With summer finally touching all of us, I believe we are outside enjoying all the great sensations.

Out of the five major senses .... seeing, smelling, tasting, touching, and hearing, if you had to give up one of them; which would it be and why?

Ralph Waldo Emerson

Forget not that the earth delights to feel your bare feet and the winds long to play with your hair.
K. Gibran

In every walk with nature one receives far more than he seeks.
John Muir

"Climb the mountains and get their good tidings. Nature's peace will flow into you as sunshine flows into trees. The winds will blow their own freshness into you, and the storms their energy, while cares will drop off like autumn leaves."
John Muir

That's easy!! Sense of smell.

I have three boys. I love seeing them grow into handsome young men... I love tasting the breakfasts they make for me on Fathers Day... I love feeling their hugs... I love hearing their laughter.... but damn the can be smelly!!!

I believe I would give up taste. If one looses their sense of smell taste goes to but not the other way around.

tongue.gif Keltic, I know what you are talking about. Having a very active family myself and living in Florida where the males sweat the moment they walk out the door (Southern women glisten angel_not.gif ) it is not hard to work up an unique flavor. sweatdrop.gif

Patch, that is what I thought also. I understand that when you lose a sense the others become sharper. What kind of experience would it be to smell and feel the bubbles of soda but not taste the drink? But I couldn't give up the other senses they are too important to me.

Anyone else have a thought?

My son is doing some work at a house where some brick mason's are also working. The father is near 70 and he has twin sons, both of whom are deaf mutes. It was interesting watching them communicate. The father got the son's attention by raping on the brick with a trowel. The sons picked up the vibrations and looked at him to read his lips. They used sign language. They could communicate over the sound of a masonry saw where I could not hear a thing.

I think that I would give up my sight. I would still be able to imagine what is described to me. I would still be able to smell the flowers and feel the breezes.

I wouldn't give up my hearing as I would have no use to live without hearing music. I've thought about it and I decided I would lose my sense of taste. May be I would get skinny then...lol...
