush administration ever was.

I see we may be tightening the border with Mexico but only to keep the drug wars from spilling into the US on a grander scale.

The Democrat party is all about increasing the number of people dependent on government, which helps to insure they remain in power. I never understood Bush's reasoning for being lax on immigration enforcement other than the ridiculess theory that pandering to the Hispanics will peel some of them off from the Democrat party (which isn't going to happen).

I believe your assessment is correct. It certainly didn't help the republicans last election!
