I just saw Casino Royale today, and eventhough I am sick with a bad headache, it was still an amazing movie. Daniel Craig is amazing....there really is just no other way to describe his performance. I thought Eva Green did a good job as the Bond girl, but I have to admit...I ignored her whenever Craig was in the scene.... tongue.gif

May they banish darkness and enlighten you
May female dragons grant you inner power
May the Dragon Queen

May Dragon Spirits

May weather dragons
bring rain at your request
May Ti'amat effect the changes you command
May Ishtar grant you Dragon Power
May Ishtar grant you Dragon Power

That is the second good review I have heard about that movie. Looking forward to seeing it!

So -- go see "Happy Feet." If you have a kid to bring, fine -- if not -- go anyway. It has some slow spots, but it's gorgeous to look at, and the way they use the music in the plot is very concentrated and loads of fun. That's motion capture of Savion Glover dancing the lead penguin -- amazing.

Casino Royale. Not your typical Bond movie, but a refreshing change of pace!

BTW: what is your favorite Bond film?
Mine is "For your eyes only". Although it is a Roger Moore film, I like it because it is pretty much a straight up action/espionage flick. That and Carol Bouquet with Sheena Easton doing the title song... wub.gif wub.gif

Joyeux Noël, about the Christmas truce of 1914. I'll watch just about anything with kilts & bagpipes in it; this one I watched twice (I watch movies for entertainment; I get my history from books), and picked up the theme song "I'm Dreaming of Home" to add to my Christmas bagpipe repertoire.

I can remember a song with Snoopy and the Red Baron sharing a class of wine over that Christmas truce. It was called Christmas Bells and it was on the Snoopy and the Royal Guardsman record I had as a kid. I still have it too.

We've actually got that one on our current Christmas mix; were listening to it yesterday.
I also like John McCutcheon's Christmas in the Trenches;

[/b]My name is Francis Tolliver, I come from Liverpool.
Two years ago the war was waiting for me after school.
To Belgium and to Flanders, to Germany to here
I fought for King and country I love dear.
'Twas Christmas in the trenches, where the frost so bitter hung,
The frozen fields of France were still, no Christmas song was sung
Our families back in England were toasting us that day
Their brave and glorious lads so far away.

I was lying with my messmate on the cold and rocky ground
When across the lines of battle came a most peculiar sound
Says I, "Now listen up, me boys!'' each soldier strained to hear
As one young German voice sang out so clear.
"He's singing bloody well, you know!'' my partner says to me
Soon, one by one, each German voice joined in harmony
The cannons rested silent, the gas clouds rolled no more
As Christmas brought us respite from the war
As soon as they were finished and a reverent pause was spent
"God Rest Ye Merry, Gentlemen'' struck up some lads from Kent
The next they sang was ``Stille Nacht.'' "Tis 'Silent Night','' says I
And in two tongues one song filled up that sky
"There's someone coming toward us!'' the front line sentry cried
All sights were fixed on one lone figure trudging from their side
His truce flag, like a Christmas star, shown on that plain so bright
As he bravely strode unarmed into the night
Soon one by one on either side walked into No Man's Land
With neither gun nor bayonet we met there hand to hand
We shared some secret brandy and we wished each other well
And in a flare-lit soccer game we gave 'em hell
We traded chocolates, cigarettes, and photographs from home
These sons and fathers far away from families of their own
Young Sanders played his squeezebox and they had a violin
This curious and unlikely band of men

Soon daylight stole upon us and France was France once more
With sad farewells we each prepared to settle back to war
But the question haunted every heart that lived that wonderous night
"Whose family have I fixed within my sights?''
'Twas Christmas in the trenches where the frost, so bitter hung
The frozen fields of France were warmed as songs of peace were sung
For the walls they'd kept between us to exact the work of war
Had been crumbled and were gone forevermore

My name is Francis Tolliver, in Liverpool I dwell
Each Christmas come since World War I, I've learned its lessons well
That the ones who call the shots won't be among the dead and lame
And on each end of the rifle we're the same[/b]

Christmas truce 1914

Nearly 150,000 Scottish soldiers died in WWI, nearly one in three, the highest casualty rate of any country involved.

This weekend, I watched Dukes of Hazzard the movie and Pirates of the carribean Dead mans chest., (2nd one). Dukes of hazzard was okay, but I wish they would have got people to play the parts that actually resembled the characters on the show in some way. For example, Burt reynolds was bos hog, but my thoughts were leaning toward danny devito.

pirates of the carribean 2 was okay, but it definitely a lead up to the next one.

That looks to be a great song Emmet, I'll have to go hunting for it. I watched Beerfest today. Okay movie, had some funny parts but it could have been alot funnier. And yes there are kilts but not for very long. And the Irish get beaten by Germany. There was a preview for a "Dukes of Hazzard-the beginning" movie due out next year. New people except for Willie Nelson and Boss Hogg does look abit closer to the tv version.

We don't get out that much, but when "Night At The Museum" is released next Friday (12/22), both my wife and I are going to the matinee!! From the trailers we've seen earlier this year, it looks really good. thumbs_up.gif

And I just saw an online trailer for Harry Potter And The Order Of The Phoenix - due to be released July 13, 2007. Since reading every book, I have been disappointed with the last two movies in the series, since they seem to be straying further away from what Rowlings wrote - however, in saying that, I'll probably still go see the movie! rolleyes.gif

Have a great week, all!

Best cheers! Robbie
