Here in the Northern Hemisphere we are beginning the Highland Game and Festival season. Thought this might be a good topic to discuss what games you plan on attending or musicians that you want to see.
For me, I went out to Walmart this weekend and picked up 2 of those new portable chairs and a big ol'cooler with wheels (good for those long walks from the parking lot to the actual fair grounds). Might even look for one of those tent/canopies since all 3 of our kids will be dancing this year.
I plan to attend Chicago Gaelic Park's Irish Fest this Memorial Day weekend (that's when they have it so they don't draw people away from the downtown St. Patrick's Day parade and the real St. Patrick's Day parade the next day). I know that there will also be a Highland Games sometime in August.

May the Irish hills caress you. May her lakes and rivers bless you. May the luck of the Irish enfold you. May the blessings of Saint Patrick behold you.
The Glengarry Highland Games in Maxville, Ontario on July 30 and 31; The Montreal Highland Games in Pierrefonds, Quebec on August 1; The Fergus Scottish Festival and Highland Games in Fergus, Ontario on August 13 to 15 The North Lanark Highland Games in Almonte, Ontario on August 21
We are thinking of a number of others but are undecided so far. About eight years ago, we were at a highland games or Celtic festivals every weekend from the beginning of June to the end of September. That was just a bit too much especially with a 5 month old and a 3 year old. Now with a 12 year old, an eight year old, a 3 year old and 9 month old, it is out of the question!!
Yep...will be going to several this year as usual.
And to put my shameless plug:
I believe the Rhode Island Scottish Heritage Festival is the first one of the season in New England...happening on May 22nd at the Washington County Fairgrounds in Richmond, RI. Check us out at www.riscot.org...just finished updating the event schedule on the website last night. Lots of pipe bands and lots of entertainment!
My pipe band, St. Andrew's PB of Detroit, will be going to several this year.

Hey, Keltic! I see we'll both be at Fergus. We should get together and tip a pint in the beer tent. You're one of the vendors, aren't you?
Yes we are vendors. At Fergus, we are usually located down the main strip (towards the campgrounds) with the back of our booth against the bleachers. Look for the booth with the harps at the front and blaring the best Celtic music around. It's called Keltic Nations. Hope to see you there and if I can get away from the tent, the beer tent sounds tasty!!
We have several, and you are all invited to come to all of them. I'll post dates as soon as I get them, but we participate in an Ethnic Festival at Swope Park in KCMO in August, in the Irish Festival in September at the Crown Center in KCMO, and also in September, the Irish Music Festival in nearby Weston Mo (3 days Labor Day Weekend). All are quality venues and just top notch!!
Dear Lord, lest I continue in my complacent ways, help me to remember that someone died for me today. And if there be war, help me to remember to ask and to answer "am I worth dying for?" - Eleanor Roosevelt
The ultimate result of shielding men from the effects of folly is to fill the world with fools. -- Herbert Spencer, English Philosopher (1820-1903)
Who voted 'none in my area'? Is there an area where at least one doesn't exist?
well currently there are none in my area I have to go up to Washington State, so Friends of Mine and myself are putting one together, we were hoping for this year but due to National Security we will have to wait til next year! So I will again go up to Washington & will probably go see Celeste while I am there.
