Celtic Radio Community > Celtic Radio > Vote Now! - Song Of The Year

Posted by: Macfive 12-Dec-2005, 08:19 PM
CelticRadio.net is proud to announce the "2005 Celtic Radio Song of the Year!"

Voting will commence immediately by all members of CelticRadio.net. Remember though that you only have 1 opportunity to vote for your selection as "Song of the Year", so think carefully before you cast your vote.

Originally we were going to have 5 selections to choose from, but there is just too much good music to only have 5! 10 Selections are available and these were determined by a number of factors.

Voting will continue past the New Year until the 1st or 2nd week of January 2006. Because our Christmas program is now playing until December 27th, we have extended the voting, so listeners can request these selections after the 27th.

I'd also like to invite any brave members that would like to "pursue" undecided listeners on their favorite selection from the above.

Ok, let the voting begin! thumbs_up.gif

The world would be a dull place were we all to like the same thing. Although I would hardly make the comparison you do (to which many here can attest), I admire a fellow who's not afraid to say what he thinks smile.gif

I'd thoucht maself all by ma lane aboot thon song! Squishy 'tis . . . I'd staun ye a wee drappie o' the best, gin I were nigh by ye, Dogshirt.

This really is hard, because a fair few of my die-hard favorites are here, including the one I nominated thumbs_up.gif . However -- amazing! -- there's a few I can't abide and I'm diving for the volume knob when they come on. So it's all to the good, and the wild variety of the company.

I'll drag myself away from the tangent black hole now...

Yeah, I've been there. It's the niftiest site! I actually printed out the entire ballad, and in period costume, declaimed for my siblings and friends. . . . I can tell you that those who didn't understand a Scottish word when they heard it, commented that there were too many 'blanks' in the story plot until I read it again to them, showing them the words they didn't understand, and explaining what the 'gibberish' really meant! tongue.gif

I voted some time back but don't think I said anything. I'm a huge Heather Dale fan, and I took time to memorize Tam Lin. But the fun of "What's Up Yours?" Beats them both out for me. I was the forst one to vote for that and wondered if I'd be alone. I guess I'm not smile.gif

It would seem that the masses would rather be spoon fed than take the time to vote. So be it! Let those that DO vote carry the day! If they can't be bothered to vote then they will live with the results.

Hi Rindy,

The picture you asked about was of my son (in the red shirt wearing the roach) and I at a powwow in Pendleton, Oregon. I have been dancing for almost 40 years and Jake since he was 3. Just one of the many facets of my life.

Ok, we are going to sweeten the pot with our "Song of the Year" voting.

First, I am here to anounce that we are going to extend the voting date until St. Patrick's day - yes, I know that is a long way off; but since we were delayed in getting the actual word about this contest out, it only seems fair.

Second, anyone that votes has the chance to win Charlie Zahm's Among the Heather CD. This is a beautiful album and all it takes is a vote. You don't even have to post a message, so exercise your democratic right! Vote Now!!!

I first heard him a few months ago when he was a featured artist on Highlander Radio. Unfortunately he is on the east coast, so the odds of seeing him in concert are slim. I hope to be able to get a couple of his CDs soon.

We will definitely consider Mothergrove for 2006. I believe that we had just received Mothergrove's CDs around the time we put this list together. It really represents musicians that have been playing on Highlander Radio throughout 2005.

I think we should give an award to StevenPD for actively promoting this contest! biggrin.gif Way to go Steve!

Now playing on Highlander Radio is the CelticRadio.net's very own StevenPD. Every 3 hours at 18 past the hour!

We are going to make the "Song of the Year" a new tradition on CelticRadio.net. The award will be a certificate mailed to the musician in recognization of this glorious achievement in Celtic Radio Gold!

A specially designed Seal will appear on this certificate which will become recognized in Celtic music history for years to come. biggrin.gif

Will post a copy of it when it is ready.

Well I obviously did something wrong because I clicked on the "More Info" button and it told me I had already voted. I never saw a 'choose one of these' page. Is anyone else having this problem? sadwalk.gif

---AutumnFire---

Posted by: talleyrand 08-Mar-2006, 03:56 PM
Pardon me for not reading the entire thread, but does the Null vote automagically disqualify you from doing a "real" vote? I thought I'd look at the results before I voted and now it says I have already voted.

And yes, the PSA prompted me to dig this thread out.

Posted by: Macfive 08-Mar-2006, 10:45 PM
I have not run across or heard this problem happening. As far as I know you should still be available to vote if you are just viewing the poll.

Now this poll does go back to November, so if you voted in it back then it will not let you vote now.

Seems to be a tightening up of the two front runners. Will see what happens this last week.

No, actually. At least I have had this problem before on other forums. If you look in to view the vote, it counts you as having voted and won't let you do it again. God knows whether it counts a particular vote in your name, though.

Please note that we could have a few surprises on St. Patrick's Day. Nothing is etched in Stone because we receive ALOT of new traffic to our site on St. Patrick's Day and I could easily see a song come from behind to win.

So, you want your favorite band to win the song of the year, make sure you gather the troops and have them VOTE.

Oh, and by the way - - if anyone on this board ever runs for political office, I would seriously consider hiring StevenPD to run your political campaign! Go Steven! thumbs_up.gif

now that we're fairly close to counting hours what time will the voting close? 11:59pm? noon? 3:28am? tongue.gif

might be best set that now if it hasn't been yet so that those of us that voted months ago can quit waiting for the final results I'm thinking.

anyway just a thought....carry on!
