I would have never thought it would happen, but I am glad to hear it did. They have put a ban on smoking in any public place in Ireland.

If they would do those things in the US, it could become as quiet as Ireland.

Never happen. The ACLU would get involved and say we were violating the rights of smokers. I'm surprised with them around there are non-smoking sections in restaurants. Liberal censored.gif !

Don't worry, tsargent. Just like with metric, you'll catch up with the rest of us eventually. Smoking is already banned up here in any public place, unless it carries a liquor licence.

In the state of California it is illegal to smoke in ANY public place. Law is about four years old, mostly ignored and not a priority to enforce. king.gif

Here is another article that was printed on the 28th.

It's the end of 'the craic', they say - but Irish smokers are scheming

In NY there is also a smoking ban, and from what I have seen on the news they are cracking down on anyone who violates it. I go to plenty of bars and NOBODY smokes inside even on the coldest days in the winter. I LOVE IT!!

Anti smoking laws have nothing to do with conservatives or liberals, only with people who want to breath.... biggrin.gif

Do liberals need to breathe? I figured they were too busy feeling everyone's pain. tongue.gif

Speaking as a former smoker, I quit 24 years ago. However, I do not like being told what I am allowed to do and what I am not allowed to do.

Now I can see not allowing Smoking in such places as Office Building, Department Stores, Grocery Stores and even Schools.

But to not allow Smoking in Pubs, Bars and even some Restaurants in my opinion is going a little overboard.

In California they are trying to make it illegal to even Smoke outside. Now this is ridiculous and again this is my opinion.

This falls into the category of the Seat Belt Laws, Helmet Laws and numerous others that someone else is making their discission on me how I am to live.

The irish have introduced the toughest anti-smoking laws in Europe. In order to ensure that publicans don't collude with smokers, they have made the law such that not only smokers will be penalised (expensively) but so will any pub in which smokers are 'caught'... It is going to be a very difficult transition - although a colleague was in Dublin the day it was introduced - and said it was amazing to be in pubs in Temple Bar without the usual blue 'smog' that is the usual addition to the atmosphere!

Was out riding on Sat. and stopped at an 1800's stage coach pub and Inn up in Pine Bush, N.Y. and was surprised to see the NO SMOKING signs all over the pub. Which made me very happy. And everyone who smoked, was actually going outside.

That was grand to sit and eat my lunch without any smoke around. thumbs_up.gif
New Jersey is slowly changing things but very slowly.
