Yeah, that was the quote I read somewhere regarding how people worry about what other people think of them so much, especially when people are younger.

I thought it was rather funny....... and true.

Keep us updated on the peat.

Great posts, Gang! And hey, the "nerdy" thing from me was more "tongue in cheek" than anything else. My kids (all seven) actually still think I'm great. And they all still ask Dad and Mom for advice!!

For those of us doing the "peat" thing, it will be neat to hear how it all goes! I just remember that wonderful aroma when we were in Ireland.

Have a great day, Friends!

A Happy St. Patrick's Day to all!

Wow, a turf fire that is really cool. Where did you get the turf to burn from?

Still waiting for mine to come. Did you start the fire then toss the peat on?

I'm stuck at work tonight (night shift) but there will be a little bit of a St. Patrick's Day party potluck before we start. Not what I wanted to do but it's something.

Great day yesterday with friends and coworkers. Lots of laughs and great music and fun atmosphere.

Today, now a gathering with family. We have my daughter's Irish step show today and it is always a yearly highlight for me. So glad she has taken to this style of dancing. So proud of her and she is really good at it.

My wife already has 2 corned beefs on the stove. After the dance, dinner and spirits at our house with many family members.

Peat update??

Ordering the peat to have for a gathering this summer with a nephew getting married. He'll love it as we will do something special for him. For his honeymoon he is going to Ireland.

OK, here's the peat update!

It was overall terrific! They have a short video on the website about how to start a turf fire. I'm glad I watched it. I also watched a couple of others just to get as many tips as I could.

Here's the negative; the stuff is a bit hard to light. Not impossible, mind you, but a bit of work. I actually wished I had ordered more turf than I did.

The brickettes MUST be broken into slimmer pieces. They are too thick and too compressed to be burned as they are. I have an air-tight wood burning stove, so I had to "create" a grate using kindling to set the peat on. I believe a fireplace or an open fire outside would be easier to work with.

The positive - what a beautiful aroma!! When my wife and I traveled to Ireland in 2011, one could smell the peat fires coming from the chimneys. That smell was replicated and I felt like I was back in Eire! The effort to get the fire going was amply rewarded by the results! In addition to the brickettes, I had a couple of pieces of turf and they seemed a bit easier to burn. Use a good fire-starter and make sure there is enough air flow so that the fire does not get smothered.

I will definitely order from Glynn Brothers again (http://www.southshoreirish.com/).

My understanding is that if you live in the Boston area, you can actually pick up your order and save the shipping. Since I live on the Navajo Nation in Northern Arizona, that's not an option for me, but for some of you, that might work out.

Sounds like everyone had a great day! Togo, have a blast today with your family! Lord bless!
