Is there anyone who could recommend some good Christ-centered fiction books that don't involve romance? I am looking for something to interest my brother, to replace some books we had to get rid of. He likes detail and adventure. I want to encourage godly character. Can someone please help me? sad.gif

Check out Christian Book Distributors. They have tons of books that are fairly cheap, as well. That would probably be a good place to start. I don't have any to recommend, though they might. Frank Peretti is a good one, but your brother should be older to read those books - they deal a lot more with spiritual warfare, etc. So they are darker. But check the website out - they will have a lot of choices.

How old is your brother? The chronicles of Narnia by CS Lewis are great books.

There is a lot of Christian symbolisms in the Lord of The Rings books as well. That might take a bit of discussion to bring out the concepts of sacrifice etc...

Actually, Elspeth, those are the ones we were compelled to dispose of. I didn't really want to start a debate (when Irish tempers flare) so I didn't mention them.
My brother is nearly 17, no longer a boy, not quite a man. He said that he likes the stories in which a small band of characters joins together and withstands their foe against impossible odds. Well, if that's all he wants... I did find some books for him and will post the list here in case anyone is interested. Thanks for your suggestions. smile.gif

Endurance- by Alfred Lansing
This is an account of Sir Ernest Shackleton?s 1914-15 exploration of Antartica, one of the most astonishing feats of exploration and human courage ever recorded. This is the true story of men who intended to cross Antarctica over land and who, for five months, became castaways in the most savage region of the world after their boat was crushed by ice. How's that for adventurous?

Entebbe- by Iddo Netanyahu
A few dozen of the world?s most elite commandos were dispatched on a secret mission to attempt a daring rescue of one hundred hostages held at gunpoint by terrorists in Entebbe, Uganda. This is the tale of modern Israel?s finest hour and of Jonathan Netanyahu, the team leader, who not only inspired Israel, but the whole free world. A role model, you said?

Duncan's War- by Douglas Bond
Set on the moors of Scotland, Duncan?s War is a story of evil, danger, courage, and faith. Young Duncan M?Kethe finds himself caught in the web of Sir James Turner, the former Covenanter turned military leader of the persecutors.

King?s Arrow-
This is a sequel to Duncan's war. The author weaves the voices of Samuel Rutherford and John Knox into the historical tapestry of war, civil disobedience, rebellion, justice, a father?s love, and family devotion.

Stephen: A Soldier of the Cross
Not sure of the author. This book has been out of print for years. A blind girl and her brother, find themselves the target of desert thieves. After hearing the reports of miracles in Jerusalem, they find themselves in the midst of the greatest, most life-changing event in history, the death of Christ.

I have not read any of these yet. They came recommended, but I will let you know how they are and if anyone is interested in them, I can let you know where to find them.

I really really liked the "Left Behind" series. I would read a 400-page book in 2 days just to get to the next one. There is a tiny bit of romance, but not a lot. There is a small band of people in books 1-2 that get together to get set up for the coming of Jesus.

C.S. Lewis is a good start.
The Children's Bible. The bible is full of adventure!
