Ahoy mateys! Are you interested in Nightwish or involved with them in some way? Well I'm starting a thread on Nightwish! With their new lineup inovlving Anette Olzon, they have some pretty neat stuff coming up. A new DVD, as I recall, will be arriving soon.

Recently the Wishmaster album was released and have recently found out about this band from Aaediwen, where he heard them from celtic radio, I must say that we would be interested in hearing from fellow Nightwish fans. If you get a chance go ahead and post here or visit us in #Celticradio on IRC at www.celticradio.net.

Lately Aaediwen and I have been jamming with a dvd we have acquired of their music. Jamming to them in dolby digital has become quite a neat affair. So here it is. Post away!

All Hail Nightwish!

HMMM, I thought I was the one who introduced Anthony to Nightwish. smile.gif

If CR is playing any of their songs, it has to be 2 of them off the current cd, A Passion Play. Islander and Last Of The Wilds have some nice Celtic sound to them. The only other possibility would be Over The Hills and Far Away, which, if commercial radio plays a Nightwish song, that's the one that they have worn out.

Nightwish already released a dvd a couple of years ago (End Of An Era) which was the farewell concert for Tarja, when they fired her. And rightfully so. After you watch that show, you will see why they presented her with a letter at the end of the show, telling her she was no longer needed. Even though she was a founding member of the band.

Anatte has stepped in some pretty big shoes but has done a very nice job of quieting the critics. Still, she will never replace Tarja and Nightwish never will be the same.

The thing that folks here at CR need to know, is the fact that Nightwish is not a Celtic band. They are a heavy metal band from Finland, that just happens to have a few songs that have a Celtic theme or the usage of a few Celtic instruments. If you are a fan of heavy metal, your speakers will be filled to the max with sound. Nightwish loads up with power and delivers it.

It's just unfortunate that Tarja is no longer delivering her powerful vocals. sad.gif

My introduction to Nightwish was hearing "Sleeping Sun" here on Highlander Radio. There is also a rendition or two of "Over the Hills and Far Away" in rotation, one by Pipin' Hot. I've been wanting that CD for a while but the Nightwish EP with it fills the void nicely. They also do pretty good with "Walking in the Air".

Although there are some other tracks from Nightwish that would perhaps fit in a Celtic themed playlist, they are a metal band first, last, and in-between. If you're in to metal at all, I recommend them

Aaediwen, If you get the chance to get the Pipin Hot CD get it. You won't be sorry. Every song on it is excellent. I made a copy of mine and put the original up. I've almost worn out the copy.

Ahoy mateys,

Got the End of an Era DVD yesterday. Whoa, it's amazing how the crowd has lights when they dim the lights during Sleeping Sun. Wish I could go back in time and go to the concert!

Sometimes you get an interesting surprise. I was saying the other day that Nightwish is not a Celtic band, and nor do they pretend to be....

Then I got my CD of Dark Passion Play in from overseas......

If track 10, "The Islander", is not a modern Celtic tune, then I don't need to be listening to music. Even Nightwish's versions of "Walking in the Air" and "Over the Hills and Far Away" don't sound like a Celtic band or really a overtly Celtic tune due to their rendering of it. "The Islander" is DEFINITELY a Celtic tune! The rythem, cadence and feel of it, ohh, and it even features the Uillian pipes!

NICE TUNE!

Nightwish is a good band, I've just recently been introduced to their music, I like it a lot though.

Dude,

I've wanted to check out the Blue Man group. They've had showings here in KC quite a bit, but my friends never seem interested. I need new friends that like blue things. Let me know how it is after you see them. Hope you are liking all that killer Nightwish stuff ya have. By the way, anyone reading this thread, we got more Nightwish fans in the chat. So join us.

Also, my first post was way off. That album, it was released a long time ago. haha. Apparently there is a finnish version just released this year, or something, never found it, but it exists probably! That's what I was talking about.

The song for the Dragonlance movie is Wishmaster, off the 2000 album of the same name, I believe. Have you heard Tarja's new solo release?

She's my new desktop wallpaper..... dribble.gif

Ok, May 30th, Aaediwen and I went to a Nightwish concert in Louisville, Kentucky, USA. We picked up his sister and brother-in-law as they bought tickets, too. Upon arriving the venue, there weren't a whole lot of people there and we got a good place in line. Once they split the lines between ticket holders and everyone else, it was a nice long line still, but we got a nice place up toward the front. We had a great time even when there were tall people all around us blocking great views. Wish I had a sledgehammer with me to knock'em down a bit. It was nice and warm toward the end, but it was great overall. It was a great concert and the fans were going crazy. After watching their live performances on the DVDs I have, it always made me feel really neat to see the band bow before their audience. Seeing that in person made it even neater, kinda felt like tearing up a bit. Whoa! What a concert!

If anyone likes Nightwish and wants one of the neatest experiences with their music, get a ticket! They come back to the US in October, if anyone is interested and is in the US. Otherwise, check out their schedule on their web site. http://www.nightwish.com

They did a great line up, and they played the songs most everyone in the crowd liked. They even had the Indian guy there! He was on tour with them and whoa! Dude! I can't describe it!

Okay, go see Nightwish, live!

I agree... You really should see them live, their show is awesome!

Btw, I have seen their bass player Marco at the local store a few times (I live quite near him) and he looks as wild in nature as he does in their gigs biggrin.gif
