Oh I like that too - I've not heard that name before! Lovely... both the name and the idea.
Thank you very much . . . I kind of like it myself.

My real name is Lorelei, a kind of Teutonic mermaid. While looking for the celtic equivalent and rejecting Selkie (don't want to be a were-seal), Gwragedd Annwn (too much a victim, her husband strikes her!), Ceasg (closest but didn't like the pronounciation - kee ask). I came upon Corrigan, an ancient druiddess. The role of pagan scholar is one that fits me quite well.
My name means 'Welshman' in English. It's also used in Welsh to describe close friends and so on.
My real name is Hywel-Gomer.

I thought I'd push this topic to the top since we have lots of new members since anyone last responded to it. I started thinking about this because of curiosity about the meaning of one of our members name, gaberlunzie. I assumed that it was German, since Germany is were she resides, but I was wrong. Gaberlunzie is the Scottish word for beggar (so gabby, why did you pick that name?)
Why did everyone pick your screenname (handle)?
Mine is my Clan's name in Gaelic, MacEoghainn (MacEwen).

Didn't we have a newer version of this thread somewhere? Seemes like I have posted this before, and urian and gaerlunzie both described where their names came from? i'll see if I can find it...
Anywya, here is where mine came from...
Back in the old days I used to love reading fantasy novels and playing AD&D. These pursuits consumed me. Quite literally, every waking hour of every day was spent passionately working on an imaginary world I was creating for role-playing, or reading fantasy books, or playing AD&D with my circle of friends. I even carried a note pad around with me at work in case I was inspired with some new detail for my world!
I also used to love fantasy art. One of my favorite pieces was a painting of a wizard (Merlin, I think) in purple robes on a white horse. He is surrounded by a flock of owls. The painting is beautiful and done in pastel shades of pinks, purples and blues. What was the name of the painting? "Wizard of the Owls." And the artist's name was Janny Wurts. It was used as the cover of a fantasy novel centered around the King Arthur legends... "That Way Lies Camelot." I will try to attach a copy of the painting below.
When I first got my computer 6 years ago, I tried and tried to find an e-mail box name that I liked that hadn't already been taken. I couldn't find anything. Finally, out of desperation, I typed in the name wizardofowls, and surprise, surprise, it was accepted! I have a terrible memory, and trying to remember what sign-in name I used on different web groups is beyond me, so out of habit I always use wizardofowls. So now, not only do I have 2 e-mail boxes in that name, but I have also subscribed to 14 Yahoo Gaelic groups, 1 MSN Gaelic group, 2 Gaelic e-mail lists, a Gaelic forum, and this group, all under the name wizardofowls.
2 and a half years ago when I gave my heart to Christ, I felt impressed to give up all attachments having anything to do with magic and fantasy. (I was heavily involved in this stuff. I even once considered converting to Wicca, but decided against it.) I felt that as long I was still involved with this stuff it would interfere with my walk with God. The Bible says no man can serve two masters, and as long as I was throwing all of my time into this stuff, I couldn't serve God the way I should. So over the past few years I have been gradually trying to sever all ties with fantasy so that I can serve God as I feel I should. The name wizardofowls is one of the last holdouts from that time, and the change that I have been dreading the most, since getting rid of it will basically require me to start from scratch with a whole new on-line persona... new e-mail boxes, quitting and rejoining so many groups... MAJOR PAIN IN THE RUMP! So I guess I?m stuck with it for a while!

I suppose This Thread is the one you guys are referring to.
Wow, I didn't realize I was the one who started it, but I also see this particular on was started before mine, so I guess you can choose which one you want to post in.
