Back, in July 2009, I did a review of Jillian LaDage's album, "The Ancestry" here. If you listened to her album, and enjoyed it, then please take some time to read her message below.

________________________________________________________________

February 2, 2010

To Friends and Fans of Music Everywhere,

Out of the blue I woke up this morning thinking this:-

Can we make a difference? Can we tell the media what it is we want to hear? Can a virtual unknown Celtic singer (me, Jillian LaDage) garner the attention of a music industry, so commercially focused, in one year's time from the fans?

Of course we can! Why not?! I would not be here without you.

Is this insane? Possibly.

Here is my question to you; can you add 10 friends, family members, and acquaintances as Fans on the Jillian LaDage Facebook Fan Page and the free email mailing list via Join the Tarith Cote Community on my Official Website? Can you add 50?  100?  What about the newspaper boy, the mail man, the lady in line at the post office, your neighbor down the street? What if at years’ end this page goes from 38 fans to over 5,000? What could happen? Can you imagine? Would the media and music industry take notice? Would they hear our voice? Will you join me in an experiment that lets your voice be heard and is solely directed by you, the fans?

Tell anyone and everyone from now through December 31, 2010. Let’s show the music industry what we as consumers can do. Add your friends through Facebook with a post on my fan wall saying, "(Insert name of the friend, who referred you, here) and I am in!" Copy and paste this message to your wall, emails, letters, flyers, posters, etc.  Whatever you have your hands on, use it. Got free advertising space?  Use it! Add it to your signature. The ways are endless and let’s create our own phenomenon. One powered by friends and fans of music!

Truly Yours,
Jillian LaDage

"Hound": Cúchulainn brought to Film

Synopsis:

"When Celtic hero Cúchulainn returns home from exile the war spirit Morrigan seduces him with tragic consequences: forcing him to wage war on war itself.

Buried in the mythic ancient past lies an Ireland divided up by four tribal “nations”: the original inhabitants and three exotic new peoples swept in on successive waves of immigration in a world as much in flux as the present, co-existing in a perpetual cycle of war and truce. A clash of cultures and ideas as vital as any in our accelerated modern world, their world is over-laid by the mystic, the magical, and the realm of the spirits. Into this world is born Cúchulainn, a semi-divine hero marked out by destiny as the greatest warrior but bound for tragic glory: yet in the brutal tragedy of his life lies the seed of a united island.

When the other three nations, steered by the war spirit Morrigan and led by the malevolent Queen Maeve, invade his homeland to take the prized Brown Bull of Cooley, Cúchulainn returns home early from military training in the Land of Shadows to help his kin. He finds his people struck down by a mysterious sickness, unable to defend themselves, and is forced to make a lone stand against the invaders. Manipulated by the war spirit, Morrigan, Queen Maeve sets her sights on far more than a bull and pits Cú’s oldest friend – her best champion – against him.

Realising the futility of war after he defeats his friend Cú turns his grief stricken rage on the war spirit herself. He tragically fights fire with fire, and when that fails he chooses sacrifice over surrender. It is the only way to ensure the war spirit can never use his power against mankind again."

Film Details:

"The style and look of the film will be a mix of live action and CG animation enhanced imagery. Seeking to use visual innovations as portrayed in recent films like 300, Pan’s Labyrinth and the Lord Of The Rings trilogy, Cuchulainn will not ape these movies but will seek to use similar techniques to find a unique vision or window into the world of Celtic mythology.

The main characters will be actors while the world of ERIN will be created digitally, where actual locations do not offer the look or space needed.

The intent is to bring to the screen a seamless marriage of reality and dreams so authentic that we do not question the place, but instead revel in the romance, adventure and vitality of its story and characters."

QUOTE (Antwn @ 01-Aug-2009, 07:28 PM)
Problem is, there's no one to talk to in the US in a Celtic language. I've studied Welsh for about 5 years and can read and write it well, but my speaking skills are woefully inadequate. Would be nice to sit down have a beer and speak Welsh with some folks - but right now the only way I can do that is on line with message boards (like the one here before it died) email lists and blogs. All reading in Welsh on line is one way.

Have you tried finding a Welsh forum (for students) that also has Skype gatherings? Fōram na Gāidhlig
often have get togethers on Skype to practice speaking skills. I am sure there is a Welsh equivalent out there, as they have far more resources than us Scots Gaelic speakers.

The Celtic language has been termed extinct. Just don't say that to the band of language activists who are pulling out all the media stops to raise enthusiasm for the ancient tongue.

Read the article at The Chicago Tribune.

I've drafted a blog in relation to the behaviour of guests, but I want to do some research into the ancient/historical expectations placed upon guests.

I am searching for references, either in source texts in literature, myths[?], or historical accounts of the expectations of a guest. I've searched Fergus Kelly's "A Guide to Early Irish Law" and there is only reference to the host's duties. His bibliography gave no further guidance in relation to guests. I have been given vague references of a story being required from guests (in a time when news travelled slowly) but, again, no reference was give to source materials.

So, anyone think of anything that may help?

A friend of mine is a pagan/wiccan/witch ... it's monotheistic whereas I'd assumed it was a polytheistic religion.

I am a non-wiccan witch, who is pagan and polytheistic. Pagans can range from agnostic to polytheistic.

RTE changes ‘grammatically wrong’ name after 43 years

The national broadcaster has changed its name from Radio Telefis Eireann to Raidio Teilifis Eireann after 43 years. Please do not adjust your set.

RTE has just changed its official title, 43 years after first being named. The broadcaster, formerly known as Radio Telefis Eireann, has altered its name to Raidio Teilifis Eireann after discovering that the original was grammatically incorrect, the organisation said this weekend. Staff have received a memo alerting them to the name change.

The public service broadcaster, which estimates that its revenue will fall short of its operating costs by ¤68m this year, is now planning to alter all official documentation following its renaming. A spokeswoman said that costs associated with the project will be minimal.

Men are needed for DNA tests to prove their distant ancestors moved from the Mediterranean to north west Wales as migrant workers 4,000 years ago.

Participants will be asked for a cheek swab sample for genetic analysis.

Researchers at the University of Sheffield hope to link the migration of men in the Bronze Age to the discovery of copper.

The metal was found at both Parys Mountain on Anglesey, and on the Great Orme at Llandudno, Conwy.

The researchers are building on previous work carried out in the area which found a much higher-than-average presence of a DNA marker that is commonly found in people from the Balkans and Spain.

Men for the current project need to be born in the area, and come from the same area as their paternal grandfather (their father's father).

"The more men we get the better as the previous work involved only a handful of people. Really we need figures into the hundreds," said Dr Bob Johnston, from the research team.

'Distinctive'

The DNA sample will involve wiping the inside of the mouth with a sterile cotton bud and sending this back to the laboratory.

All the samples will be anonymous.

"If it does turn out that there is a distinctive genetic signature we can find where they came from, and if it is genuinely from the Mediterranean we can find when they got here," said Dr Johnston.

"After finding when the workers came here the researchers will then be able to discover what skills they bought with them," he added.

Despite the evidence still being traceable it is unlikely that the population in north west Wales will look Mediterranean however.

"It was probably only a small number, and it was 4,000 years ago, so the actual physical looks is not there any more," said Dr Johnson.

Parys Mountain is one of only three sites in Wales which have evidence of copper mining during the Bronze and Roman Ages.

Do you want the Gaelic version or Sting's version he did with the Chieftans? Sting's is mostly in English except for the chorus. I believe I came across another version on You Tube. You might try there and see if there's an album listed as its source. Great song.

I want the Una Palliser version. wink.gif

I have tried contacting her through Youtube, with no response. I am unable to register with social networking sites, such as myspace, facebook, etc. (work computer)

Does anyone know where I might find a copy of this music for my iPod? An album to purchase, a single, a downloadable file, anything?

Myself, and a friend, are trying to find a copy and have exhausted our internet searches. My friend originally had the live version, but this was accidentally destroyed, so a replacement is sought.

Any help gratefully received.

I was wondering if anyone else here enjoyed the music of Culann's Hounds#? I first heard them on the Celtic Myth Podshow and I have been enjoying their foot-stomping fun music ever since.

If you've not heard them before, I can highly recommend the music of Culann's Hounds#.

Malcolm Jones, guitarist with the band Runrig, is seriously ill in hospital after collapsing at Waverley rail station in Edinburgh on Sunday.

It is understood he had been playing with band-mate Iain Bayne on the Black Isle north of Inverness and had been returning to his home in Fife.

A spokesman for Runrig confirmed that he had been taken ill and said they wished him a speedy recovery.

The band's tour of Germany, Austria and Switzerland has been cancelled.

A statement on the band's official website said: "We regret to announce that guitarist Malcolm Jones has been taken ill and as a result we have been forced to cancel the forthcoming tour of Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

"We are deeply sorry for the short notice and obvious inconvenience that this will cause. Ticket holders should contact their vendor for refunds.

"We will give you more information as soon as possible. However, in the meantime we are sure you will join us in wishing Malcolm a speedy recovery."
