We are currently working on a new design for the top of our pages. Expect some strange things over the next hour before we get the design right.

Posted by: Macfive 09-Jul-2004, 10:49 PM
Ok, seems to be working ok. Looks kinda nice. Think I will redo the banner tommorow - won't change the look much, just make it less cluttered perhaps.

Posted by: Danann 09-Jul-2004, 11:50 PM
It looks good so far... I'll look for the new changes as they come! Thanks for all the hard work Paul!

Posted by: gtrplr 10-Jul-2004, 08:59 AM
Hey, Paul,

I like the new design, but the menubar in my browser is at the extreme top of the page, cutting into the 'dome' on the design (where the CR logo with the knotwork is). It's also not centered. It's functional, but I'm not sure that's what you intended.

BTW, I'm running Firefox on Mandrake 10. It may display fine in IE.

Posted by: Macfive 10-Jul-2004, 10:43 AM
Yes, I have some work to do on it and I will test it on linux mozilla too. I might even download firefox and make sure it works with that too. I think there is also a problem with 800x600 resolution.

So far the comments I have received are positive. I even think it might load a little quicker, not sure why, but probably has to do with removing the mouse over javascript pictures.

Posted by: Keltic 10-Jul-2004, 10:46 AM
I am seeing the same thing as gtrplr. My browser is IE 6 and my resolution is 1024 X 768

Posted by: greenldydragon 10-Jul-2004, 11:36 AM
It has been loading faster for me with the new design. I like it.

Posted by: oldraven 10-Jul-2004, 11:50 AM
I noticed instantly. It looks beauty, Mac. I'm having no such problems. Everything is visible, with a good 1/4" gap from the top, and all is centered.

As for the banner, I never did think those three images on the right fit. unsure.gif I think you would get the same effect if you removed those and mirrored the broach on the other end as well, where the castle ruin is.

Posted by: greenldydragon 10-Jul-2004, 11:53 AM
I like the banner the way it is, but if you want to change it go ahead.

Posted by: 3Ravens 10-Jul-2004, 12:24 PM
Looks good, Paul! I partially agree with Oldraven. The size of the small orange-toned pic of a lady is such that no detail is there anyway, that one could go away.
I like the other two tho.

Posted by: Macfive 10-Jul-2004, 12:42 PM
Ok, a more simplier banner with more open scene and just the girl and castle.

If everyone can check the look and placement of the menu it should be above the banner. I am going to try it with mozilla and firefox, but am headed out to the beach! smile.gif

This was purely by accident. I am not very good with graphcis so when I do something it is with a whim and a pray!

Posted by: 3Ravens 10-Jul-2004, 12:48 PM
Menu placement is fine here. I just have the standard stuff, Windows XP and IE.

Posted by: greenldydragon 10-Jul-2004, 01:17 PM
Looks good to me!

Posted by: CelticRose 10-Jul-2004, 03:23 PM
Looks really great to me, Paul! You did a beautiful job! thumbs_up.gif I like your color schemes too and those nice Celtic silver designs on the corners! Nice touch!

It looks good to me:

G5 PowerMac OS X 10.3.4 Safari 1.2.2

Posted by: Keltic 11-Jul-2004, 08:07 AM
Paul,

The menu is actually above the semi-circle header and not directly above the banner. Again, I'm using IE 6 and screen resolution is at 1024 X 768

What OS are you using?

Have you tried deleting your temp files and refreshing?

If you are using windows and IE it should be work properly. There are some pages I have not gotten to yet.

I'm going to test it today with different browsers and OS after I do a little bit more work on it.

Posted by: Keltic 11-Jul-2004, 10:36 AM
I'm using Windows XP and clearing temp files fixed the problem. Looks much better now. Thanks

Posted by: Aaediwen 11-Jul-2004, 08:44 PM
Looks fine here, although seems a little spartan. There's practically nothing there above the menu. Needs something to fill the empty space on each side of the "Celtic Radio" header...

FireFox=Mozilla (in browser part)

for me
I think I have to take a while to get used to this new setup
and the menubar is a little bit out of place
will post a pic later

(update)
never mind
once I maximize the window, or simply press F11, it looks ok

Posted by: Danann 12-Jul-2004, 07:29 AM
Mac, You know if you want any banner help I'll gladly give it. I think you have a good handle on it though. Let me know if you want anythink like the graphics or fonts I used for that one design I sent you.

Posted by: CelticRose 12-Jul-2004, 07:43 AM
Hey! I think everything looks perfect. You all are too picky! tongue.gif

Posted by: Snoogans 12-Jul-2004, 07:46 AM
'nother idea
make the semi circle banner at the top a link to the home page.
I don't know about anyone else but I found it handy to click when on another page and wanting to get back to see what is playing and rate a song.

Posted by: Madadh 12-Jul-2004, 09:03 AM
Mac,

The design looks good.

It looks lovely Paul! I noticed the changes right away. I feel the revised banner is cleaner and flows together even better with just the two smaller pics to the right. Very nice!

Posted by: Aaediwen 12-Jul-2004, 12:28 PM
Indeed, the new banner is cleaner smile.gif I really like Lady McKennitt, however the banner looks better without her cover art on it. Just didn't really belong there I guess smile.gif

Posted by: Macfive 12-Jul-2004, 04:44 PM
Thank you all of the very nice comments!

I'm beginning to learn that simplier is better. I was actually working on a new banner that had a number of album covers on it, then realized it looked better with out them.

Is there any increase in performance on the page loads? I did notice today from an offsite location that it seems the menu loads first, then the rest of the page.

Track duration on the favourites and the track info windows?
Just a thought since you seemed to like my other ideas. (are you mad?)

Thanks again for these suggestions. No I am not mad? Just very busy. I may not get to all of these right away as I am trying to wrap up 3-4 projects. Seems like for the past month I have been saying to myself ?another 2-3 weeks? but some new idea or project seems to take my time away. My goal is now to finish major programming up for the year by the end of the month. Then to concentrate more on content. In between this I need to paint the house. Anyone want to come over for a painting party? smile.gif

Posted by: Aragorn 15-Jul-2004, 10:37 AM
Paul,

I like the new looks for the site. Everything is groovy. Hey flip for the plane ticket and I will help!!! biggrin.gif

BTW: thanks for all your help earlier.

Posted by: CelticRose 15-Jul-2004, 03:38 PM
Paul! You and Killian do such a really terrific job. The site looks good and all these new features are really wonderful! Sorry you have such a full plate. Do you ever have time to sleep at night?! unsure.gif Sorry, I can't help you paint the house. That is out of my league anymore, but hope you get lots of help doing it! You needed to have sons as well! wink.gif biggrin.gif

Posted by: 3Ravens 15-Jul-2004, 04:02 PM
Hey CR! Mac does have one son. Just not big enough to climb the ladder.

Oh wow! Mac does have a son?! I thought they were all daughters for some reason. Well feed that boy well and get him up that ladder! laugh.gif

Posted by: Macfive 15-Jul-2004, 05:59 PM
Yes, I do have one son. He is the next James MacArthur...literally! He dances, he tells jokes and he is very handsome. I think there is picture on here of him somewhere. I will try to get an updated one. He is 11 - oh and his name is James!

Posted by: CelticRose 15-Jul-2004, 07:26 PM
Really, Mac? I somehow did not catch on or forgot that you had a son too! Forgive me, it is my age! rolleyes.gif laugh.gif

I look in the member's gallery but have a hard time figuring out who is who in there! I am sure it is just me being the dope..............again! rolleyes.gif

Posted by: mingkee 15-Jul-2004, 09:56 PM
Paul told me about that through msn
and the part of the reason getting interested on celtic is for his boy
now his intention become big idea
this is a great idea to collect the celtic clan, scots and irish, and everybody is interested at one place

Posted by: faolin 15-Jul-2004, 11:06 PM
Love the new set-up; definitely a lot faster to load (especially as I am still stuck in the dark ages with my dial up connection!). Keep up the good work biggrin.gif

Posted by: Aaediwen 16-Jul-2004, 04:19 AM
I would come for the painting party, but I'm afriad I probably wouldn't be much help. Funny how I don't tend to be a lot of help when it comes to such things...

Posted by: faolin 16-Jul-2004, 10:27 AM
The painting party could be like ye good olde barn raising parties biggrin.gif

I'd come Paul if I had a plane ticket and then you all could come over and help me finish painting my place tongue.gif

I love the new top design. Beautiful knotwork! And it seems a little less cluttered to me.

Posted by: Camchak 16-Jul-2004, 09:19 PM

Posted by: Lyra Luminara 18-Jul-2004, 07:24 PM
I took it of my friend Karen

Posted by: emerald-eyedwanderer 19-Jul-2004, 10:35 AM
I really like the set up now. I also love the picture of your friend. I'm glad I don't have to make the decisions! biggrin.gif

Wow! I really love the photo of your friend, Lyra! Very very beautiful! thumbs_up.gif
