Bad News..., & Good News!

Hi everyone!

Sorry I haven't been on for about a week! It seems I got a virus on the new computer I had that my wife's cousin gave me! But the good news is my wife gave me the okay to order a new Dell! Should be here tomorrow! I can't wait!

I HATE Viruses and spyware! The people who created that mess need to be hunted down and have their fingernails and toenails yanked out one by one!

Anyway, I should be back online on a regular basis starting tomorrow night! I've missed you guys!

Well, I have to tell you I've missed you too Big Bro!

You AT LEAST get a new computer out of the whole mess!

Just be sure and get anti-virus and anti-spyware protection on the new one. We don't want to lose you again. We miss your bright, shining face too much when you're not here.

Hello Allen,

You need to make sure you have Spyware remover, anti-virus program and a firewall installed on the new system. You can get a free anti-virus which I use all the time and works the best at: www.avast.com, download the home version which is free. I have never has a virus on my system since I started to use this program. You also need to get a firewall like ZoneAlarm.

Sorry to hear about this. I am with you there about hunting those people down. Even CelticRadio.net we had to change our webstats because these spammers were trying to get their sites listed in there. Now we have it password protect - but thanks to Aaediwen we have some bar charts that we can display for the webstats.

They also every once in a while post a message in our guestbook with a link to a bad site - of which we promptly delete!

We use the following on our computer: McAfee online virus ($29.95 a year), Spybot Remover Search and destroy (free), Lavasoft Ad remover (free).

This seems to do the trick. Also if you use a firewall and popup blocker be sure not to include CelticRadio.net or Celtichearts.com in the blocking! Otherwise our site will not function properly for you!

Last summer I had to have the ol' PC overhauled due to it being bunged up by spyware and viruses.
The fella that did the work said that installing the Windows XP upgrade should take care of my problems, without the benefit of any more antispyware/virus programs. I was leary, but to tell you the truth, I have not had anymore problems since he did the upgrade!

Hi Allen! I am sorry to hear that you got hit again. I have Ad-aware and Spybot for spyware and Norton for anti-virus and do pretty well. I also have Google pop-up blocker which works really well.

Like dragonboy said, at least you get a new computer out of it.

Sorry to hear about your misfortune there, Wizard, but glad to see you've returned! I've been on and off of the site for the past week or so myself due to being busy...but hey, that's the working life for ya! I feel your pain totally, as well. Last week I did a virus and spyware/adware scan on my system and not suprisingly found and treated 2 viruses and 20 instances of spyware/adware. It is very unfortunate that we live in an age when there doesn't seem to be a way to stop these things. Oh and about that fingernail thing...that just gave me cold shivers thinking about it! Sounds like an excellent torture method for would be hackers though!

Wow, Wizard. Reading that sounds like so much deja-vu! That is exactly what's happened to our computer at home. I know it's some adware thing but I'd swear it's part chameleon. Just when we think we'd gotten rid of it the damn thing would rear it's ugly head again under a different file name. Now our pc is has undergone complete lockdown. We can power it on and off and nothing more.

I think you're being too kind on the jerks who create this kind of crap. Don't just stop at their finger and toe nails. I'd say post yank give them a total body wax, head included and then dip them into a nice cold alcohol bath.



Of course this would work too, a bit messy though.

Allen, Sorry you got one of those cotton picken viruses that bumfuzzles your puter and drives you up the wall! It's wonderful your getting a new puter, I'm glad Mrs. WizardofOwls gave you permission!

I say as far as those freako's that like to mess our puters up with viruses and whatever, pluck their nose hair out, hang them over a pit of vipers and slowly let them down to get a bird's eye view of those venomous creatures and then pull their fingers and toenails out.
