Just finished it; 12" Windlass Steelworks blade, carved boxwood grip, brass pommel.

Based upon one in The Scottish Dirk by James Forman; plate 7 on page 9; "Scottish dirk in it's earliest form...c. 1650."

It's beautiful. And I assume it's functional and not just decorative. Are you making the sheath too? And I'm curious -- I've never made any period reproduction weapons, but I know some who have -- how have you fitted the blade to the haft, and what's holding it?

It isn't edged yet; that'll be the final step (much easier to work with while it's still relatively blunt). Yes; I start the sheath tomorrow.
The blade has a full tang, which is peened over a square steel nut, as were the originals:

Beautiful handiwork! Something to be proud of, most definitely.

Very nice!!! I love handwork in a world where everything is being machined. Hope to see more of your work in the future. My coffee table is 50% carved but I haven't had time to finish it. When I get around to finishing it, I'll post the pictures.
