As many of you know, our broadcast license fees are up for renewal very soon. Here in the United States we need to insure that our broadcast is in compliance with the Internet Broadcasting Regulations. While very expensive, our broadcasting partner - Live365 - allows us to pay a yearly fee that covers all royalty payments, ASCAP, BMI and SESCA licenses.

Greg McPherson, of Keltic Nations, has stepped forward with a very generous offer to help us raise these license fees. We will be holding a special contest for the following product of Keltic Nations:

1 sterling silver ring with 14k gold raised borders. The 14k gold raised borders can be in, either white, yellow or red gold. Value of $250 to $275 Canadian (approximately $200 to $225 US). Shipping will be included to any destination in the world. There will be a choice between one of four rings:

Na Mara (wide or narrow version)

Daonnan (wide or narrow version)

Celtic Birds

Celtic Birds and Dogs

We will announce the winner of this beautiful Celtic ring on St. Patrick?s Day 2005. To be eligible for this special contest, all you need to do is donate at least $5(U.S.) to CelticRadio.net anytime between now and St. Patrick?s Day.

Goodluck and special thanks to Greg McPherson of Keltic Nations!

Sounds great! As soon as I can get it out to you, count me in.

Posted by: Monarch's Own 26-Jan-2005, 07:40 PM
Well that is very generous of Keltic Nations to give such a gift.

I will check in a few days in to see if I can make a donation. Still trying to pay off all the credit cards I have and that cuts budget short.

But if I can I will send some money your way!

I just wanted to mention this because I received an email from a fellow concerned webcaster about contests in general. I think we are fine for this contest because we are not a "for profit" website. Sometimes websites can run into problems having contests that require a payment or donation to be part of. Of course, we have worked very hard at making our broadcast and website a legal entity.

I think the best way to handle this is to disclose the purpose of the contest and current financial information:

Right now we are looking at renewing both our broadband and modem streams. The total price is $839. This is a yearly fee. We also incur about $151 a month in expenses as follows:

DSL/Static IP's: $65
Basic Phone: $12
Hosting Chgs: $34
3 Servers & oth
equip. Elect: $40 (estimated)

So thats about $2,651 a year in basic charges. This does not even include costs for broken hardware, software we need, upgrades, broadcast trailers, etc. which could easily amount to another $1,500 a year if not more.

As of right now, this what we have available for the license fee:

$839 Cost to Renew:
-300 current donations and fees in account
-200 estimate live365 credit
-65 google adclicks

So we hope to raise an additional $274 from this contest. Anything made over this amount will be used for our monthly expenses. At the end of the contest I will report the total raised.

As always, thanks for your support!

Mac, I wanted to send you $5 for the contest and I was going to buy a shirt. Do you need two seperate checks or can I send one with the grand total?

And sort on the same topic; the shirt I want to buy is for a friend. She is a Campbell and I was wondering if I could look at the clan badge so I know what color shirt I want to pick?

can i send my donation by mail?!! biggrin.gif

I sent my donation! Hope it helps Paul!

Posted by: Macfive 14-Feb-2005, 08:02 PM
I've been accepting donations by mail. Here is the thing though, if you send a donation by mail I am providing the equivilant in a CelticRadio founders club membership. So include your member's name.

On the broadcast renewal fees I am happy to report that we renewed our broadband stream for 1 year! Yahooo! This was the most expensive one! Thanks again for everyone that made this happen!

On the modem stream we were not able to renew this stream for 1 year. What we have done is purchased 3 months of a lower package with the reminder balance. Hopefully from now until St. Patrick's day we can raise enough to purchase a 1 year subscription. This will actually work out better for next year so we don't have to come up with both payments at the same time.

The estore is under some major construction. I am hoping by this weekend the basic design and menus will be functioning again. We will then adjust our prices and products.

We actually have Clan Badge for all Scottish Clans and Coat of Arms for Irish, Welsh, Scottish & English. Just send us an email with your details, what type of shirt you want and the family name and we will send you a preview of the design and a quote.

The price for all basic Clan Badge and Coat of arm Tshirts will be $12.95. We have also been able to reduce the shipping to 1st class with very light weight bubble envelopes.

How much more do you need for the modem stream, Paul? I want to send in some money, and was curious as to how much you need.

Thanks!

Not to make additional work, but is there a contest link to show who is in this contest?
And excellent job from Keltic Nations! Here's my belated "Thank you" for helping out like this

Only two weeks to go to St. Patrick's Day and the drawing for the ring!!!

Since this is probably the only such contest we will have like this one, I have not built a system like the CD contests. I have saved each and every donation email address and amount and as the St. Patrick's Day approaches I will try and get some numbers together about the # of donors and amount we raised. This might be good for people that want to determine the odds of winning. I can say that the number of donors is less than 40? Just to give you some odds. Certainly better than buying a scratch ticket! biggrin.gif I'm not sure if I should release the names of the people or not; but atleast I will have it handy in case there are ever any questions.

I'm thinking around 3:00 p.m. on St. Patrick's Day we will announce the winner.

Less than one week to St. Patrick's Day!! Hopefully, in the week since Paul's last posting in this thread, more have jumped on board and donated to the station. There are definitely more than 40 people enjoying the site, whether it is for the community, the music or both. Paul has put a lot of hard work into this site and continues to do so for the enjoyment of all. The financial cost to maintain the equipment and site is high for one person but spread among many, it is almost insignificant. Let's get the donations in!! All of the work that Paul puts in to the site and the results that are apparent, should be incentive enough but for those who need a little coaxing, don't forget the handcrafted ring.

Posted by: bigjimhainey 11-Mar-2005, 09:39 PM
Amen keltic. couldnt have said it better. Even though the fewer the people that donate gives me a better chance to win, mac can still use the money to make the station and the site better.

Posted by: Rindy1202 11-Mar-2005, 09:53 PM
I was thinking the same thing. Fewer people better chances for those beautiful rings well ring.
Good to see you are still here.

Only a few days and we get to hear who the winner is, yippee! But glad it is going to a good cause. Sorry more didn't participate, but more chances for me to win! tongue.gif

As promised here is an update on the Keltic Nations Ring Contest:

So far since January 26th, 2005 (the start of the contest) we have received 27 donations for a grand total of $291!!! This is definitely a record number of donations and I want to personally thank Greg McPherson of Keltic Nations and everyone that has helped with this effort.

Again, this will allow us to purchase 1 years of modem streaming services from live365 which we were only able to purchase 3 months worth in February. Anything we receive above this amount will be used to pay our monthly bills to keep everything running.

And the good news is no more donation drives until next year after this. Well, I hope that this will be the last donation drive and that we can try to figure out a way to pay our expenses! But we really really appreciate everyones support. Thankyou so much! thumbs_up.gif

By the grace of it's members, CelticRadio.net and Highlander Radio are deemed worthy to live another year and continue the mission set out 3 years ago....to spread Celtic Culture and Music to the masses......

Amen! walkman.gif thumbs_up.gif thumbs_up.gif thumbs_up.gif

This contest has certainly been exciting! I think the fact that the ring selections are so beautiful that makes it all the more interesting.

First, my personal thanks to Greg McPherson of Keltic Nations for offering this beautiful Celtic ring to help us raise funds for the station.

Unlike our automated script selection for the monthly CD contest, this contest we are doing the "old fashion" way. We have written all names (34) on a piece of paper and placed them in a jar. Since it is Killian's birthday today (my wife) she had the honors of drawing the name........

and the lucky person is:

Elieen LaMotte

Since I do not have the member names on the drawing, I am sending this name and the email address to Greg McPherson who will be in touch with you about what he needs from you about the ring.

Well, I really wish we could have a ring for each and everyone of the members that made a donation. We will include all people who donated in our other contests today.

Again, my thanks to Greg McPherson and all of the member donations. We are in good shape thanks to all of you and we hope to continue to make our website and broadcast better through out the year. Thanks for all of your support! thumbs_up.gif

congratulations Elieen you are going to get a beautiful ring. I recently had brought a ring from Greg and I love it and have gotten many complements.

Congratulations to Eileen Lamotte and thank you to all who donated to the station.

You're welcome Paul and I am just happy that I could do something to help out with the station. The amount of work that I will put into this ring is nowhere close to the amount of work that you have put into this station. Keep up the good work!!!

Looking forward to another year of a great broadcast and great friends!!!

I'm going to post a new message tonight with all of the contest winners for today. One item I did want to mention is that Eileen Lamotte is Emerald Eyewanderer!! I didn't write down the member names because most of them just had an email address and name on the donation form.

Congrats Emerald!

Thanks so much Keltic and Mac!!!

Sorry for the confusion. I donated using a credit card, and since I don't have one I used my grandmothers' (Eileen LaMotte) and gave her the cash, lol. I didn't want to say anything until I knew I could still get it, and am relieved I can! I was worried for a minute. But now just crazy, excited!!! I love the rings, they are really beautiful! Now the hard part of deciding what to get.
