The City of Toronto, poulation 3 1/2 million, Canada's Largest City, is now in the third week of a City Employees (Outside Worker) Strike. This includes the Garbage men. The city has opened up over twenty temporary dump sites, which happen to be public parks, for residence to take their garbage to. These of course are being picketed and it is making it extremely difficult for residents to dispose of their waste. Toronto is now RANK. As one approaches the city one gets the first whiff of decomposing waste and that dark haze you see isn't smog it is flies and all those critters running around aren't raccoons. The ones without masks are rats. The union sure picked a great time to strike, Summer, and all over sick days which they get 18 per year and can accumulate up to 6 months worth and be paid for upon retirement. Every other major union C.A.W. and others have made concessions due to the economy to stay in business and ward off loosing their jobs forever. Not, C.U.P.E . (Canadian Union of Public Employees) they know governments don't go bankrupt and that the tax payer will always bail out the government. Meanwhile the garbage is already as high as a Giraffe's butt the rats are getting bigger and soon you will not be able to see the skyline for the clouds of flies. These people should be declared essential workers by the Provincial Government and their right to strike curtailed. We are talking serious threat to Health here.
