Great Maritime Song!

June1/07..

Critique received for "That Maritime Song" from TAXI - The World Leading Independent A&R Company!
:
Melody:
Good music in verses, Good music in choruses.

Lyric:
Engaging, Cohesive, Communicates emotion to Listener, Vocal does help to sell song.

Overall:
"Flows smoothly from start to finish. Recalls ancient forms of folk music, and is therefore inherently memorable. The soulful vocal performance is one of the most enticing aspects of the whole performance / recording!"

Title:
Seems very appropriate considering the lyrical subject matter.

Overall Comments:
Tom - I'm glad for the opportunity to hear this song. It seems obviously to be rooted in anachronistic forms of folk music, but because of the drums there is also a slight rock or country/rock influence detectable as well.

The vocal really makes the song as far as I'm concerned, and this is partially because of the sincerity of the lyrical sentiment, but mostly because I can tell you're really "feeling it"! In terms of how this song fits into the contemporary music scene, I think it's appeal is limited to those who appreciate archaic forms of folk music or fans of anything to do with the maritime scene of which you speak in the song. Because it has limited appeal does not take away from the power of the music, however, and there are definitely a good number of people who will appreciate what you're doing.
