gallon? I thought this would be a interesting thing. A city 2 hours away it costs $1.61 for unleaded. Why do we pay more??

It cost us $1.89 for unleaded

Posted by: MDF3530 12-Feb-2005, 05:08 PM
At the Citgo station I went to today in Joliet, Illinois at I-80 & Briggs St., regular unleaded was $1.90/gallon.

As an added bonus, the bathroom was permanently shut down, so I had to go to the McDonalds at the next exit sad.gif .

Regular about $1.95 per gallon

Posted by: maggiemahone1 12-Feb-2005, 09:37 PM
Rindy, here we're paying the same price as you, $1.89 who know's what it might be tomorrow. It's up and down constantly here. I do wish it would go down and stay down. I guess just wishful thinking! unsure.gif

Up here in Alberta our gas is in litres instead of gallons. Our regular gas is 77.9 and propane is 42.9. My truck has both gas and propane and it's way cheaper to fill with propane! wink.gif

It's about $1.84 here, and seems to be going down.

Posted by: Rindy 16-May-2007, 08:37 AM
We are paying $3.09 right now. I am so glad I have a economy car.. How much are you paying? What would you do to save gas?

$2.89 here in Rochester, NY, when I filled up the day before yesterday. I bicycle to work whenever practicable.

Posted by: Aaediwen 16-May-2007, 04:08 PM
Still $2.96 in Richmond, but it won't be there much longer. I'm told it's at $3.18 in Lexington today. I'm so glad for my 35-40Mpg Even with that, the 25mi trip to and from work is costing an arm and a leg. I'll be pawning a kidney soon I think, just to get to work.

$3.39 here in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. Have to put in those transportation costs ya know.

I was looking at 3.199 just the other day and have recently got a job closer to home with that in the back of my mind and lately have taken to walking the 1.2 miles to work. Previously we were using about 27 gallons a week now we are down to less than 8 it really makes a difference.

Posted by: valpal 59 17-May-2007, 08:07 AM
We are now up to 3.259. sad.gif

Posted by: Monarchs Own 17-May-2007, 11:19 AM
we pay here around $ 3.20 or so. It changes weekly and since I don't drive by the gasstation unless I have to I don't get to see it very often. LOL

But it goes up here about every Friday at midnight since we have an Aafes Gas station. They change from change of once a month to now once a week. So now it goes up much quicker. And they make a profit of about 83 cents per gallon.

$3.49 here in the Milwaukee, WI area today. Guess I was a little early in my Memorial Day $3.50 prediction...I'm guessing close to $4.25 by July 4th.

Re-started carpooling with one of the ladies here at work. Unfortunately no one else wants to join in....

Got the following e-mail from my son in California a few days ago.

I went to Yosemite for the first time on Wednesday. The last gas station on this side of the park had regular unleaded for $4.39 a gallon. That is a dollar more than gas stations just ten miles before it. I guess they don't know I'm cheap enough to turn around.

Posted by: MDF3530 22-May-2007, 03:33 PM
At the two gas stations by my apartment, a Marathon and a Citgo, gas was $3.55/gallon.

BTW, the lowest price my mom and I saw when we were in Iowa was $3.15 at a Pilot station in suburban Des Moines.

Posted by: Nova Scotian 22-May-2007, 08:01 PM

Tuesday morning (5/22), it was 3.17. By that evening it was 3.49!!!!

Has anyone been trying to change their driving habits?
I really can not. I have a 40 mile drive to work, one way. Maybe I need to buy a hybrid.

What are some other ways to deal with these high gas prices?

Posted by: Sekhmet 23-May-2007, 10:05 PM
Gas is currently at $3.05. And I'm afraid to ask what it's gonna be like after Memorial Day.

In northern Illinois we are paying $3.59 a gallon. In Chicago it is $4.00 or more.

Posted by: Líadan Siofra 04-Jun-2007, 03:53 PM
In Idaho, we're paying $3.22...of course, I haven't seen prices for a couple of days, so it could have gone up. lol

Unfortunately, there's not much I can do to save on gas. I drive about 30 miles to and from school every day, and I don't know of anyone I could carpool with. I'm hoping I'll be able to trade cars with my dad soon- I'm driving a Kia Sportage, and he has a 2-door Ford Aspire that gets better mileage.

Posted by: Aaediwen 04-Jun-2007, 04:04 PM
$3.11 bright and early this morning, which dropped to $3.09 as I was gassing up (fortunately they had already changed the pumps before I started. They were changing teh sign as I pulled out)

I saw $3.08 across town as I came home this evening.

And actually there is an article in the Reader's Digest this month about people going to work on horse back. The only problem they had was where to put the horse downtown?????

Posted by: Rindy 31-Mar-2008, 06:05 PM
I have owned a horse, and found that it was very costly. My sister has 5 now so x the costs x 5- whew....lol.

Don’t know if you folks were serious about buying a horse or not...but thought I would add this....

Horses...well the cost can add up. They need Food, Stable/Boarding if you don’t own the land, Vet bills, Bedding/Shaving, Tac such as Saddle, warming blanket, blanket, bridal, bit.

Horses should eat ½ bale 20 lbs a day which of course can increase or decrease depending on the horses size and if the horse has grazing pastures. Say the standard half a bale your looking at 183 bales of hay a year. The cost will very depending on where you live but say it’s $2.50 that comes to $457.00
Horses also need to eat grain. How are you going to transport the hay to your horse? Fuel prices going up also makes the cost of hay to go up...

If your horse is ill and can’t walk to the vet here comes the catch unless the vet comes out, you will need to transport your horse which means big truck-eats gas and a trailer. Costs and more costs.
Plus-you ride out in the open say to town you have to have warm clothes etc, as a car has windows, heater...ahhh

I'm sure I have left a ton out. Not sure which would be better a horse or a hybrid car.
ok...just my opinion. Interesting thought though.

The downside of a car is it can’t love ya back..that I know of..lol...

ok, sorry to carry on about horses....you really got me thinking on this one.. thumbs_up.gif

Gas is $3.19 a gallon here. I heard prices may be going down some I do hope so..

4019 American dead, 40,229 American wounded, and perhaps 1 million Iraqi dead and perhaps half a million refugees, but nobody knows for sure. As our fearless leader has repeatedly said, Iraqis don't count.

Meanwhile, American oil companies received $18 billion in tax subsidies last year while their profits hit $123 billion; the highest recorded corporate profits in history.

Think about that the next time you fill up your SUV.

It's up to $3.49 at the QT and I saw $3.54 at one of the name-brand stations. I'm trying to be good about filling up when I have half a tank (something my dad's been trying to get me to do since I started driving back in the dark ages when gas was about 30cents a gallon).

Seriously, a girlfriend and I were reminiscing about gas being 32 cents a gallon at the Hess station in Stone Mountain. Remember gas wars? My dad said when he was young he remembers one station selling at 10 gallons for a dollar! I also remember those gas lines out in California and people beating up folks who cut in line or went there just to top off. Was that the early 80's or late 70's? I'm thinking late 70's - perhaps about 79.

We have a fork lift manufacturer who is manufacturing "on demand" hydrogeon extracters for their fork lifts. Making them by hand cost's about $100.00 per unit. The catch is, the water freezes in cold climates and thus they are impractical in many areas and seasons. The fork lifts would be used in factory settings.

I am considering looking into it at least on a part time basis.

Here is the article I saw. It was in another forum which didn't have a link to it's source.

Massive Oil Deposit Could Increase US reserves by 10x
America is sitting on top of a super massive 200 billion barrel Oil Field that could potentially make America Energy Independent and until now has largely gone unnoticed. Thanks to new technology the Bakken Formation in North Dakota could boost America’s Oil reserves by an incredible 10 times, giving western economies the trump card against OPEC’s short squeeze on oil supply and making Iranian and Venezuelan threats of disrupted supply irrelevant.

In the next 30 days the USGS (U.S. Geological Survey) will release a new report giving an accurate resource assessment of the Bakken Oil Formation that covers North Dakota and portions of South Dakota and Montana. With new horizontal drilling technology it is believed that from 175 to 500 billion barrels of recoverable oil are held in this 200,000 square mile reserve that was initially discovered in 1951. The USGS did an initial study back in 1999 that estimated 400 billion recoverable barrels were present but with prices bottoming out at $10 a barrel back then the report was dismissed because of the higher cost of horizontal drilling techniques that would be needed, estimated at $20-$40 a barrel.

It was not until 2007, when EOG Resources of Texas started a frenzy when they drilled a single well in Parshal N.D. that is expected to yield 700,000 barrels of oil that real excitement and money started to flow in North Dakota. Marathon Oil is investing $1.5 billion and drilling 300 new wells in what is expected to be one of the greatest booms in Oil discovery since Oil was discovered in Saudi Arabia in 1938.

The US imported about 14 million barrels of Oil per day in 2007 , which means US consumers sent about $340 Billion Dollars over seas building palaces in Dubai and propping up unfriendly regimes around the World, if 200 billion barrels of oil at $90 a barrel are recovered in the high plains the added wealth to the US economy would be $18 Trillion Dollars which would go a long way in stabilizing the US trade deficit and could cut the cost of oil in half in the long run.

Posted by: Patch 28-Apr-2008, 06:48 PM
I would be suprised if our oil companies didnt maintain the high prices. They are now pegging retail prices on the futures market for crude. To my knowledge the actual price has always been less when time to deliver came.

Remember the two tiered pricing of "old and New" oil years ago. On paper old oil crossed into Mexico and came back as new oil to be sold at the higher allowed price. The bush family made a fortune on it as did others!

The other day I saw on a talk show that crude oil was likely to hit $200 a barrel in the next 8 or 9 months. That day the spot price was $120 a barrel and gasoline was $3.56 as I recall. That extra $80 could jump gasoline to $5.00 a gal. or more. A week earlier I had gotten two e-mails from my Daughter. One pictured a very long and high building in Saudi Arabia. Inside was a refrigerated Ski slope with with lift chairs!! The other looked like a high end hotel. It had dozens of bath rooms, many bedrooms, marble walls/floors and gold fixtures. There was a fleet of about 15 or 16 white Bentleys. There was one silver sports car. Not painted but REAL silver. This was the home of ONE Oil Sheik and his family. I guess we should feel honored to be able to help them live like in that manner.

There is a book (out of publication) that explains the Fed and though it was written in the 80's it explains why we are in this mess today. It was still available 6 mos ago and I would guess it is on e-bay. It is titled, "The Creature from Jekyl Island.

The gas station at the corner of my street went up to $3.69 but two miles down the road the QT has it for $3.58. What do you bet QT goes up ten cents by tomorrow evening?

Posted by: valpal 59 12-May-2008, 08:27 AM
Down to 3.72 this morning.

I passed the QT this morning and it was up to $3.68 with the Chevron across the street at $3.74. I guess I'm going to have to start traveling with my eldest son just in case I don't have enough money to fill up one day and they ask for my oldest male child as collateral on a gas loan.

Posted by: Patch 13-May-2008, 10:12 AM
$3.80 but there is panic buying. Some stations have run out. This means over 4 dollar gas.

I noticed that the QT went up to $3.75 today and the stations at the end of my street are still at $3.69. That's unusual because that station is usually less expensive.

I'm sure by the time I go for gas tomorrow, it will be up another nickel or so.

I had to fill up this morning and it was $3.75. $40.00 for my little Altima. I just love it when the news says that oil has gone up $.20 a barrel and we see a jump of $.20 a gallon in a two-week period. Yeah - like that really computes.

My first car was a 1954 Buick Roadmaster hard top. Were it not for gas wars, I could not have driven it. I remember buying regular gas in 1958 for twelve cents a gallon. Usually it was thirteen to fifteen cents a gallon. I haven't checked todays price yet.

We hit $4.00 a gallon today! Many years ago I lived in South West Colorado. The natural gas wells on the mesa had tanks that collected the "drip gas". You could tell who was stealing the gas because their auto exhaust smelled bad and it sounded like they had a can of marbles under the hood. I would bet that LaPlata Gas has to guard the tanks now.

Ripple effect as everything is transported by tractor-trailer. I guess the worst effect is food prices. Our auto industry is really hurting as sales in the States for gas guzzlers and pick-ups decline. Jobes are disappearing in all the manufacturing sectors. There is talk that Ontario will end up a have not Province if this last much longer. Alberta and Saskatchewan are doing great with there oil fields and Tar Sands and Potash.,

I live in what is known as the "Rust Belt". We didn't need anything to "upset our basket of apples!" I watched a little of the coverage of the Oil Execs testifying about their "excess profits" and the high prices. They said they were putting the money into exploration. With the part time photography business I had/have, if I put a portion of the profits into expanding the business, it is no longer profit. No matter how you cut it, they are stupid. Either they think we will believe the exploration story, or they are not smart enough to know how to file their taxes.

For years, my dad used to tell me to make sure I filled up when I hit the half-way mark. Of course, I never did. But now, I am trying to be better about it since the sticker shock of filling up when it gets down low is enough to send anyone into heart palpitations.

It had has 3.97 here for regular. $4.20 for high test

We need to get our do nothing Congress to get back to their senses and let us drill off the coasts and in Alaska. The technology has come a long way to protect the environment. We need to upgrade and build more refineries. Nuclear power plants, wind generation, and other means of generating power must be developed and put into use.

If not, $7.00 gas will be something we wished the price would drop back to. The fuel costs have already driven up the cost of everything, and is causing food problems and shortages world wide.
