My opinions on this ordeal are so political, I'm sure any comment I make will either close the thread or have it moved. I'll keep it to myself.

I'll just say this. In two years they are going to close our Elementary School and send the kids over to the High School, which will have zero renovations to separate the students. Primary to Twelve (Kindergarten to Senior) in one small rural school, with one already too small Gymnasium, one Cafeteria, and ONE LOCKER ROOM per gender! The Elementary was already a consolidation of four or five other small rural schools when I was sent there for Grade Six, in 1990. It was thoroughly renovated at the time, with a brand new state of the art Gym and a new Cafeteria. We were told then 'this will never happen again'.

Aren't we lucky to have $1.3B spent on a handful of people who already make way too much money on our dime? We're serfs, and not only do we all know this, but we all accept it.

How times have changed. I was once banned for linking a story about a new electronic stimulation device implanted beneath the skin of women in tests, to do pretty much the same thing Viagra does. And it was here in the General forum.

Awesome. I never liked the Flyers, especially this year (I'm a Habs guy). I've liked the Blackhawks since Eddie Belfour's days, and got to see them play Edmonton a few years back (my one and only NHL game).

Ange and I just watched the movie 'Leap Year', and I had to come to this thread and read a few of these omens to her. They mention the Cat and the journey at the beginning. People are constantly telling the couple that they can't do this, or do that, because it's bad luck.

This is all very odd. I've yet to have any java issues. A few sites wouldn't load specific frames on FF2, but not with FF3.

Oh, hey Rindy. Thanks for saying so. smile.gif And I'm loving that bass. After setting it up, I realised how bad my Jazz was, and went to work on that about a week ago. It's like playing a new unit. Jamming at my place is awesome for me, because I can just switch up depending on the song.

We've got a few more that were taken in daylight, but I have a stack of empties (that have been accumulating in my shop for about a year) behind John, so I'm not sure if it's actually appropriate to post. I'll have to transfer them to the shed for now, or just cash them in.

If seeing empty beer bottles littering a messy shop wouldn't be disturbing for the CR folks, I'll post them. I'll have to get some of my siblings and me playing some Stan Rogers or other folk tunes up here, to somewhat gel with the Celtic vibe. I know these blues/rock tunes don't, exactly.

I've been jamming with these local guys for about a year now. I decided to take some video with our little Canon Powershot last weekend, and this is how it turned out. It all takes place in Jay's little shed, which we just barely fit into, considering Josh's full drum kit.

**Warning***

If you don't listen with headphones, or a PC audio system with a subwoofer, you will only hear the two guitars and some cymbals. Please be kind to the Bassist and Drummer and wear headphones. wink.gif

Jay (maple Les Paul, lead guitar line, solo, occasional vocals)
John (red sunburst Les Paul, blue SG, rhythm guitar, solo, most of the vocals) [these two guys switch roles for different songs]
Josh (he's our mountain-man Drummer, and I have no idea what kind of drums he plays)
myself (tobacco sunburst Fender Jazz, flaming Highland Thunder Chief SHB, Bass)

This is a jam, so it's pretty loose. I apologise for some of the sloppy parts, but we usually just wing the last of every song, so we can play around and do our own stuff. And we had a few beverages by that point.

I do hope you don't make this permanent, Camac, but I support you taking your leave. I did the same thing, for the same reasons, over a year ago, and coming back to this site I got to see it in a new light. When you don't enter the Politics forum, this is an incredible community. They're the only words I read on here that make me frown (if not for the personal grief some members unburden themselves with from time to time). A pox on the politics, eh? wink.gif I'm not leaving CR again, but I'm taking my own advice that I gave you and leaving that forum for good.

Come back for the people, stay because of the ones you avoid. tongue.gif

QUOTE (Nova Scotian @ 03-Apr-2010, 06:28 AM)
QUOTE (oldraven @ 01-Apr-2010, 10:04 PM)
Ok. So you are then trying to say that your current administration is capable of annexing Canada for its resources, but the last one wasn't? And if this government was impeached, the next wouldn't be just as capable? What's your point? What's your goal, with this threat? Is this before or after they turn the entire US into a Socialist Republic? Has the big bad black man started growing his horns yet? Get a grip is right.

You are saying the US of the past, the one you ally yourself with (and you can't deny that), is perfectly capable of justifying taking over Canada for its resources. So which is it, Patch? Do you want to see this old US come back, the one capable of committing those atrocities, or are you distancing yourself from the old US' 'Manifest Destiny'? Is the Obama government about to fall back into the old ways of the US history, or is it leaving it behind? I find it hard to see what you're getting at here. Unless, of course, you're just some old troll who likes to cause a controversy. Come on, man. You opened the can of worms. I'm the left, most of the time (politics in Canada isn't so ridiculously polar that we can't see the errors of those we voted for last time), and this is a moment where if we were to meet face to face, it may have already turned violent. That's the Canadian in me, not the 'lefty' or 'liberal'.

Politics and Religion are far different. You never hear nasty talk like this in the grove, or any other religious threads on this site. It gets truly ugly in here, and if things ever got this hot elsewhere in the community, it would be shut down, and those involved would either be warned or booted.

I'm courious. Who ever said the USA will annex Canada? I never did. I'd NEVER want to see it happen. There are those in Canada and the USA who would like to see a European type union which I'm VERY opposed to. Then there are those who think Canada should join up with the EU. As far as invasion? I've NEVER heard any such thing. Like I said before. The USA is the USA and Canada is Canada. LEAVE IT AS IT IS!

Nova Scotian, none of what I said there was directed at you. I think I quoted Patch. My answer to you was earlier on, and there were no hard feelings anywhere in it.

Left and Right mean nothing to me in this thread. My responses were about a justification for invasion. Yes, the fringe groups are definitely the worst of politics on both sides. As far as the incident on topic, Code Pink sounds like just another extremist group who lets goals get in the way of sense.

I think it's pretty pointless and pathetic to join in a 'discussion' on politics if you have no interest in discussing politics, only preaching and arguing over it. Picking responses apart for the sake of opposition is exactly why our governments can't get anything done, and seem to all the world to lack common sense. Leave that to the parties. That's how the business of politics are run 'on the floor'. We should be above that. What's the point of a political platform if no one is going to listen to it? I'm more like CSM, myself. I know that when an election begins, I honestly don't know who I'm going to vote for, and so far have only voted for the same party twice. Never let your politicians make up your mind for you. Your best interests are the last thing they have in mind, no matter what side of the hall they sit on.

QUOTE (Patch @ 01-Apr-2010, 08:24 PM)
If you read the posts, I covered that.

Slàinte,

Patch

Your posts in this thread? I did read them. If they're in other threads, I'm not interested in scouring this cesspool forum to find out what I just clearly asked you and you could just as easily answer in clear terms. The replies here elude that the current government, that you are throwing Tea Parties in defiance of, is capable of invading Canada and Mexico for their resources. What's your solution? Bring in another government that is just as capable (and viewing its recent history, far more probable)?

It's a non-point. It's fearmongering to the highest degree. You are a troll, and you have no interest in hearing any other viewpoint than your own. I've yet to see you ever say something to the effect of "You've got a point there."

There was a vote. Many of the initiatives that you've seen happen over the last year were clearly stated in the winner's platform. They won. Live with it! That's politics. Nothing that has happened since should have been a surprise to you. Then again, when you never listen to the opposing view, maybe it is a surprise.

Compromise is listening to the opposing view, CONSIDERING IT, then replying in kind. You can not achieve this when all you do is search for something spoken to argue with. You can't reach a compromise without finding a middle ground, and from what I've seen of American politics, there's no such thing. That's for the Democrats too.

Oh, I'm positive this is something that would never happen, in any of our lifetimes. I simply can't abide anyone who thinks they could ever justify it, though.

As far as politicians doing such a thing to preserve their government, it's just as you say, CSM. Any US government would know it was complete political suicide to try, therefore it won't happen, and he's just bringing up the scenario because he's FORKING (thanks Dogshirt wink.gif ) lost his mind completely. I can respect a differing opinion, and welcome it. This all just crosses my line.

Nova Scotian, the good thing for you, then, is Canadians have no interest in crossing your border in that capacity. I've never met a Canadian who ever once spoke of invading the US. I've met a LOT who have spoken about keeping the US out, though.

I have heard a sad number of Americans say, thought jokingly, that they could 'take Canada so easy, if we wanted to'. Today is the first time I've heard one say that they did, or would.

I left this forum because of all the topics I commented on in this community, it was only these that left me angry and depressed. Maybe you should step out for a bit. My time here since has been wholly pleasant, up until this moment.

I'm not a violent man, but I'm not a pacifist. If you, personally, stepped across our border with the intent to take the Nation, I would shoot you cold myself, and not feel a moments remorse. We're no cowards. Just not eager to kill.

You are officially the .... GAH! bloody (damn TOS violation) enemy. The blatant fact that we shamelessly supply your nation with so very much of our resources isn't enough, now you feel that if we say no you have the right to take it? That's a militant empire, man. Make no mistakes. The US was NOT founded on that philosophy, and you're lying to yourself if you believe it was.

We are a SOVEREIGN nation. End of story. Stay in your sandbox and we'll play good neighbours. If you think our military might is a joke, just try and step over the border and see how fast millions of able bodied citizens take up arms for their country against you. We have no sizeable military now, because most Canadians don't think there's any real reason to take up arms. The United States COULDN'T annex Canada if they tried, knowing the reality of the Commonwealth, and most of Europe, who have their own debts to cash in on that front, and I'm sure I'm not the only person in this world who would really enjoy seeing some humility on Uncle Sam's face for once. You would fail, and you would be occupied, just like some other Militant superpower we all remember from back in the day. And the saddest part is, you don't even see that right now, your too-proud nation is teetering on the bloody BRINK! Just turn on the news to see how much the citizens are just waiting to go into complete revolt.... against itself. You've got enough problems without making enemies of your friends.

Try and you will DEFINITELY fail! The US would be the laughing stock of the planet for a century.

Patch, you are an extremist, and I'm not trying to score points here! Saying that brings me no pleasure. From here on, I don't know you, and don't wish to.

What comments were they? I thought she did a pretty good job of appealing to a friend than shaking a fist at the skinny kid. It's also nice that they aren't asking that we commit to any further combat, just help rebuild and train. If you ask me, that's exactly what most Canadians want our troops to be doing over there.

That said, my views on the Afghan mission have been changing a lot lately. I guess the easiest way to put it is this. If you want to know why the Taliban should be defeated, ask a Afghan-Canadian/American woman.

... along with your recent comments about annexing Canada for the resources.

ummmm.... what? Could you provide me with a link to that? I'd seriously like to see it with my own eyes.

If that is in fact the case, Patch, you have lost every last speck of credibility I've ever offered you. Not to mention respect. No friend of mine.

This is my first post in the politics forum for about a year and a half. I left because this forum has become a blight on this entire community, and now I'm seeing further proof of that. I'd say I'm disappointed, but who would I be kidding.

I will return to this thread in hopes that you do provide the appropriate link.

WOW!!

When I saw "new toy" I was sure it was either a camera or a car . . .

laugh.gif hahahah

You know me well. And thanks. I managed to get the action properly set myself, and it's smooth as glass to play now.

The hard part now is keeping my mouth shut for another week. I brought my oldest brother Jimmie (the guitar player) along for the trip to Halifax to pick it up, but my plan is to wait until our next family jam at Mum and Dad's place (it's their turn) to show it to everybody else. My other brother Troy plays bass as well, though he's more of a rhythm guitar/lead singer when it comes to the folk stuff. But it's really my Dad I can't wait to show it to. He's the reason I pick a bass line over my rhythm guitar. Back in the 70's, he was the bassist in a country/gospel band, and even though he never taught me to play the bass, I remember his chops, and they come out in my own playing from time to time. He still has his black on black Fender Mustang, sitting untouched since my teens in its case. It's going to knock his socks off! wink.gif

When they ask about my Jazz (each of us got a musical instrument when we graduated, Jimmie a Fender Stratocaster, Troy a 12 channel Peavey mixer/amp [he used to DJ], me my Fender Jazz, and Ivy her compass series Yamaha acoustic), I'm going to tell them, "Well, I can only play one bass at a time, so I traded it in." About three seconds later I'll tell them I'm joking, because Mum will instantly be in tears. For now, I just have to keep my mouth shut. It's like holding in the loudest fart of your life. tongue.gif

I've never gotten paid to do it, but I play whenever I can. Mostly I just jam with a couple of local fellows (Led Zeppelin, Allman Brothers, Hendrix, Tom Petty, White Stripes), and I always play with my siblings, when we can manage to get a family jam together. That's more like once every couple of months, not every second weekend with the other guys. As a family, we played for a friend's 40th Birthday/Wedding Aniversary, but that was a big party at the local Legion. And we did a benefit show for a local girl (who I went to school with as a teenager) who's two month old son (at the time) was going through some major surgeries. That was at Piper's Pub in Antigonish. Lots of fun, but nothing serious. Troy, (my middle big brother), has recently gotten involved with a Player's Circle up in Liscomb, which sounds exactly like a Celidh, by the way he describes it. Every Wednesday, and I'm trying to find a week where I could swing in.

With the guys, it's usually every weekend or two, and every time one of us throws a party. People dancing in the kitchen, passing the instruments to another random partier who can pick their way through whist you socialise. Kings. Music is one of the driving forces in my life, and I'm kind of glad it's not something that I 'have to do', but rather something I feel I want to do.

Camac, if you're tapping your feet and slapping your knee, you're part of the orchestra. A percussionist. wink.gif
