A few years ago on a genealogy web site (in french) I also offer to the webmaster to do a file and give all the name and date of the family of my mom.I can go back to the beginning of the 17 century mean year 1600.I was so lucky beacuse in 1977 for a family reunion (well a long time before I was born) the person in charge did a small book will All the name of descending people from 1600 to +-1990.I just ask how the file required work it's call gedcom or something like that and they never take the time to answer after 2 e-mail.It's a very big family and it could interest a few people I guess.It's too bad .I'm also planning to add the name and date of newest people in the family and to put a bit of order on all the name .Do you know any place that could be interest by all this info?

As long as you can put all your info into the GEDCOM form, GenCircles is a good place to start. You can download your file and within 36 hours, they will show you any matches with any other files that they have in their data bank. As you come up with new names, you can update your data file but downloading your GEDCOM file again.

[URL=http://www.gencircles.com/]

The first time I loaded my file, I came up with 2 other matches. Nobody actually was blood related but connections through marriage.

There are some other sites that do the same but they charge you for the service.

I agree that GenCircles is the best place to upload your GEDCOM; I just wish to stress that the information must be in GEDCOM file form, something you may not have it in now. It sounds as if you have lots of great family information, but if it is not in a GEDCOM file format that other's can deal with, you may have a lot of work ahead of you.

You may need to download a genealogy program (their are several very good free programs I can recommend, if you wish) and begin work.

Also, consider visiting the free genealogy site: www.familysearch.org, where you may also search and post family genealogies. FamilySearch.org is operated by the Church of Jesus Christ of Later-day Saints (aka 'Mormons'), and genealogy is a major tennant of the religion. They have the most extensive collections of genealogical information on the planet. They even have a free genealogy program you can download (PAF, 'Personal Ancestral File'), but you may have to search for it. The site is free, but you'll have to register (no big deal).

You don't give your surname, but I wonder if you have thoroghly searched the web for others web sites that may include your lineage. RootwWeb.org would also be a good place to look for an e-mail list of your families surname. They have discussion lists for just about every surname in the US, the Continent or anywhere else...

Was just on GenCircles and they have just added a $30 charge per year for cross checking your data to what they have on file. Still cheap compared to other services that do the same. They claim that the expenses are rising for the web page and they have to do this. I'm sure there is much truth to this.

Just passing the info on.

Another excellent site is:www.rootschat.com; you get free web space and can upload your gedcom file on to the internet for all to browse if you wish. They also have look up
- others will look up data for you if necessary and its all free.
