Celtic Radio Community > Celtic Radio > Email-spam Important!

Posted by: Macfive 03-Jul-2003, 08:17 AM
I?d like to post some general information about email and the use of this forum. We all know how spam can ruin a perfectly good email account and we have taken many steps to protect your confidential email address. We even encrpt your password so that it is virtually impossible for someone to try to hack into your account.

One thing we can not stop is if you release your email address to someone on this board who asks for it. I think it is good practice not to release your email address and to make sure that in your control panel that you have hidden your email address. Unless you really don?t care about what gets sent to your email address.

If someone on this messageboard insists on having your email address there is another option. Have that person look up your profile in the member listing (or from any post that you have made) and have them use the ?mail to? feature of this board. This allows an email to be sent to that person without revealing your email address. A secured email form is provided for this purpose.

We have these features in place to protect your identity and to prevent people gaining your email address and possibly using it for spamming.

The reason we are posting this information is because we did have an issue recently, so please consider the suggestions here when using this board.

Our full http://www.celticradio.net/php/service_mod.php?type=privacy is now available to read. Any questions please let me know.

Thanks for the public service message, Paul!!!

If anyone wants my email address, leave me a private message. If I don't recognize your handle, I won't reply.

Perhaps I (and some unfriendlier associates) will learn of the culprit. Just a statement.

Well, it is very possible it could all be innocent and such. For example, if you happen to have a virus on your computer which you did not know about and it attack your address book it could possible reveal those email addresses to a spammer, etc.

That is one of the reasons why I don't have an address book on the comp, why I don't use outlook express and why I don't use all these things that should make windows more comfy (password saving etc)... if you have a virus this is all making your details very vulnerable... (I had one, detected it last night and worked on it until now... had to format the whole comp... *grummel*)

With all the "addressbook" attacks. I stopped using the ones that commonly come with any software. At least then if I get a virus it's just my computer and I'll deal with it .... sad.gif cool.gif

One of the nice features of our CelticRadio.net is that we do not release any information to anyone about our user accounts. In fact, you have the option of keeping your email address private. If someone wants to contact you, they are provided with a secured email form and the server takes care of the rest never releasing your email address.

Just make sure you have selected this option in your control panel.
