Registrations for upcoming competitions are starting to open up. For anyone who is interesting in competing, www.efeis.com is a great resource for seeing what's scheduled. I've already registered in the West Virginia Feis. They don't offer a lot of competing levels for the adults, but I figure it'll be a good warm-up for the season. biggrin.gif

Is anyone else getting ready to hit the road for a Feis?

Hi. When I get out of school I would like to learn some Irish dance but I don't really know anything about the subject so far. Anyhow, what is a Feis?

clap.gif clap.gif Woo-hoo!

I did really well this past Saturday. I got 1st place in the Slip Jig, the Reel, and the Traditional Set. Then I took 3rd place in the Treble Jig (hard shoes) and the Single Jig. The treble jig was a mercy placing by the judge. There were only 4 of us, and he tied the last two, so we'd both place. laugh.gif I have to admit, I did horribly on that one. I tried a more complicated step that I was probably too sick to do well, and it was BAD! rolleyes.gif Oh well, I'll take what I can get. Next one is the Comhaltas Feis in Emitsburg, MD on Memorial Day Weekend. cool.gif

Hi there!!, Its been a while since I have been around. Glad to hear you had a great feis. As for us we are also gearing up ofr feisanna as well. We are also in the southern region but we tend to compete closer to our area. We are getting to go to Peach State, then, Georgia State, and the Augusta Classic. Hopefully Natalie will get what she needs to move up to Prizewinner thumbup.gif. This will be her first time doing a treble reel and she is sooo excited!!! Zane is anxious to do his but he still has to wait for the teachers approval sad.gif Congrats to all that went to Worlds and welcome home. Maybe we will someday meet up at the southern region Oireachtas, Dallas '05.

Sorry guys, I've been slacking on our forum here lately...time to catch up... rolleyes.gif

Well, next on the agenda is the Comhaltas Feis in Emmitsburg, MD the end of May. Then Old Dominion in June, and Nation's Capital Feis in July. I'm moving up to Novice in the Reel and Slip Jig, and hope to do the same with everything else. I bruised the ball of my right foot really bad from dancing too much last night, so I'm going to take a break from dance this week. I can't even walk on it unless I'm wearing my Nike's. unsure.gif I just have to make sure it's better by May 29th. wink.gif

Dia duit! My name is Johan Eiric and I'm an Irish dancer (Riverdance, jigs, and reels) from Sweden! I participated in a feis in Sweden, it was fun, but I haven't been dancing fer a while.

Welcome Eiric! Finally, someone else who is familiar with a Feis! biggrin.gif I've been dancing for 3 years and started when I was 25. How long have you been dancing? I was supposed to go to a Feis on May 29th, but I won't be making it. My foot is injured pretty bad and no one can figure out what's wrong with it. I found out today that it isn't broken, so that's good. I guess I'll just have to rest it...but it drives me crazy to not be able to dance! laugh.gif

I reckon the feeling, Irish stepper. Last year I was overdriven by a car ONE f*****ing bloody day before a competition and couldnae dance fer a whole month, ma leg in plaster and a' that... I have been dancing fer 4 years, but now I'm not since I have an injured leg (my Achilles tendon's the problem ye ken) . BOOHOO... Or well, I dance but I'm not allowed to participate in Feisean, and my teacher has moved back to Erin so I pretty much have to relearn a lot, or weell practice so I can do all those high kicks again.

BTW, Thank ye fer welcoming me! I think it's fun that people dance Irish dances, because in Sweden noone seems to know Irish dancing...

"Riverdance??? Wasn't that some dancers on Eurovision Song Contests for some years ago??? What kinda dance??? Oh I cannae remember..."

I have to dance to show them what Riverdance is, then they a' go wow, and ooooh...

Yeah, it's funny here. No one knows what Irish Dance is. But then I say, "have you ever seen Riverdance?" and all of a sudden they say, "you do that?!?". I think it's funny. I just smile and say nothing more and let them digest that information for awhile. laugh.gif

My Orthopedic Doctor was telling me "what you do is dangerous. You have no idea how many dancers I see". It's like I told him, it's not a matter of IF you get injured, but more like WHEN! Of course my teacher doesn't agree with that. She claims if you do it right, then you won't get injured. Yeah, whatever! Anyone can slip in their hard shoes and take a fall. Even she has done it, but she injured her shoulder rather than her legs. rolleyes.gif

The doctor said if I wanted to, he would put me on some really strong pain killers so I could compete in the upcoming Feis. I looked at him like he was crazy. My foot would still be injured, and dancing before it's healed would make it worse. I'm not that dedicated. Your body tells you when it needs a break, and ignoring it will only cause it to get back at you later. laugh.gif I'll take the time off and let it heal properly, thanks! cool.gif

I hope your leg heals soon so you can get back into dancing. You said your teacher moved away? So, will you have to join a new school?

Yupp, a school about 20 kilometres from my home... Unfortunately the school I used to go to was the only one in my local area. Maybe I should start a school for beginners, me being the teacher rolleyes.gif I think your doing the best thing when not dancing with yer injured leg, I once did that, and sweet-suffering-Jesus, was it a bad desicion. I felt as if I couldn't possibly stand on my legs for days after that....

Well Feis Season is underway again! Our family has 4 competitions lined up between now and July. I'm also in a different school this year. The school I'm with actually has a few competing adults figures teams. I'm on the 8-hand team doing "Three Tunes". I'm so excited to be a part of a school now that takes adults seriously! Anyone else competing this year? note.gif
