All ancient cultures had someone that interpreted dreams and visions for those that came to them. Sometimes they were right and sometimes wrong, the practice still continues today, though most are charlitans(SPEL?).

Dream interpretation is a special thing once aquired and can be a source of what is to come or is now happening in one's life. The real source of interpretation comes from within the dreamer and is only helped along by the one reading the dream/vision. Most dreams are an extension of what has recently happened in one's life, but then there are those that predict what is to come, the art comes in knowing which side of life the dream is about. There are many factors that help one interpret dreams and a life time is spent on the study of these factors and the meaning of the symbols in the dream/vision. Everyone has the powers to perform this function if willing to spend some time on deep thought and study of the symbolisms and human nature. the Shamans of old new the secrets and used them for the betterment of those around them. Real life can be enhanced by understanding dreams/visions and learnig to interpret them is self rewarding and life fulfilling.

Have you ever heard of the term "second sight" - seems to be something from the Scottish Highlands and describes a persons ability to forsee the future.

Aye I have! It is called intuition ( woman claim this for themselves ) but it is a trait that we males have also, we just need to cultivate it to use it! It is also called the "gift" in the mountains here in eastern USA. those that posses it for real are often held in awe. The future is not always so hard to predict, being aware of what is and what has been can lead one to know what will be! It has also been reffered to as the third eye! And yes I know of the band "Third Eye Blind"!

I think inuition and second sight are two different things. Scientifically we know a fair amount about intuition. I'm not sure I want to go into the whole explanation of left vs right hemisphere thinking, bio-chemistry and hormonal impacts on the corpus collosum and so forth, though. Paul may not have enough disk space or bandwidth to support it. In a nutshell, left-hemisphere thinking is linear and logical (1,2,3...., a,b,c..... 1+1=2, 2+2=4......etc.) Right hemisphere thinking is a form of parallel processing, basically skipping the intermediate steps to jump to a result (some would say 'jump to a conclusion').

Intuition is strongly affected by experience and can be developed and strengthened by nearly anyone who has an intact corpus collosum (the network of nerves that connect the two hemispheres of the brain).

The vast majority of us on this board often demonstrate that we are capable of using both hemispheres simultaneously (whole-brain thinking). How do I know that? Because typing is a left brain (linear) function while composition is right brain work.

So why would anyone consider this important enough to study? Because those who must respond to emergencies (cops, paramedics, &c) need to know how to function during an adrenalin surge. Adrenalin (aka epinephrine) blocks the transmission of nervous signals through the corpus collosum, thus effectively shutting off one half of the brain. During the first three to five minutes of any emergency, people involved become strictly intuitive thinkers and basically are incapable of linear or logical thought processes. TRAINING, the plenty of it, is required for people to respond currectly during an emergency, because they physiologically can't think their way through the problem. Training is nothing more than artificially creating the experience necessary for someone to act intuitively. <BG>

Intuition is often confused with instinct, but they are also different things. BUT, I'm not smart enough about instinct to go into it here.

Me thinks we be talkin apples and oranges here as far as the use of terms..
The intuision I refer to is not the same as you, maybe precognasence ( Spel?) is more the word I look for here!

You're probably right, Shadows. BTW, I can't spell it either. <BG>

Is that also akin to deja vu?

No! "deja vu" is the feeling or sense that a situation has happened to you before and is not a precognition (thanks RavenWing for the spelling wink.gif ) of what is about to happen.

I don't dream very often, but when I do it's a real doozy.

Last night I had my first nightmare in a few years. I dreamed I was visiting someone in the hospital and I almost died from a severe allergy attack.

I live in the Appalachian Mountains, alot of my relatives were very superstitious and believed in dreams very strongly. If you dreamed of a snake and didn't kill it...you had an enemy. When my Mom dreams of eggs, one of the females in the family is pregnant! smile.gif Thankfully, my childbearing years are behind me... biggrin.gif

Mike, maybe you were having a hard time breathing. Maybe sleep apnea! laugh.gif

Woman's intuition!!!... I'm a believer!!!!!

As opposed to "vuja de", which is the feeling you are doing something you have never done before. tongue.gif

Seriously, I have deja vu all the time. It is nothing for me to experience it on a daily basis.
