I'm planning a St. David's Day dinner for a few friends this year. What are the traditional foods and customs? Cheers, Chris

Hello The best person to answer your question would be Welsh Guy, the moderator here, but he is busy in the real world at the moment, so doesn't get to check posts as often as he likes... I'm not Welsh (I'm Scottish), but I know that the tradition is still carried out in the Welsh Regiments of the British army of eating a RAW leek on St David's day! YEUCH! Love them cooked, but raw? The Welsh are famous for the quality of their hill lamb. Welsh lamb is just great. And, by March, there is always a lot of lamb in the shops here (don't know where you are based - that may not be the same for you?) Welsh mussels are also great - perhaps a starter of mussels, followed by lamb?

I do wander in occasionally Cat! St Davids day traditions? Leeks are made for wearing not eating! though a nice leek and potato soup would always go down well. Lamb always works, in fact Irish stew is based on a traditional Welsh dish called Cawl. Lava Bread (Made from Seaweed) and bacon pieces as a starter. But if you were to have a traditional Welsh St davids day, I'd say down the pub till they throw you out, then a Kebab (Courtesy of our North African Celtic Cousins)
