“Scotland will be proud that it has gone smoke-free ahead of any other part of the UK. The smoking ban is absolutely the right way forward. It is right for Scotland, for our nation’s health, our nation’s economy and our tourist industry.” - JACK MCCONNELL

Congratulations to Scotland, tobacco is an evil killer. I am so glad Scotland has taken this step today, my next trip there will be even better!

That's even more intriugeing smile.gif I thought it interesting to watch people going outside to smoke, although I was also glad of it. However... 50' may be a tad extreme. 5' sure. And that mainly so that others can get in and out.

Amazing how much censored.gif we put up with from you non-smokers. First you pushed us into a corner of a bar...now outside (and we've been cooperative for the most part)...hell some cities I can't even sit at a park bench reading a book and have one.

Why the hell you going after me anyway and not the tobacco producers...oh I KNOW!!! They've got too many lawyers and I don't.

I think we need to start cracking down on those people with BO/too much cologne next. We'll push them outside and then 50' from the building so they don't ruffle the nose hairs of you poor innocents....

Feh....smoke 'em if you gots 'em boys..... smoke.gif smoke.gif smoke.gif

senra no need to use censored.gif

i played at a charity event in my city the begining of april. little bar... filled with smokers... i was coughing up smoke for two days afterwards. it was the worst ... i didnt stay past my set. 1hr. i am asthmatic... nobody is saying you cant smoke but it would be nice if smokers were considerate of non-smokers. personally, i dont think it is the governments buisness if a bar allows smoking or not... clubs can do things to keep down the smoke like smoke eaters... i know of one club that has two large ones installed... and that place doesnt bother me. however a establishment that allows smoking and doesnt do something to curtail the affects will not get my buisness....

yes you have a right to smoke as long as it doesnt infringe on my right not to smoke (ie second hand smoke)

then explain to me why your right not to smoke is sooooooooooooooooo much more important than my right to smoke.

When being politely approached, I am more than willing to put out my cigarette, or move to another part of the room if it bothers you that much. I'm not totally inconsiderate and understand that it bothers you.

So you tell me why is it that I don't receive the same consideration from non-smokers. When they do ask they give me either the speech about how I'm going to die an early death or I get a grunt/sigh with "the look" like I'm a Leper or something...

I think you non-smokers are entirely too chicken and can't just walk up to a person and be polite to a smoker so you have to legislate rules to kick us all outside or trap us in our homes if we want to enjoy what is a LEGAL substance.

Is it just so you can say that you've "saved us from ourselves"??

do you just like to rant senra?
what part of my post didnt you understand??

I SAID YOU CAN SMOKE!... i said the government SHOULD stay out of it.
each private establishment should make their own decision if they want to allow
smoking.

why do my rights supersede yours? because it is a HEALTH issue...

i applaud you that you are not "totally inconsiderate of non smokers"...

why dont you recieve the same consideration form non-smokers? i am sure you do
but you only remember the ones that are rude. (as i only notice the smokers that are blowing smoke all over my food at a restraunt) there are rude people on every side of every issue. that, and the fact it is a dirty disgusting habit... albiet your habit and you have every right to do with your body as you wish... and yes it will kill you it killed my sister.

and again i never said i agreed with legislating anything... have a good day. note.gif

ranting.....nah...just trying to get people to think a bit about why they feel they're always in the right. Make them think about what it is they believe makes them better than any other humanoid wandering around on this big marble.

and I understood your post perfectly...but for those others reading I need to push the envelope a little...you're cool Dundee...no worries...I'll still be buyin ya a pint when I see ya at Irish Fest. smile.gif Sorry if it feels like I'm picking on ya.

Based on your logic it's a Health Issue it makes you right and me wrong. Okay so then everyone with AIDS should all be moved to an old ghost town out in the desert because we don't want them infecting anyone else. Afterall it is a HEALTH Issue.

Ooooh. Maybe we can get all the bars in Wisconsin to close down and become a "dry" state where no alcohol is made or sold or consumed because people die of Alcoholic complications and we're nothing but a bunch of beer drinkers around here so to protect us from ourselves let's just get rid of all the Alcohol, Beer, Wine, etc. Afterall it is a HEALTH Issue.

Anyone else got a better excuse?

I don't get any consideration from non-smokers that I've seen lately...was out for St. Pats and got the "evil glares" from some at the bars. Hell it's a bar, it's still legal to smoke in those bars, and it's obvious that smoking was still allowed in the bar because it said so on the door. So why this particular lady (who was quite sober) decided to sit at the bar next to me and then whine about the smoke the entire night to her boyfriend and never said anything to me I'll never know. Address me and be civil about it is all I'm saying. I'll be more than happy to try to help you enjoy your evening out. Needless to say my friends and I moved to a table once one opened up so I didn't have to listen to the ninny at the bar constantly whining to her boyfriend.

Dirty, disgusting habit....hrm....well, to you it is...to me it's a way of life. My parents owned a tavern when I was a kid. I've been breathing in the stuff since I was a year old. My mother smokes like a chimney and always has. As a child there was no choice. I know that I have one now, and this is the only bad habit I have left...it's gonna take a while until I'm ready to give it up.

Some days I hope it kills me...will be better than dying old and lonely.

senara....my two cents worth which you can tell me to stuff it if you wish........not all non-smokers were always non-smokers you know some of us smoked before....i for one am glad i quit(there is nothing easy about quitting by-the-by)i don't wake up anymore feeling like i've got a ton of bricks on my chest and i can actually taste my food and not obliterate it with salt......

sisterknight....I must be a freak of nature or something cuz my food always tastes awesome without any salt additives...I breathe without problems...granted I'm not ready to run the olympics or anything.

And sometimes the reformed smokers are better at nagging but they do understand the life a bit better than the never smoked crowd so they're more polite about addressing someone most of the time.

There really is no need for legislating us to all ends when what would really do the trick is to make tobacco illegal. However that will be a long time coming because the Legislators love the fat checks they get from the Tobacco industry. Health Benefit or not...it always comes down to $$$$$$

Senara, sorry but you really do talk a lot of nonsense.

You speak of rights and try to compare smokers rights with non-smokers - madness!!

The smoker endangers his own health and those around him (or her).
The non-smoker endangers no one with their non-smoking - heck, as if I need to explain that!!!

Since this is a Christian forum I will say too that one who serves God has no right to pollute and destroy their own body for whom Christ died.

I have lost most of my family to smoking related diseases, tobacco costs the country billions of dollars and kills thousands each year, so don't try and justify this madness to me.

Sure, i wish the tobacco companies would all be closed down, they are evil, just legalised drug pushers, but that's not going to happen in the short term.

There are many areas in our society where I feel we are going wrong, but the banning of cancer causing toxins in the air we breath is one great advancement in this world in recent years.
There are still countries like Denmark who are behind the times, I was there last year, Copenhagen is one big ashtray, but I applaud ireland, Scotland, Tasmania and other places that have banned this blot of society.

all depends on how you define non-sense. It makes perfectly good sense to me and other people I have talked to on the subject. I can't help it if you're so closed minded to listen to an objecting viewpoint.

So I smoke...big fat hairy deal...I think it's great. I love the rush...I love the power it gives me... (It also sells me lots of swampland in Africa!) rolleyes.gif

and since this is a "Christian" forum why in Hades is there a topic about smoking bans? Wouldn't it be better housed in another area. I really see no purpose of it being here. bangin.gif

I would think that anyone that serves a Christian god would realize that people do many things to sabotage their bodies (smoking, sex, drinking, driving, sitting in front of a computer all day, etc) and it's not the body that Christ died for, but rather one's soul and salvation if I remember correctly. I don't see you taking on the rest, only a few people that are enjoying a LEGAL product. Just because one tiny little country decides to kick everyone outside to smoke you have to start calling on hell and damnation to wipe us off the face of the planet completely. Who died and made you God?

I'm sorry you've lost so many to smoking related illnesses, it really is a shame and is not something I wish upon anyone. Life is a series of choices. You either learn about your environment and how to manage it or you die. Simple as Darwin.

Yet I still don't see any government furthering your cause and taking the same battle to the alcoholic beverage industry, the auto industry, or even Microsoft for that matter just save everyone from themselves. Yes, it may cost your country tons of money to take care of those that smoke, but they also take care of the alcoholics, and those with AIDS, and those with other preventable diseases. According your your "Christian" logic, then shouldn't those other diseases that are fully preventable also deserve the same ill-will you wish upon us smokers? Why don't you berate them for a while? Or is it just the smokers you hold particular disdain for?

And I too applaud Ireland, Scotland, and Tasmania for their concerns...We tried prohibition here once and it didn't work out so well. I wish them the best. I still say that any national smoking ban will not work here in the US because our government loves all the kickbacks they get from the Tobbacco industry. Since they don't grow tobacco there in other parts of the world I suppose it would be easier for them to pass such legislation. Still a half-arsed way of going about it...but hey that's why they're the politicians and the rest of us work for a living.

I just couldn't resist this smile.gif

Good thing your parents weren't coal miners you might feel the same about coal dust tongue.gif

Seriously, I agree with Dundee, it should not be legislated but left up to the establishment. The down side is that the bars don't want to loose the smoking business. I smoked 3 packs a day for years lighting one off the end of the next. I finally quite in 1987 after 14 years.

I am not a rabid anti-smoker and don't even usually notice the smoke until after the fact. We play shows in smoke filled pubs on a regular basis and the smell lingers for days on our instruments, in our van, on our PA equipment.

But the bottom line is if I don't like it I don't have to take the show. On the other side of the coin I don't complain if I have to spend the night breathing clean air either.

The smoke impacts non-smokers a lot more than most smokers realize, but I have been on that side so I understand the myopia. I'm still a bit myopic.

my 2 pennies

Mikel

BTW both of my parents smoked also and my mother is still alive and puffing at 72 pnemonia and all. My father who quit is dead from cancer. Life is full of paradoxes smile.gif
