We have made a few changes over the past few weeks to our Avatar galleries at the suggestion of our members.

1) There is now only 1 unique avatar per member from our gallery. This will help prevent confusion when 2 active members are using the same avatar image.

2) If an avatar is currently in use, it will no longer display in the avatar gallery. This will prevent members from seeing the dreaded "avatar in use" error message over and over again.

3) Members must log in to CelticRadio.net once every 60 days to keep their avatar. If they do not log in within 60 days, then their avatar will default to the "new member" avatar.

4) Please note that some of the large avatar galleries take time to load, especially the 'Fantasy' gallery. Please allow time for the avatar galleries to load.

5) If you do not see an avatar you like, try uploading one! We can't possibly keep up with our membership numbers by providing everyone with their own avatar.

Thanks again to those that made these suggestions!

Paul-

I took the opportunity to peruse the avatar galleries. I like that one of the figure sitting at the computer banging his head on the keyboard laugh.gif ! I just have one question: is that a self-portrait biggrin.gif ?

Hi Paul !
Good idea ! laugh.gif But why is my avatar still in the gallery ? user posted image

There is a simple answer to that! There are two of them!!!

I think I duplicated it today when I was working on the avatars. I will see about removing the duplicate. biggrin.gif

We have also added additional avatars to the following galleries:

Much prefer having my own image.

Good stuff though, didn't recognise you without that awful Seen Bean pic

What about the people who currently are duplicating someone's avatar, Like VettGal and Killian? Is there going to be a check to see if there are duplicate avatars already in place? Just curious.

Thanks Paul ! biggrin.gif
You did a great job, I love the art gallerie and Lord of the rings too.
By the way your new avatar is a bit chilling, but I love it ! laugh.gif

Those that currently have the same avatar will continue until they choose a different one. If they try to switch back to their old avatar that is duplicate, the system will not let you change back unless the other person changes their avatar.

Does that make sense?

Thanks for your positive feedback.

One question, and it is a matter of performance. When you review the avatar galleries, is it kinda slow? Is it acceptable the load time?

Thanks.

It is a tad slow.

Yeah, it is very slow on some of the avatar galleries.

I just may roll back this feature because there is such a huge hit to the database and I am not sure if this is slowing down the site unneccessarily.

I love the avatars in your library Paul. Being new to the site I didn't realize your avatar was new...but I have to say it looks slightly dangerous. And that's not a bad thing at all. Your site is wonderful!

Haha, sometimes it is nice having that slightly dangerous look...eh?

I should have my picture up this summer of myself. I've dropped the beard and have a goatee now. Thinking on having a page about myself with a picture of me and my kids dressed in their Highland Dance outfits.

I like the idea of holding an Avatar for the 60 days. If they don't use it, then there is no reason why they should miss it and stopping someone else from using it. thumbs_up.gif
