If you're not listening to CelticRadio.net, then what are you listening to?

I'm listening to Scott Long's new CD that I won on the forum, In and Out of the Harbour

At the moment I am listening to Avel Dro, Enfin and C'hoazh

Maybe celtica could help me. My favourite track is called Les Parisiens, it's about Parisiens going to Brittany on their hols but I don't know what the lyrics mean.

Of course I'll help you Zéphyr wink.gif

Here's their site Avel Dro

I'll try to translate Les Parisiens for you, I don't speak fluently so excuse me if it's not perfect :

Les Parisiens

Ils nous arrivent par grappes entières
V'la une famille avec le père
Qui s'donne des airs de vieux loup d'mer
Casquette sur l'?il et pipe en terre.

They arrive here in clusters
Here's a family with the father
Who try to look like an old seadog
A cap on the eye and a clay-pipe

Tiens tiens tiens
Voilà les Parisiens
Qui viennent à Paimpol
Pour voir sa falaise
Tiens tiens tiens
Voilà les Parisiens
En jeans et en sabot
Avec le pull marin

Hey, Hey, Hey
Here are the Parisiens
Who come to Paimpol
To see its cliff
Hey, Hey, Hey
Here are the Parisiens
In jeans and clogs
With a marine-sweater

Sont venus pour danser l'Andro
Voici l'Andro des parigots
Ça s'danse comme le french-cancan
On s'tord les doigts en s'gondolant.

They came to dance the Andro
Here's the Andro of the parigots
It can be danced like the french-cancan
Twisting one's fingers, we'll die laughing

Z' ont des couleurs de lavabo
On les parque comme des bestiaux
Dans le camping des " Ajoncs d'or "
Ou il manque plus qu'des miradors.

They have the colour of a washbasin
They are packed like livestock
In the camp of "Golden furze"
Where only miss a mirador

Et ça discute dans les crêperies
- c'est beau mais humide comme pays
- A notre époque dis-donc Gaston
Y en encore qui parlent breton.

And they discuss in the pancakeshops
"it's a beautiful but wet contry"
"when we were young you see Gaston..."
Some of them are still speaking breton.

Une photo sur le dolmen
Agrémentée d'une Bigoudène
Qui leur vendra des p'tits napperons
Et puis des bols avec leur nom.

A picture on the dolmen
Embellished with a Bigoudène
Who will sell them little tablemats
And then some bowls with their names

En souvenir du pays d'Botrel
Ils rapport'ront un p'tit Triskell
Avec un biniou baromètre
Made in Taïwan e Brezhonneg. haut

In memory of Botrel's country
They'll bring back a little Triskell
With a biniou as barometer
Made in Taïwan e Brezhonneg

Andro : a traditionnal dance of brittany
Bigoudène : a girl from south finistère (a department of brittany)
parigot : slang word for parisians
Botrel : a popular bard and poet of the XIX century
e brezhonneg : in breton

smile.gif I hope it helps !

Thank you celtica.

It's just a beautiful song.

I can see why the Bretons laugh at others trying their dances, they look easy until you try them, then you end up falling over your feet and with twisted little fingers as well.

I can dance 4 or 5 but some of the steps are alluding me at the moment, never mind I'll try again in Cornwall and then again when I go to Brittany next year.

Thanks again

Do you come to the Interceltic festival of Lorient next year ? The nation invited will be Ireland. This year it was Acadia.

No we're not going to L'orient. Avel Dro have invited us to a festival about 40kms away, start small and build up.

Geographically the IOM is the centre of the Celtic nations so we get about a bit.

Don't know how much I'll post up here, but I seem to have filled up a page on Celtic Hearts thread, I will have to stop posting so many.

The clock ticking, traffic outside on the city streets, and a variety of birds singing (mostly a Dove and a Blue Jay).

And you thought this thread was only about listening to music. Pshaw. smile.gif

Okay, I'm guilty of bouncing around the net listening to different tunes, so right this minute I'm listening to "No Way Out," a rock song by Tim McGowan on garageband.com...it's a cool song with an interesting intro.
