What were the most popular games in medieval times? Were they gory or violent, or are some of the games today based on such games from those times. interested to know

I am postive there's more people here who can name much better games. The first one that I thought of was of course sword play/ stick play.

I'm pretty sure they considered jousting tournaments a sport, they also had lots and lots of other competitions and some are still done today, some of them are: Bow, Spear throwing, Hunting competitions, sword fights (natuarally), Foot Races, Horse Races, and Wrestling, they also had forms of football/rugby, soccer (with a ball made out of a goat liver) and sometimes baseball
