Jesus said,
"It is written, that man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God. St. Matthew 4:4
"I am the bread of life: he that comes to me shall never hunger; and he that believes on me shall never thirst." St. John 6:35
"I am the way, the truth, and the life." St. John 14:6

I believe there is life in the scriptures. As we read, meditate, and believe by faith the truth in God's Holy Word we can find strength, comfort, and a light to our path. The Psalmist says, "Lord thy word is lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path." St. John the beloved wrote, "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him, and without him (Jesus) was not any thing made that was made. In him was life; and the life was the light of men. And the light shines in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not...And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth." St. John 1

My intention is to post a daily scripture from the Word of God, so that everyone at Kirk and Chapel can read a scripture from God's Word and be strengthen and grow in the knowledge of the Lord. Peace!

Be God's and be blessed,

Oh Lord My God, cover me with the shadow of your wings.
Let Your faithfulness be my shield and rampart.
I will not fear the dread of night, nor the trouble that comes by day.
I will make the Most High my habitation.

"But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this allsurpassing power is from God and not from us. We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed. We always carry around in our body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be revealed in our body." 2 Corinthians 4:7-11 (NASB).

"For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future. Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart." Jeremiah 29:11-13 (NASB).

Verily, verily, I say to you, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. St. John 3:3,5-6 (NKJV)

(Sorry guys, I've dropped the ball here. Here is today's scripture from Psalm 40 one of my favorites)

"I waited patiently for the Lord; and he inclined unto me, and heard my cry. He brought me up also out of an horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings. And he has put a new song in my mouth, even praise unto our God; many will see it, and fear, and shall trust in the Lord" Psalm 40: 1-3 (KJV).

"For he delivered us from the domain of darkness, and transferred us to the kingdom of His beloved Son, in who we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins. And He is the image of the invisible God, the first-born of all creation. For by Him all things were created, both in the heavens and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities---all things have been created by Him and for Him" Colossians 1:13-16 (NASB).

Your very welcome JaneyMae! I just hope it strengthens us and causes us to grow in the love and knowledge of Jesus Christ. Sometimes we are so busy it's hard to sit down and read the Word. But if we can glean just a small truth from the Bible and apply it to ours lives then we will grow. We need to renew our minds daily. smile.gif

In honour of Holy Week I will post Psalm 22: 1-18. This particular Psalm is prophetic in that it is foretelling of Christ's torture, crucifixion, and death almost two thousand years before His birth.

"My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? Why are you so far from helping me, and from the words of my roaring? O my God, I cry in the daytime, but you did not hear me; and in the night season, and am not silent. But you are holy, O Lord that inhabits the praises of Israel...But I am a worm, and no man; a reproach of men, and despised of the people. All they that see me laugh and scorn me: they mock me with their mouths, they shake their heads, saying He trusted on the Lord that he would deliver him: let him deliver him, seeing that he delighted in him. But you are the one who took me out of the womb: you did give me hope upon my mother's breasts. I was cast upon you from the womb: you are my God from my mother's belly.

Be not far from me; for trouble is near; for there is none to help. Many bulls have compassed me: strong bulls of Bashan have surrounded me. They gape at me with their mouths, as a ravening and roaring lion. I am poured out like water, and all my bones are out of joint: my heart is like wax; it is melted deep within my bowels. My strength is dried up like a potsherd; and my tongue cleaves to my jaws; and you have brought me into the dust of death. For dogs have compassed me: the assembly of the wicked have enclosed around me: they pierced my hands and my feet. I can count all my bones: they look and stare at me. They part my garments among them, and cast lots for my coat."

Here is another scripture in honour of Holy Week. Isaiah 53:5. Go and read the whole chapter of Isaiah 53 for yourself and see how it speaks of Christ's suffering and crucifixion. This prophecy will blow you away because it gives so much detail of what Christ exactly went through. I think Psalm 22 and Isaiah 53 are so powerful and give overwhelming evidence of Jesus Christ's torture, death, and ressurection.

"But he was wonded for our transgressions, he was burised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed."

And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and blessed it, and brake it, and gave it to the disciples, and said, "Take, eat; this is my body. And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, "Drink ye all of it; For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins" (Matthew 26:26-28 KJV).

Happy Resurrection Day!!!

"In the end of the sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week, came Mary Magdalene and the other Mary to see the sepulcher. And behold, there was a great earthquake: for the angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from the door, and sat upon it. His countenance was like lightning and his raiment white as snow: And for fear of him the keepers did shake, and became as dead men. And the angel answered and said unto the women, Fear not ye: for I know that ye seek Jesus, which was crucified. He is not here: for He is risen, as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay. And go quickly, and tell his disciples that He is risen from the dead; and, behold, He goes before you into Galilee; there shall you see him: lo, I have told you. And they departed quickly from the sepulcher with fear and great joy; and did run to bring his disciples word. And they went to tell his disciples, behold, Jesus met them, saying, All hail. And they came and held him by the feet, and worshiped him. Then Jesus said unto them, Be not afraid: go tell my brethren that they go into Galilee, and there shall they see me (Matthew 28:1-10 KJV).

"Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity (love), I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal. And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity (love), I am nothing. And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity (love), it profits me nothing. Charity (love) suffers long, and is kind; charity (love) envies not; charity (love) does not flaunt itself, is not puffed up with pride, does not behave itself unseemly, seeks not her own, is not easily provoked, thinks no evil; Rejoices not in iniquity, but rejoices in truth; Bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Charity (love) never fails...And now abides faith, hope, and charity (love), these three; but the greatest of these is charity (love)" (1 Corinthians 13; KJV).

Isaiah 40
31 But those who hope in the LORD
will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles;
they will run and not grow weary,
they will walk and not be faint.

When times get tough and we grow weary, if our hope is in the Lord, he will renew our strength and we will be able to finish the race. Too many times we rely on our own strenght to get us through the tough time and in this we fail. If we would only lay all of our concerns and worries on him life would be so much easier.

Here is another of my favs:

The Armor of God

10Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil's schemes. 12For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. 13Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. 14Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. 18And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints.

I love this set of verses. Because I am a fighter and a warrior for Christ so this really speaks to me. I am stirred deep within my soul.

"Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children; and walk in love just as Christ also loved you, and gave Himself up for us, and offering and a sacrifice to God as a fragrant aroma (Ephesians 5:1,2; NASB).

Remember God is Love---You are Christ's hands, feet, and voice here on this earth. We should be mirrors of God's grace and love to this generation.

I think I posted this scripture earlier, but it bares repeating...

"For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts. Just as the rain comes down, and the snow from heaven, and returns not but waters the earth, and makes it to bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower, and bread to the eater: So shall my word be that goes forth out of my mouth: it shall not return to me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing where I send it." Beauty for Ashes

"Some sat in darkness and in the shadow of death, being bound in affiction and in irons, because they had rebelled against the words of God and spurned the counsel of the Most High." (Psalm 107: 10-11; NIV).

But God provided a way out...

" The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me, because the Lord has anointed me to preach the Gospel of good tidings to the meek, the poor, and afflicted. He has sent me to bind up and heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives and the opening of the prison and the eyes to those who are bound, to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord...To grant to those who mourn to give them an ornament or garland of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning, the garment of praise instead of a heavy burdened, and failing spirit.. (Isaiah 61:1-3)

I want to post this passage from the Bible that I think we as Chrisitans have taken for granted or we have allowed ourselves to become too familar.

Jesus said, "After this manner therefore pray you: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen." (Matthew 6:9-13; KJV)

I challenge all to go and read the whole of chapter 6 of Matthew to understand the context of the prayer pattern Jesus told us to follow. I tried to really mediate on what each line means and it gave me a greater appreciation of the "Our Father" Prayer.

Have a blessed day!

"Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ: By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God. And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also; knowing that tributlation works patience; And patience, experience; and experience, hope: And hope makes us not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Spirit which is given to us" (Romans 5:1-5; KJV).

Psalm 139 is probably my favorite Psalm. It is way too long to post the whole thing, but I'll type a good portion of it. When you have a chance go and read it for yourselves.

"O Lord, Thou hast searched me and known me. Thou dost know when I sit down and when I rise up; Thou dost understand my thoughts from afar. Thou dost scrutinize my path and my lying down, And art intimately acquainted with all my ways. Even before there is a word on my tongue, Behold, O Lord, Thou dost know it all. Thou hast enclosed me behind and before, And laid Thy hand upon me. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; It is too high, I cannot attain to it. Where can I go from Thy Spirit? Or where can I flee from Thy presence? If I ascend to heaven, Thou are there; If I make my bed in Sheol, behold, Thou art there. If I take the wings of the dawn, If I dwell in the remotest part of the sea, Even there Thy hand will lead me, And Thy right hand will lay hold of me. If I say, "Surely the darkness will overwhelm me, And the light around me will be night," Even the darkness is not dark to Thee, And the night is as bright as the day. Darkness and light are alike to Thee. For Thou didst form my inward parts; Thou didst weave me in my mother's womb. I will give thanks to Thee, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Wonderful are Thy works, And my soul knows it very well," (Psalm 139:1-14; NASB).

Have a blessed night and day!!!

I get a daily Scripture reading from Beliefnet.com. Here is the one I got today. It is one of my favorites...

Ecclesiastes 9:11-18

Again I saw that under the sun the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, nor bread to the wise, nor riches to the intelligent, nor favor to the men of skill; but time and chance happen to them all.

For man does not know his time. Like fish which are taken in an evil net, and like birds which are caught in a snare, so the sons of men are snared at an evil time, when it suddenly falls upon them.

I have also seen this example of wisdom under the sun, and it seemed great to me. There was a little city with few men in it; and a great king came against it and besieged it, building great siegeworks against it. But there was found in it a poor wise man, and he by his wisdom delivered the city. Yet no one remembered that poor man.

But I say that wisdom is better than might, though the poor man's wisdom is despised, and his words are not heeded. The words of the wise heard in quiet are better than the shouting of a ruler among fools. Wisdom is better than weapons of war, but one sinner destroys much good.

"The Beatitudes"

And turning His gaze on His disciples, He began to say,
"Blessed are you who are poor, for yours is the kingdom of God.
Blessed are you who hunger now, for you shall be satisfied.
Blessed are you who weep now, for you shall laugh.
Blessed are you when men hate you and ostracize you, and cast insults at you, and spurn your name as evil, for the sake of the Son of Man. Be glad in that day, and leap for joy, for behold, your reward is great in heaven; for in the same way their fathers used to treat the prophets.
But woe to you who are rich, for yu are receiveing you comfort in full.
Woe to you who are wellfed now, for you shall be hungry.
Woe to you who laugh now, for you shall mourn and weep.
Woe to you when all men speak well of you, for in the same way their fathers used to treat the prophets.
But I say to you who hear, love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you.
Whoever hits you on the cheek, offer him the other also; and whoever takes away your coat, do not withhold your shirt from him either.
Give to everyone who asks of you, and whoever takes away what is yours, do not demand it back.
And just as you want people to treat you, treat them in the same way."
(St. Luke 6:20-31; NASB)

There is more I could have written, but you could go and read it for yourselves (which I hope you do). The words of Christ are so powerful, living and timely.

Have a blessed day!

Title: Those Who Wait
Author: Woodrow Kroll
Source: Lessons on Living from Isaiah

Isaiah 40:31
Those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.
Those Who Wait
People in the United States hate to wait. Some define a split second as the time between the traffic light turning green and the person behind you blowing his horn. Fast-food chains have sprung up everywhere because many people don't want to go to restaurants where they have to wait for their food. Grocery stores have express lanes so that those with only a few items will not have to wait long. Patience is certainly a dying virtue in our culture.
God knew that Israel would have to wait a long time for fulfillment of the many promises He gave through the prophet Isaiah. Nearly 150 years would pass before "Cyrus . . . My shepherd" would restore the people from captivity (44:28). It would be more than 700 years before the "people who walked in darkness" would see the light of the Gospel (9:2). And many promises have yet to be fulfilled (11:6-9; 35:1-10).
We may not like to wait, but God attaches a promise to waiting. In patiently trusting Him, He assures us, we will find a new strength. When the right time comes, we will have wings like eagles and supernatural endurance.
Many Christians wear themselves out because they are running ahead of God rather than waiting for His perfect time. If you're prone to do this, let God not only have His will in your life, but also let Him accomplish that will in His time. Use the waiting time as an opportunity to renew your strength and prepare for what lies ahead. Waiting doesn't have to be a drag; it can be a surge.
It's better to be renewed by waiting than ruined by rushing.

This scripture passage is so deep...try and mediate on it throughout the night and the next day.
