The latest computer generated path "guesstimates" now have Irene aimed at New England as it may just scrape by the North Carolina Coast on its way to Boston and points north.
Paul, you might want to "batten down the hatches".

I've been having problems connecting to the site all day. I'm not sure if it's because Paul lost power or the internet connection or problems at a server site between here and Boston (or CR.net studios and an offsite server).
Hopefully all is well with Macfive, Mrs. Macfive, and all the little Macfives!
I have been away today but in following news radio, it appears that the storm hit NY and beyond as a tropical storm. That still had a profound effect on the electric grid.
Sorry for not keeping up with the latest on this situation. Actually we retreated to the mountains of New Hampshire in a Cabin for a week with no cell phone or internet service. Came back to deal with this hurricane. Power has been out most of the day, internet is intermittent so you will definitely notice problems with our site tonight.
It was a wild day today, this was comparable to Hurricane Gloria back in the 80s back definitely not as bad as the 1938 N.E. hurricance.
I heard today that many homes had no flood insurance. In my area if you are not in a documented flood plain, none is required by the mortgage holder.
Unfortunately it is not possible to provide adequate drainage for a one time in a hundred year event.
In a flood I am familiar with the storm sewers allowed water to back up 4 ft deep in neighborhoods nearly 4 miles from the flooded rivers. Mostly new additions that had never flooded before. Drainage takes water in both directions.
