I always like to know how people come up with their nicknames aka usernames. It tells a little bit about our interests or who we are or would like to be.

Mine comes from my original name being Rosemary and the fact that I live in the desert of Arizona; hence, desertrose.

What about you?

I would love to have an exciting story for mine but it is kind of self explanatory! rolleyes.gif

ok. When I was a kid, there used to be these little shorts on Sesame Street. We got the same ones you did, but some where specific to Canada. There was a lot of French and Inuit stuff on our SS. Well, there was a story told by an old Native, and illustrated in traditional Native artwork, of how the Old Raven created the earth from snow, so he would have a place to land. Anyway, I would always tell this story to people when I was just a wee fellow, and was a big hit because of it. (I was always a performer)

Then, when I was about 14, while camping with a whole lot of friends, I went into character. I got the biggest black hat, with the biggest bill, and pulled it down over my face, strapped on some flippers that we were using in the river, and threw a big navy blanket over me. So I started circling the fire, telling stories, that I was making up at the time, drawing from all the drama classes I'd taken, and put on a little show. Everyone in turn got a name that night. Mine, oldraven, was the only one that ended up sticking. I've been going by that for the past............... holy shite....... ten years.

Well, I chose rogue because I am kinda the black sheep of my family (I tend to be a bit more independent/different/open-minded/liveral than they're used to) and pagan . . . . . . well, I married into that one.

Well, now I am going to confuse everyone. My username got changed to Celtic Rose because awhile back when I first signed in, I used desertrose for the reasons stated above. However, being on a Celtic site and loving all things Celtic, I wanted to have a Celtic name. So now I am CelticRose. Sorry for any confusion. unsure.gif But I like my new name! tongue.gif

Mine actually came from the Everquest namegen originally, but there is more to it than that now. When I was creating my first character, I had no clue what I was doing and let alone a clue on how to name my character, so I clicked through until I found a name for my elf that sounded good. As I played, Aaediwen developed his own character, and I liked who he became. He was me, but with some twists. He lived in another world, so he developed a slightly diffrent way of thinking. He became such a unique character and I liked him well enough to use the name for myself in many places. Later on, someone mentioned to me that the name is almost 'A New Idea' spelled backwards (don't move the first 'A'). I can't say that the name fits that concept very well given it comes from a namegen, but I like the idea anyway smile.gif

Once upon a time, I went into a little shop in the San Fernando Valley that sold antique furniture and New Age trinkets. Though I usually didn't buy jewelry, there was a little dragon done up as a sterling silver pendant that somehow called to me. Silver Dragon is on her third chain, and has led me through many adventures, both physical and spiritual, in the last 30 years...

Where now the horse and the rider? Where is the horn that was blowing?
Where is the helm and the hauberk, and the bright hair flowing?
Where is the hand on the harpstring, and the red fire glowing?
Where is the spring and the harvest and the tall corn growing?
They have passed like rain on the mountain, like a wind in the meadow
The days have gone down in the West behind the hills into shadow
Who shall gather the smoke of the dead wood burning
Or behold the flowing years from the Sea returning?

I got mine originally as a stage name. Everyone in the band at the time had a very hip name. Armnita, Alexandra, Bo , Taz. So I adopted Raven. That is all many people in Indianapolis know me as.

Now I just spell my name wrong on our web site tongue.gif

Peace

Taken from my favorite bike, a single-speed Surly. Sometimes I wish it described the pace of my life. The fact that I am a bachelor who drives too fast is mere coincidence.

Mine comes from two sources:

As I have said before I play very hard in the 18th century. It was on one of those weekends in Feb. during a winter skirmish in the woods, 10 below zero, and 10 inches of snow; that I came upon a wikieup of French and Native Americans... they never did see me as I picked them off one by one. Someone was heard saying "damn the man he walks in shadows! "

The following weekend a Native American chief and holy man named me as the "one who walks in the shadows between the worlds"... you see I am a vision seeker and shape changer... to me the name was GOOD and a given name is more to me then a choosen one.

I hope this explains.

These are some great posts here to read about all the different names.

Really, I have been calling myself MacFive for a long time. I understand that Mac means 'Son of" and my parents had Five boys. So, I guess it means "Son of Five."

Of course, then I have 3 children plus my wife and I make 5.

Hmmm, if we have another I might have to change my name to MacSix? or Seven, or Eight.....shhhhh, she does not know yet biggrin.gif

My name was blessed to me, although it didnt originate as Raven Whitefang, but as Raven Krystal. Ive had the name Raven with me pretty much all of my life because of my familiars. Whitefang came along when my hubby and I hitched up. Soon to be a real life thing for wanting to break away from things that have happened with both of our families. hmm..suppose ill have to recreate the family crest I have.. wink.gif
