Ceciliastar,
I know what you mean by Christians condemning these books. I used to look after this young 9 yr old girl who was in the local Logos program at school (Christian based learning in a public school). Just for the record I am a Christian myself lol. She came home one day saying her teacher said Harry Potter was satanic. I am like whaaaaat! lol. Just about that time the 1st Lord of the Rings movie was coming out and her teacher was all fine with that tho. Her teacher said that because Harry Potter had witches and majick in them that they were satanic. I said there was wizards and majick in Lord of the Rings so what was the difference.......maybe that Tolkien was a Christian it made the subject ok or something. I dunno lol. All I could think was this is too close to the book burnings of Nazi Germany for my comfort so I called the head of the Logos program to complain. Well I met a brick wall but I felt better having vented lol. The girl and I went on to have many conversations around what she heard in school and at church and at her home and mine. So in the end I guess Harry Potter opened a whole new world for her in discussion and debate lol.......not too bad for satanic books eh?! lol

Thanks soooooo much W. of O..
Yes please help me with the dictionaries as I really have never seen a Gaelic one......and yes it is Scottish Gaelic I am looking for.

Faolin,
I am also from Canada and did French in school up to grade 10 then did the military French language training in St Jean sur Richelieu. I come from Nova Scotia and have heard Gaelic many times and I can tell you they sound nothing alike. Gaelic is more gutteral like English than the sing song French language. This is in my humble opinion tho. As for grammar in the 2 languages, I have no idea. My grammar in English leaves much to be desired forget any second language I have learned lol. I still don't conjugate french verbs.......I let those who I am speaking to figure out what I am saying lol.

I think the quote can best be desribed with an example. Take 2 kids; one very intelligent and one marginal. Intelligent kid decides to do drugs, etc. Marginal kid studies his/her ass off at school and maybe plays on the soccer team. Marginal kids goes to university through hard work. Intelligent kids goes to detox. Its all about choices and new doors that open with those choices. You can have all the skill in the world but if you don't work it, it is nothing.
The Potter books rock. I have read them all to my 5 yr old daughter. I am waiting for movie 3 to go to the cheap theatre cause hey! I do have Scottish roots lol. The best one I think was The Order of the Phoenix. I think the next book may see McGonnagal helping Harry on his road to becoming an auror as she swore to do in the last book. And personally I think Ron and Hermione will become an item. They squabble like an old married couple already and he gets all choked when she mentions.......good lord what's that quiddich guys name Hermione went to the dance with.......well you all know who I mean. And that is all in my humble opinion.

Love, Awen

Ahhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I can't view the pics! But yep, I have to admit that the water is probably the best thing about N.S. It's what I miss the most about home. Here in Alberta there is scarce little water. You have to go hours to find what they call a lake only to discover that it is a slough.......yeck. I would love to see these pics......especially the habour one cause that's where I grew up.

Just some comments from lil' ol' me.
First, men are hot in kilts......who cares what race they are!
Second, real men go regimental!
I had my daughter at a highland dance competition about 3 weeks ago and one of the premier dancers was of asian decent so don't let your race stop you from wearing a kilt.
Now for which tartan......well I was trying to find my clan tartan in dress not hunting for my daughter to compete in. Apparently we of Clan Gunn do not have a dress tartan. However, you can design your own tartan and even have it registered. It is really costly but can be done. This may be an idea for you.
As for kid's kilts. Try going to your local highland dance web site and looking for consigned kids kilts. That's how I got my daughter's competition outfit......made in Scotland (kilt, blouse, vest and hose) for $250 Canadian.......a frickin steal.
Well that's my 2 cents lol.

Keith's is by far the best damn beer about in my humble opinion. Sleeman's makes some pretty good beer and if you have been to the Kingston Brew Pub in Kingston On they have a fine microbrewery going on there. Their Regal Ale is frickin awesome! beer.gif

Hey folks!
I am new here and this is my 1st post. I am originally from Nova Scotia (Dartmouth) and transplanted via the military (long story) in Alberta. OldRaven, I went to TUNS as well and yes it is part of Dal now. Called DalTech or some nonsense. I graduated from Dal in 85 and TUNS in 88. To Faolin, I would pick Acadia if I had to do it over again. Its a wonderful and beautiful campus, not too big and has alot of school spirit. Just my opinion tho. Well Thats it for now. Nice to be here!

Love, Awen
