Got any plans for the weekend?

The usual on Saturday for me: cleaning my apartment and going to 5PM Mass at my church. Sunday, my local fire department is hosting a pancake breakfast, so I was thinking of going to that.

Weed the gardens. Ugh! My grandson (4 yrs) was helping me pull weeds once and we were talking about Spiderman- he loves super heroes, but, he really likes the bad guys more than the good guys! I told him that the weeds were bad guy plants and the flowers and herbs were good guy plants. Mistake- he wanted to leave the weeds and pull the flowers untill I told him the bad guy plants really liked to be pulled, soo- he was a good help after that.

I plan to put on my kilt, clean up some flower beds, sip a few beers, and maybe BBQ after my wife gets home from picking up the girls from Calvin Crest- a small christian camp up near Yosemite Valley.

I got some new music from my oldest daughter- the Medeavael Baebes. I plan on listening to that as I get the gardening done.

We got the money for our remodel yesterday, so I am going Saturday to Amarillo to Lowes and Home Depot to get everything ordered. WOOHOO!!!! biggrin.gif

We're going to go camping tomorrow night. We've got a meeting with a client in the morning, then we go out to my parents house to get setup. My uncle is coming down with most of his family (his kids have families of their own) to camp in the field near the river. Mum needs my help getting the fire pit ready and such. Dad already went down and mowed a portion of the field with the tractor (it's a very big mower wink.gif ).

I'll probably end up clearing a path to the lake at some point as well, and maybe even getting to the island.

Oh, and the sun is shining! biggrin.gif

I'm going to the NASCAR race this weekend in Joliet, IL.

Good for you Val there nothing more fun than shopping for remodeling.

As for me it'll be just sit back and relax week-end nothing particular except maybe playing in the garden and enjoy my book in the hammock with a good scotch. smile.gif

I leave for the Philmont Scout Ranch tomorrow evening. I'll have a relaxing 18 hour ride on Amtrak's Southwest Chief. I'm so looking forward to spending a week out there. Its been 13 years since I was last out there, and I'm hoping that not much has changed. I can't wait.

This weekend I am putting the finishing touches on my room at school. YEAH!!!!!! (I teach 4 year olds at our Christian school at our church). School doesn't start until Aug. 13 (I remember when we didn't start until after Labor Day). Anyway, I want it finished before my husband and I, with our kids, leave NEXT weekend for one of the Georgia state parks for a week! We go there every year. There are only 4 cabins with no t.v. and no phones. We will carry our cell phones - just in case there is a family emergency! This time of year there is no one else there - probably because there's not a lot to do except hike, fish, relax, look at the stars, etc. Not much to do in town, that is! Anyway, I am headed over to the church in a few minutes to get started. I don't want to have to be worrying about setting things up right before school starts.

Going to start taking everything out of our bedroom and bathroom to get ready for the remodel. The house is going to be a total wreck for awhile. We have to put the bed in the bar and most of the furniture will be in the living room. biggrin.gif

I will be replacing Captain's seat with a 76 quart swingback cooler seat and replacing the seat over built in cooler. It will be shrimping season soon so I will be inspecting my castnets. Then I plan to fish saturday afternoon. August is a slow month. I may try and catch some tarpon in the mouth of Sapelo Sound. The tides will be on the down swing as the Full Moon was Monday. cool.gif

How was Philmont? I live pretty close to there, but haven't been to the camp itself.
Hubby went as a boy scout and still talks about it often.
We were just up in Cimmaron eating at the haunted St. James Hotel. Alas, no ghosts visited us.

Friday night, my family and I are going out for dinner to celebrate my sister's and niece's birthdays. It's hard to believe Megan is 8 already. Seems like just last week I was bouncing her on my knee and she was staring with fascination at my keys ohmy.gif !

The wife and kids are all leaving for four days to go up to UC Davis with the High 4H of Tulare County. I will be home alone for four days! I plan on going to the mountains Saturday to take a long deserved and much looked forward to hike in the woods. Hopefully a daylong affair along the North Fork of the Kaweah River coming out of Sequoia National Park. Maybe I can scare up a camera to take along.

They finally have the sheetrock up, so I am going to try my hand at texturing the walls. Hopefully it won't be too much of a disaster.

The last 5-6 weekends in a row have been away fron the house. I NEED to garden this weekend- partly because I can't stand being out of touch with my gardens and partly because they need me to take care if them! Hopefully I can listen to some good music while working- I just bought the new Alison Barber cd and it's really a nice bunch of Irish tunes!

Posted by: Lady of Avalon 05-Oct-2007, 04:40 PM
Hope you have fun in your garden TandVh here it's clean up time before winter. But this week end we plan on finishing the touch ups in the bedroom that we completely remodeled and for Monday well...the husband bought football tickets for the Alouettes game in Montreal.
Hope I won't fall asleep during the game...to me football is such a bore.
But the real fun will be after the game since we're going to Hurley's Pub for a pint.Yeah that's more like it!! beer_mug.gif

Besides work (lots of work; 12 hours today, plus piping a memorial service), took the wife to St. Petersburg to see the Battlefield Band. One of the sponsors I've piped for before; when they saw me, they ushered us up to reserved seating; 3rd row, stage front-right; perfect seats! A friend of mine (request Brendan Nolan on Celticradio.net) opened for them, and we had a wonderful time. We're both working so hard, it's a fine rare thing to get a "date night" out together; we savour it when the chance presents itself.

Posted by: Gwynhwyvar 15-Oct-2007, 09:19 PM
I am out of school for half a day this Wednesday, no school Thursday or Friday - Yeah!!!!! Getting some things done around the house and yard and resting - then heading to the Stone Mountain Highland Games on Saturday and Sunday for some fun and fellowship. biggrin.gif

If things go right this week,(fingers crossed) we will be laying the floor and then moving everything back into our new mastersuite. smile.gif

Posted by: coastman 16-Oct-2007, 12:06 PM
I have put buying the van on hold. There are more important things to do, like fish. This friday I will pick my boat up from the shop. E-10 gasoline is not good for outboard motors. Saturday I will pick out the meat on a bushel of crabs and then I will put up about 50 more pounds of shrimp. Shrimp, crabs, and fish are everywhere on Georgia's coast. cool.gif It is a tough life but someone has to do it. biggrin.gif

Going to a funeral saturday. One of my husband friend got shot down by accident by a hunting poacher on his own land. He was 41 years old.

Posted by: gwenlee 17-Oct-2007, 05:18 PM
Avalon that is so sad about your husbands friend, are they sure it was an accident when poachers are involved?

I'm going to Stone Mountain for the Highland Games. I have been working there all week. Friday night is a dance, Saturday and Sunday I'll be dancing during the games, and then Saturday night my daughter and I will go to the Tartan Ball.
It will be a very busy weekend and I hope to meet Gwynhwyvar.

Posted by: Lady of Avalon 17-Oct-2007, 05:37 PM
The investigation is not over yet for sure. But from what little we know is that our friend was on his land duck hunting himself with others, friends and family. And this guy just pulled over by the road with a 22 caliber and just went where they were.
He took our friend for a duck and shot him in his cache and when he realized what he'd done just abandonned the gun and ran away.
The others saw him and ran after him but he got in his car but they had time to take the plate number and they arrest him. That's all we know for now. Is it all true? Only God knows.
And yes it's really sad. In my eyes poachers are murderers with no respect for nature and human life.Thank you for your consideration gwenlee and I wish you a lot of fun this week-end at Stone Mountain and that you'll meet Gwynhwyvar. Hope you have nice weather.

Posted by: Gwynhwyvar 18-Oct-2007, 05:03 PM

LoA, so sorry to hear about your husband's friend...Right now it's not safe for anyone to be in the woods with all the hunting going on. We have signs up, NO Hunting, No Trespassing and people pay no attention. I love to go walking in the woods this time of year, but I don't want to take that chance of getting shot.

I hope everyone has a great week end, it's back to work for me Sat. and Sun.

maggiemahone1

Posted by: Lady of Avalon 19-Oct-2007, 06:16 PM
Thanks Rindy and thanks maggie...yes so true nothing is safe anymore.
A simple and relaxing walk into the woods can turn tragic.

We are surrounde by woods here and it's been like that for many many years that at this time of year it's hunting season and we hear gun shot all the times.

Where there is farmland and woods I think it is more appropriate to hunt but not when houses are near. You never know when a ball could be lost and end up in your face in your own house. I think there is more and more poachers and it's out of control.

To you Ladies I wish you both a great and safe week-end.LOA

Nothing!!! Total laziness, maybe a little walk and then more rest.

Might go to some of the Halloween parties this weekend. Other than that I hope to catch up on some much needed sleep.

Not much planned at all. My son came back from France where his company participated in an exchange of trainees and apprentices. They spent a week with French ones in Normandy and in January the French will come over here for a week. They had a great time.
I'm having a great time, too ...
rolleyes.gif biggrin.gif ...with all the laundry that has to be done now. So my washing machine and I are very busy today.

I might go out for a party tonight but if I was sensible I better stayed at home to try to get rid of that chest cold that is still pestering me. So maybe I will end up snuggled in on the sofa in front of the TV set with a fine toddy and my cat warming my feet... wink.gif

Sitting here doing my usual Saturday chore -- grading papers. But tomorrow I'm going up the Hudson with a friend just to get the heck out of the city and see if any foliage is fit to look at yet. Hardly any leaf color in the city. sad.gif

LOA, wanted to express my sorrow over your husband's friend.

Been trying to learn Adobe Photoshop. Never thought I would learn a licking thing on that program, but I finally am and totally addicted! So been working on some post-processing on photos. Also been trying to catch up on much needed old emails....ugh! I am so behind.

Tomorrow we have a big day at church, with a BBQ and all. So I am taking photos for that and everything else happening that day.

Also been working on 18thc research, but then when am I never doing that?! LOL
