Celtic Radio Community > Celtic Music > Anyone Heard Of These Bands?

Posted by: Shenaniganz247 04-Sep-2009, 11:32 PM
Next weekend I get to go to the 2nd yearly area celtic festival and there are a lot of new bands playing there that I have never heard of. I have looked them up on myspace, facebook, etc and heard of them for the most part, but would like to get anyone's perspective if they've heard them live on if they're good or not.

Mickle-A-Do
Stirling Bridge
Thistledown Tinkers
Uncle Hamish and the Hooligans

I actually get to go to the whole festival this year instead of just the concert series so I get to see all the activities going on at the Sycamore Shoals Celtic Festival in Elizabethon, TN.

If anyone is around that way drop in, it's a really awesome festival.

Ive seen Uncle Hamish and the Hooligans like 12 times. They are my FAVORITE band on the celt rock scene. I have both their CD's but I hear they have a new live cd available. I'll be buying that! Their version of the theme from "the Last of the Mohicans" is the greatest yet! Go see their show(s) well worth the 5 bucks!

yes i've been hearing good things about Uncle Hamish and the Hooligans from all over here lately so i am very excited to hear them in person myself.

I'm counting the days down now and am so excited!!!!! The lighting of the Clan's torches starts friday and I always love watching the clan's walk in.

well? what did you think of Uncle Hamish?

Loved Uncle Hamish, they were very very good, did great traditional songs, and original songs, but also covered a lot of stuff and put their spin on it. They finished off all 3 sets I had seen them do with that song that Jack Black and those kids sing on School of Rock, it's a long way to the top if you wanna rock and roll or something like that.

They had great crowd sense too and joked the whole way through.

They rocked so hard during the Ceilidh that they threw the circut breaker and killed all the power in the small ampitheatre where everybody was gathered lol. quite weird sitting in a lot of darkness in the woods at 11p.m while waiting on the band to start back up.. haha

was anyone else at this festival by any chance?

Yea they ruled the roost so to speak. Sundays show was the best of all 3 though. Did you get any of thier cd's? I picked up the new live cd and it kicks butt. I'm going over to Asheville NC friday night (9-18) to see them at the Wild Wing cafe on Biltmore ave. You should come!

I did not get a cd yet, kinda spent a lot on some other things, some heraldry things and some awesome shirts but will look to get a cd from them later.

They are supposed to be in Dandrige Tn near the end of this month or next month, and we have a camper on douglas lake down there with her parents and so it'd be very easy to head down and watch them again.
