Just wondering if anyone has ended up with a couple tickets to this year's Tattoo on August 20-21. I have a very dear friend who has tried everything else to get a set and, of course, they are sold out thru normal channels. Obviously scalping isn't much of an option, but if they are in your possession and going begging, please kindly let me know. Yes, it's a really LONG shot, but why not at least ask....

There was a Christmas Eve many years ago, when my wife was the director of our church's children's choir. We had 3 services scheduled on Christmas Eve that year. I assisted by singing in the children's choir and also sang at the other choir. The children were to sing at the late afternoon service, then at a service in the early evening where the children and adults sang together. A third service was to start at around 11 PM with just the adults in the choir. As it would have it, I caught a cold, as so many of us do during the holidays, and I went from singing tenor to being a bass. Needless to say, by the time I was done with the last service, I was exhausted, as there wasn't enough lung intake to really make things work. Interestingly enough, when the adult choir got together, I was joined in the bass section by a lady. After the service was over, I introduced myself to her, and she responded in kind. I found out to my amazement I had been singing alongside Dale Rosington, the backup singer and wife of Gary Rosington, leader of the country rock group Lynard Skynard! Small world indeed.

The 6th Annual Jackson Hole Scottish Festival is on the Calendar for August 18th and 19th of 2006. We have a lot of fun, and it's nice and cool, but not cold, up here in the mountains just south of Yellowstone National Park and Grand Teton Park. Make room reservations NOW if you plan on coming, as they fill up very quickly.
For more information, go to www.wyohighlanders.net. Hope to see you here.

I'd have to agree with that too. Some of our best time in Scotland was when we got lost by taking a wrong turn south of Inverness on the way to the Loch Ness area. We ended up on a roadway that was one valley west of where we had intended to be, and we couldn't have been happier. It was the epitome of the 'wooded glen' and we expected fairies and nymphs and rugged highland clansmen to jump out in front of us at every turn. We just 'went with it' as the route eventually re-connected to where we were going.
Our timetable was too fast and furious, so our advice to ourselves this next trip is to go and spend a few days in a couple places, instead of tring to do a Witman's Sampler trip, where you see a lot, but never really savor any of it.
Don't forget to stop off at whisky distilleries too. Very uplifting as well.

My wife and I were in Scotland on a very fast tour for 10 days last October, and we tried to see as much as possible. We saw castles in several places. Urquart on Loch Ness is a ruin, but has ancient memories you can feel. Eillean Donan is another on the way to the Isle of Skye, partially lived-in today. Stirling Castle is a very busy place with on-going and active displays, and then there were the showpieces, Scone Palace in Perthshire and Edinburgh Castle. We also visited the Cava Cairns near Culloden, which were a bit away from the beaten path, but have a 'feel' all their own.
Yes, the roads are as narrow as a dining room table, so if you're driving (on the other side), be wary.

Great work Aaediwen, and Mac. The frustration level was growing hourly, but I knew you'd get to the bottom of the bit bucket and find the cause. Hail to the cure!

As I posted in another forum, my wife and I just returned from a 2 week trip (mad dash) though Scotland, and unfortunately, found October was nearly devoid of live music in local pubs and such.
We travelled from Edinburgh to Inverness to Oban to Tarbet, and the only thing we found was Jazz on the Royal Mile.

From those wiser than us, is there a better time to go (duh!) and if so, when and where will we find the locals whooping it up?

Yours aye,

david

Camo and canvas kilts are a mainstay for some of the military guys who also participate in Scottish Athletics. I'm a bit late on being able to see the article that started this thread, as it's no longer posted on the web, but you can find these alternative kilts at Utilikilts.com. I use a camo kilt myself for athletics, and I wear my family tartan when I compete in bagpiping.

I have many beautiful pictures, including some of the old mystical Sherwood Forest and the Major Oak. Where do I post them? How big can they be?

Thanks guys,

Our first tour was a quick one, and we now know we prefer the Highlands as a place to anchor. I'll look into your suggestions, and we'll plan our trip for a different time of year. The Royal National Mod was on in the Perthshire area while we were there, but on the day we planned to be around the area, it was mostly a craft day from the information I could gather. Nothing on the level of big entertainment. A kids thing or two on the day, and I think a football or rugby match. Too bad we'll have to go back again, eh? ;-)

Yours aye,

Actually, the countryside north of Perth toward Inverness, and all along the western coast were just like fairy lands. Cities and towns varied in their nature, but the lack of music surprised me. Gael radio was available in a few spots, but that was it. Hmmmm.

Hi all,

Just came back from 2 weeks in Scotland. Couldn't find anything Celtic or traditional...not even a piper on the side of the road. I've expected it would be a bit quiet during the "off season", but nothing remotely like what we hear on Highlander Radio, except the very high energy rock style modern, or jazz. We are planning to go again in April or May in a year or so, and will be looking for clues and such as to where the live music is hiding. Any suggestions? Ireland, perhaps?

Yours aye,

david

Sorry it took me so long to verify this. They are the same event. We had originally named the festival after our fallen friend and local police chief Dave Cameron, but due to marketing concerns, all, including his widow, thought the Jackson Hole Scottish Festival was a better name. Our proceeds after expenses DO go the Dave Cameron memorial Scholarship. Of course more is available on the web site www.wyohighlanders.net for anyone interested.
Thank so so very much for the listing. We can use all the help we can get as we grow. Coming to see us? If so, let me know!

Has anyone here seen the group Seanachie live? They are from Calgary, Alberta Canada, and their piper is Professional Medalist Ann Gray. Just wondering what kind of show they put on?

Hi Paul,
Just wondering if the recent changes I see (upcoming artistists listing is missing, and the access to the total playlist is gone) are permanent of temporary. I don't feel comfortable asking the artists I know to send things to you for inclusion unless I know if you already have them, and their permission. Just checking, and eagerly awaiting the t-shirts. Be sure to include some 'larger sizes' like 2xl and 3xl. Some of us are scottish athletes and are not 'wee folk'.

Yours aye,

david
